Blew a fork seal on my '09 Vulcan several years ago. I don't have a garage, and had to do the work in my driveway using the tailgate of my pickup as my work bench. The hardest part of the swap? Finding crush washers, and of course the first fork. After struggling with the first one, the second one was MUCH easier. I did it right because it matters (same reason I do my own brakes on all my vehicles... IT MATTERS)! Loved watching this, Thanks!

I greatly appreciate this!!!!.... Most dealer "techs" learn 1, maybe 2 brands, and just follow along with what changes with new model year debuts.......give em a set of points, and they're lost!!! Don't get me wrong, new bikes are awesome, but I absolutely LOVE the history of the development process, and how we got to where we are today!

@firefighter1c57 3 ай бұрын
Unsolicited tip. Leave the forks in the triple clamps to start. It serves to hold the fork tube so you can get the snap ring out. Once out, bend one tip of that snap ring with a pair of needle nose pliers. This will give you an end to get the hook under from then one to facilitate removal. I do the same with screw on caps, break them loose while they are secure in the tree, then remove them.
@JoeTheMountainJedi
@JoeTheMountainJedi 3 ай бұрын
In the shop, I rarely have to(except for Harley models, where the fork cap also retains the forks into the trees), but then again, in my "normal environment" I've got everything there that I'm used to having available to me, and I have a "dance card" I follow.....good catch on this, and absolutely helpful to folks doing this at home👍

There are things and times in life where you have to put aside your personal plans/intentions and recognize that there are things in this world that are important to point out to people and give a reminder of what got us here as a country. Both of our kids are military veterans now, along with multiple people in our family and lives. It's something that is a point of pride for me as a parent, and also a silent reminder that we ARE truly blessed as a society for the freedoms that we enjoy..... THAT will NEVER be something that is overlooked or discounted in my circle of the world!🫡

@JoeTheMountainJedi

Roadie's(1600/1700, and warriors) all have a appetite for starter solenoids!!!.... I keep a spare in my saddlebags on mine, just in case Personally, I blame it on a solenoid design that was marginally ok for the load it has to handle, and also people letting their batteries get low, and it working the solenoid to death!!! The puny battery cables that Yamaha used don't help much either...(I made a new set out of 4Ga welding lead for BG....just in case)....since I daily BG, my battery doesn't really have a chance to sit much and get low, but ALL the xv bikes I get in the shop with "the click" are from "occasional riders", and I'm betting that most folks don't use a battery maintainer nearly as often as they should!!
@jweav151
@jweav151 3 ай бұрын
@@JoeTheMountainJedi Thank you for responding! That sounds like it might be a different clicking than the Click of Death I've been reading about. Though, with the limited explanations I've found on it, who knows. What I've gathered from other sources is if you change all the running lights to LED (headlight, front turn signals, license plate), it leaves too much energy in the electrical system when you turn the bike off with either the kill or the kickstand switch. Apparently the only place for this energy to discharge is through the decompression solenoid which will cycle and click until the battery dies. I'm by no means an electrical expert but it just doesn't make sense to me that electricity becomes "trapped" like that but also has a closed circuit to drain the battery when the bike is supposed to be turned off.

@@jweav151 brother, I have NEVER ran across THAT!!!.... Where the rust was you can spray with frog lube and rub it in.. use a heat gun to heat it in then buff it off. Should last a year or so
