She's confident and determined to defeat the darkling because she wants vengeance. She got manipulated and so now she is motivated to defeat the darkling. Technically that's what a normal human would do if he/she got wronged and wants to set things right. She realized her big mistake and knowing she's the only one who can destroy the fold and defeat the darkling, of course she'll have to step up her game. At least that's what I know from watching the show regardless of the books. The character developments needs to be clearly shown tho or else it might get bashed for it.

Funny how I couldn't get into Alina in the books for some reason (and forget about Mal), but Jessie and Archie are doing such a fantastic job, I can't help but love their portrayal in the show !

Exactly! I didn't like Alina in the books at all but seeing her in the screen is different. I don't know if it's because of the great actress or the new character development for Alina, but I love her now.

@@lera7679 as a fan of his character from the books Patrick's doing a great job, idk why you're judging him negatively. So far we've seen 1 partial scene and a few clips and there's nothing about it that seems off or badly acted.

Nikolai is my number 1 favourite character in the books and this scene is terrifying to me because Patrick is giving nothing for me, not the charm, charisma or any of the other treats that I love Nikolai as a character for. This is just one scene obviously, but if this is how he plays the character in the other scenes as well I am not a fan.

I do wish we had Sturmhond for the Nikolai reveal but that probably would have looked silly. I also like that Alina is not a prisoner and really taking charge, the show really gives her more agency.

@@jay48765 In the books, Sturmhond is Nikolai’s other identity and has a beard, darker hair and broken nose to disguise himself from others and The Darkling. He reveals his true blonde self later. Haven’t seen any indication the show will go that route

@@rayraysunn994 tbf Alina says that if he helps them he will be rewarded - implying that she doesn't know his true identity. If she did, I think she would have begged him for his help, instead of telling him to. The show might have not included the disguise, but they might still play with the idea that Nikolai is incognito here and only Tolya and Tamar know who he really is.

@@rayraysunn994 They are definitely still going with the two different identities. They’ve talked about it in some of the interviews, and there was also a photo that was leaked. They just aren’t showing Nikolai in the promotional stuff. And there’s no need to change major features considering he did that so the darkling wouldn’t recognize him. They’ve completely removed that part of the plot as seen here.

Especially this season now that she's know Darkling's true ambitions. And how he's using her just for her power. I love the book series as well with Tamar and Zoya being such badass. And also Genya and her whole character development. You're totally right. Show Alina's expressions are just something else. Especially at the end of the S2 trailer. Got chills. They better give us a fantastic fight between Alina and Darkling. Not like the books because what was that 😭😭 (PS: I know they won't since they disbanded that theory during the S1 finale with inej throwing a knife at him and him mocking her move).

I love JML and I wouldn't want anyone else to play Alina but I don't really like the writing they give her. Especially in S1. BookAlina is very passive and insecure in the first book and doesn't do much. They tried to make her feisty and sassy from the get-go, but still kept the plot where she doesn't do much lol. I really like bookAlina's slow progression from being a very meek character to coming into her power. I feel like by making ALina so confident in the show from the start they've taken away a lot of that.

Am I the only one who absolutely loved the books? I loved Alina, Mal, Nikolai, Zoya, General Kirigan and literally everyone in the books. I know the story was bland at some points but I still think Leigh Bardugo did an amazing job with the depth of characters. And I can clearly see that in the show too. Kudos to these actors for giving grishaverse a real effect. Can't wait anymore!!

I am on the third book of the trilogy now and I absolutely love the series. I know so many ppl have issues with Alina, Mal, pacing etc. but I've enjoyed every book thoroughly so far, and I do think the characters are better written than in the show. Granted, the show hasn't had enough time to develop them yet but they've completely changed Mal, Alina and their dynamic. Honestly I would hate it if they change Nikolai even one bit.

I fully believe that the only scenes they've given us of Paddy are him as Sturmhond, not him as Nikolai. We've only ever seen him in the blue coat and the swagger is obvious.

@@tasmiatahia_write_dream_change I love that scene! Even thought Tolya looks a bit different to me. I had him envisioned as a huge huge guy. Even huger than Mathias who only spoke at the right time and boy was it impactful. Also, Tolya and his poetry. XD I was hoping to see the scene with Alina, Tamar, Genya, Nadia and Zoya right after Nikolai proposes to Alina and they're trying out the dresses. I believe that's one of the first scenes where they're truly acting like friends having a laugh. Sort of like a calm before the storm that highlights how the group isn't just fighting for their Sankta anymore, they mean way more than that to her. Darkling might have used fear to keep people close any loyal to him but Alina had no trouble making all of them (including Zoya) her friend. She trusts them more than anything even after one of them supposedly betrayed her and will fight for them just how they're trying to protect her and fight for her. Hopefully the show will feature such scenes and more of Tamar and her axes 😭❤️❤️❤️
