Hi Shad. Sorry, I'm late to the party here, but 2 things come to mind: First, the draw weight of you'r bow is not the only thing that determines the range. You pretty much got that right at the end: Material and shape determines the energy that can be stored in your bow and how efficiently it is transfered to the arrow. Imagine a diagramm with draw weight on the vertical and drawlength on the horizontal axis. When you draw your bow, you go from 0 to 28 inches or whatever your drawlength is while the force on your fingers goes along some kind of curve from 0 to 70 (or 100) pound. The energy stored in your bow is more or less equivalen to the area under that curve, while your drawweight at full draw is just a point on that curve. Extreme case would be a Compound bow, where the poundage even drops off again at the end of the draw. Also that curve changes between drawing and letting go, cause its a hysteresis loop and your bow looses energy to the 2 law of thermodynamics, but thats by the by. secondly, check the spine value on your Arrows. You shot quite a selection of different arrows from different bows. If the spine does not fit the bow, the fletching hits the bow or your hand. That messes up your accuracy and also eats range. Just in case you didn't think of that already.

Seems like you guys had a boatload of fun! I think the Instant Legolas DOES create more friction, but it suffers much less from archer's paradox. Reasons for this: Shorter bolts flex less than longer arrows, and also the bolts are guided through the slot. A straighter flight will of course result in a longer distance. Maybe your 100 pound bow needs even heavier arrows? I only know about slingshots, but those show the same behaviour. YOu have to finely match the rubber strength and the projectile weight. Each slingshot band set has an ideal projectile weight and will perform poorly with lighter/heavier BBs.

Just so you know, Shad: The one factor that overruled everything else was the ANGLE OF LAUNCH. Shad never shot much higher that about 30-35°, but Asher was raising closer to 40°. That's why his shots went farther with either bow. The best angle is actually 45°. That's higher than you think it is when you are standing there. If you get someone to spot the rise for you, or set up some kind of angle guide, and really shoot up at 45°, you will be impressed with the extra range.
