Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew Review - The Final Verdict

Mimimi Games has, by now, established itself as one of the best in the business when it comes to real-time stealth tactics, and with Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, it once again proves why it’s worthy of that praise, just as it did with Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados 3.
Not only does it boast a rich and wonderfully realized pirate fantasy setting (where things are not always what you’d expect them to be), it also delivers a standout stealth and tactics experience, combining excellently designed stealth sandbox maps with a tight and clearly communicated set of rules, an emphasis on experimentation and creativity, and a varied and inventive cast of characters that’s a joy to play as, with no exceptions.
For fans of the genre, this one is an incredibly easy game to recommend.

They have a great winning formula now, i do hope though they change to a new engine in the future and go with a darker theme before it gets stale, its very colorful and beautiful scenery, war setting like ww2 or vietnam we havent seen many tactics game in that setting would be a blast, updated version of commandos with their style and new characters would be a treat

I’ve always struggled to get into the stealth genre because I’m too aggressive 😂 but I have to say, I’m loving this. It’s even allowed me to get into Shadow Tactics too. It’s a shame I’ve only just got into it with the most feature rich/Final entry though, because going backwards through a franchise is never as fun. Hitman next. Someone make me get into that 😩

I landed on this video after getting a notification that the game is on sale for PS5. Then I saw your comment and had to look it up. Like you said, they're shutting down and this will be their final (big) game. I was wondering about patches and updates, but to anyone wondering, they said "While this means that we won’t start production on a new big game, we will continue to fully support Shadow Gambit. We are already working on a patch across all platforms and have a big content drop planned for later this year, which we are sure you will love just as much as we do!"

Hmmm... You say it lets you be very creative and gives you tone of options on how to solve the map "like shadow tactics" and while for then first couple of maps or so I found that it then very quickly ramped up the difficulty and felt much much more like there really was only one solution and I had to try to work out what the revs wanted me to do and, hence, I lost all interest in the game. I'm worried this wil just be the same thing again.... thoughts?

Well a critical difference in that regard is that you can pick the characters you want to take on each mission, making them potentially much more varied.

I don't know what you mean exactly, I hope I didn't misunderstand you, but from what I've played/seen, you can have multiple ways to clear a path, for example you can start from the upper enemies or the lower enemies, you can start from left or right, you can play with different characters and have different approaches, but the objective themselves doesn't change you have to go from A to B, but the path itself is decided by you

Well said, yeah I found with Desperados and the Japan one that it felt like there was just one way to do things and it was trial and error until you found that out.

From my experience off Shadow Tactics on the first few levels where I was totally new to the genre I also thought that taking out all enemies one by one is the only way to complete these levels but as I replayed them to get the achievments/badges , I found so many other ways to complete because the achievements force to think differently like say complete level without killing anyone or don't enter a specific area. That's what made those levels so much more fun especially when you try to speedrun them. I hope this comment to give these games another try with a better perspective
