Shadow🦅 is Back! Jackie & Shadow MATE!🦅❤️7-hour-long Nestoration, Love Nibbles🥰, 8 Sticks🥢& Fiona 🐿️

What an eventful day! Shadow 🦅 comes to the nest with Jackie 🦅 after a few days of absence. Jackie and Shadow bring 8 sticks to the nest and bond over the 7-hour-long Nestoration. There is something wrong with Jackie's right eye. However, she is full of energy and brings huge sticks to the nest. She even bites Shadow's tail and there are lots of love nibbles, too.
The day ends with Jackie and Shadow mating in the Stick Depot Snag.🎉❤️🦅🦅🥰
Fiona the Flying Squirrel comes to the nest to eat fish scraps left by Jackie in the nest the day before.

Shadow is back. There are love nibbles, Jackie pancaking and J & S mating at the end of the eventful day! It's great to see them both on the nest again. They brought 8 large sticks and spent 7 hours bonding over the Nestoration. Jackie keeps her right eye closed but there is no blood, swelling or injury visible and she is able to do everything normally, so let's hope that her eye will be better soon.

@ this nest is a symbol of all the natural cycles of life. During Covid, I lost 2 adult children (it was two years apart) to the fentanyl crisis. Four years ago, and 5 days after it, a hawk came to our yard that abuts deep woods and fields. This was shocking as it was January and it came from nowhere. We named it Tomahawk after my son, Tom. The comfort of this nest and witnessing their loss a year ago made a huge impact in my journey. Jackie and I know not only the feelings of loss and disappointments, but we resonate in our deep resilience and tenacity as mothers.

@@BirdlifeOdyssey that is so awesome. I just adore these beautiful eagles. We have an eagles nest in our subdivision - it's pretty much away from houses and way way up. It was in another spot two years ago and I always worried someone was going to build a house on the lot. Sure enough, someone built next door, but the eagles said, "no way, too close. We're moving." They moved about three lots over where there is no one. I think they are so intelligent. Hoping for little ones or at least one this year. Jackie and Shadow deserve it.

@w.s.9295 No blood, swelling or injury is visible. Jackie has command of the right eyelid and opened it many times to observe her surroundings. All signs at the moment suggest the issue does not impair her activities. I do not know if Bald Eagles develop allergies, but I suppose that they do just like other animals. I think it could be from a stick or a fight with another eagle. It is really hard to say. Nothing was caught on camera, so nobody knows. Let's hope the eye gets better soon.

I don't blame her for not laying eggs this year. It probably was too heartbreaking to constantly lay them year after year only to have something go wrong. Hopefully next year she will try again.

@evonnewhalen9794 Thank you very much for your comment and questions. Welcome to my channel and to the Eagle watchers and lovers family, too. Jackie is 12, Shadow is 10. Yes, Bald Eagles generally mate for life. When one of mates passes away, the remaining one has a new mate. However, it sometimes happens that a new mate appears and wins. Jackie used to have a different mate called Mr B., but Shadow arrived and won Jackie and the nest. Yes, they use the same nest every year. They have another spot in a tree called Stick Depot Snag where they build a protonest in June to strenghten their bond. It sometimes happens that Bald Eagles change their nesting site, but it is not frequent.

I'm concerned for Jackie. With only one eye she'll have no depth perception, therefore her needed precision skills for hunting and maneuvering are affected, compromising her survival... 💔🥺
