I would like to see a comparison of shade cloth and plants - what grows best/worse under each percentage
@RetreatfarmFarmvilleVirginia6 ай бұрын
The trouble with shade cloth is the Honesty of the vendors. Especially if the shade cloth is made and distributed from China. I just bought what was advertised as a 40% cloth and when i got it, it was the same as the 70% cloth i bought from them previously. I noticed that on the cover sheet with a picture of the cloth and company logo that the percentage written in the reference box was hand written with a magic marker and was partially crossed out at first then rewritten. On comparison i overlapped the two together and the patterns were identical. So i would suggest buying from a reputable company/vendor only.

Thanks for providing us all with a very useful video and information. I would like to see the difference in temperature from a light/heat source and the various % of shade cloth. Here in Zone 9A the heat and intensity of sun in early afternoon can seriously affect even the most heat tolerant vegetables. My current project is to get shade cloth up to minimize the effects of solar intensity in mid-June through August so plants can stress less and continue to produce a bit longer. The high heat causes blossoms to drop effectively ending production. Shading and reducing the extreme temperatures below solar shading should be helpful. Thanks. This info sure comes at the right time.

Haha oops I just realized this info isn’t a “recent” post. Doh! 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ oh well I’m always a day (or years) late an a dollar short. 😂😂😂😂😂

Any chance you could do the same demonstration with a par or quantum meter instead of lux? I’d be curious to see if the reductions follow the same linear rate. Also I love this commercial just for the soundtrack. It’s very relaxing.

What shade cloth would be ideal for me to use for a canopy, for growing dragon fruit out in the open.? I live in a 10b zone with temperatures rising up from 40 to 45 degrees in the summer. Thank you.

What type of material is this made of? I'm looking for a very durable cloth that can be removed multiple times without damage or severe creasing.

I'd also like to see the correlation between increasing shade cloth and lowering temperature

That was initially part of our test, but unfortunately the day we set it up it was 110 degrees outside with inconsistent sunshine, making it difficult (and very uncomfortable) to establish a control. We're hoping to re-approach the temperature angle in a future test.

Question: Is there any real advantage to using a white shade cloth compared to a black one? I live in zone 9b so it gets really hot here in the summer.
@GreenhousemegastoreIGC7 жыл бұрын
In general, black shade cloth will absorb more heat and can potentially increase the temperature inside a structure. White shade cloth is more reflective, so in that sense, it can help reduce some heat. More than anything though, the denser your shade cloth and the more shade you're able to create, the cooler it will be. Aluminet shade cloth, while more expensive, is probably the ideal covering for particularly hot areas. It diffuses light very well and, especially when paired with air circulation, can drastically reduce the heat inside a greenhouse. This is actually a great idea for a future video topic, so thank you!

what percentage is good for lettuce? since i put 80% net, other lettuce became leggy
@gabrielarcher41433 жыл бұрын
Leggy growth is almost exclusively a problem with not getting enough sunlight. Have you tried anything else since?

The color of the material makes a huge difference.. for example white would diffuse the light more

What shade cloth would be ideal for hydrangeas in full sun?

70%

so the percentages are pretty accurate. Would have been nice to throw a chart up at the end and show ´expected light blocked´ compared to your results. Just doing ballpark math, it seemed pretty much accurate though.
