Gaius (#3) was definitely the hardest one for me. It took me at least 50 tries to finally beat him in the time limit. After him all of the others were a cake walk. I beat all the others in less than 4 attempts each. But gaius is my mortal enemy for all time

New plan- Forget about his backside and climbing it. Swim straight for the lower part of the pillar. Jump up on it but only to regain his attention by shooting him in the tusk with your bow and arrow. Then jump back into the water keeping the pillar between you and the colossus. He WILL follow until his head is right next to the lower pillar. Simply use the diving board stone to jump across and grab the lower ridge that’s in between his tusks. Shimmy up to his teeth, sword slap them(if needed), and jump across to the top of the pillar. When he goes back under water, don’t go for his backside, just repeat this same process. And underwater DOES swim much faster :)

Woooow this is my seventh time fighting him, already did normal time attack and a regular hard playthrough. I did not know you could steer him. I usually sit on his head for 5 minutes before I arrive where I want to be. My very first time I was on top of there for half an hour

Haven't tested on hard but to maximise your chance of getting him to crouch when on the pedestal instead of walking away, after avoiding his electric attack go to the edge, then immediately retreat, Worked 4 times in a row for me.

No, the ai is just terrible and rigged in time attack mode. This idiot constantly circles the platform more often than actually search the platform for you, in story mode it's vice versa. It doesn't help the fucking game crashes randomly sometimes. I swear, IM HIDING BEHIND THE FUCKING PILLAR, THE FUCKING MORON CIRCLES IT INSTEAD OF FUCKING SEARCHING THE PLATFORM. after your first mount phase, swim around it in the direction of the next platform. the colossus will turn with you so when you get up to its head again it will already be facing in the general direction of the next platform. Just did this on PS4 with 5:31.45 as my time.

First i thought that i would never make it. This fight has some frustrating rng. Worst thing is when you get thrown off his head. No idea what to do against it. The damage from his lightning can be avoided by diving, also it is faster. You need minimum of 3 damage phases to kill him, i don't know why sometimes is a 4. phase needed. With 3 phases i killed him in 5:20. To make him not leaving after his lightning attack on top, i climbed on that small pillar, worked.

There’s actually two ways to reach his head: 1: climb up the back & 2: goad him into looking closer at one of the four small platforms sticking out of a pillar so you can jump up and grab his mask.

Fire an arrow straight away, he wont swim away. Then swim underwater round his back. Climb up. Steer him to the nearest platform. Jump off. Fire and arrow, hide when he shoots shit at you. Fire another arrow, he will immediately jump up at you. Jump and stab his belly - half kill him. Do the same again - should have lots of time left if 3rd try needed

Strange thing happened to me just now. Had a good run, but the third time I jumped on the sigil there was no more health bar of the colossus, so I could not see how much he had left and stabbing him seemed to do no harm. Keep trying, I guess ....

5yrs late to the party here but my trick for getting on his back super quick-fast is to swim right up against him underwater. That way when he turns, you'll often get stuck on his "sticky-outy" bits and get taken with him as he turns so you don't end up in a frustratingly slow race with him turning and barely keeping pace. Hope it helps anyone else who's replaying this masterpiece of a game for the umpteenth time 😂

My problem with this fight is that I am doing piddly damage, even with a fully-charged stab. I'm doing everything that you are during the battle (albeit with better execution, no offense), but the damage output of the sword in hard mode is frustratingly low. Swimming underwater helps, and crouching to hold on does, too, but I just can't do the DPS needed to win. EDIT: Literally an hour after I posted this, I went back and beat him (9:28.09, less than 2 seconds to spare). The key to victory was mounting his head from the lower platforms of the double-decker islands; swimming around the back of him just takes too much time in hard mode. Off to fight the last one (#3, Gaius)...

The secret to Malus is that he stops shaking his head when his left shoulder is stabbed or shot, so you can hit it and then get some stabs in.

This boss has an insane amount of RNG: had 2 good turns over half dead, he goes underwater and he just swam away, slightly faster than I can move underwater, for the rest of the entire fight. So fucking stupid

I like this fight quite a bit to be honest. It's possibly my favorite arena and I love the design of the colossus. It is a bit dull, however. My least favorite is definitely Kuromori.

Ill recommemd you go and see the best times ever done nomad colossus video in ps2 its incredibly helpfull and also a hard speedrun from this 2018 version, that will help you, some speedrun strategies are very helpful and not that hard to pull of, mostly in time attack as you can go and retry at any time.

Phalanx is very hard unless you are lucky/ skilled with shooting out his airbags with your bow. On my successful hard mode time attack run, I got the best luck ever with my shots. The best thing that I can recommend is to shoot them as he is rising out of the ground, and to try and hit multiple sigils in the same round; as soon as the sigil that you're stabbing glows brightly, get up and run/jump down his back to the next one before his flaps close.

I never really liked this guy, just felt... lame The remake made him somewhat more fun, but not enough, and his vital spot glitched out a few times by fading away when I was still on it, making me waste more time searching for an alternate vital when really the game just bugged out Now Hydrus’s metal head bang glitch is freaking funny and awesome, even during his hard time attack, mainly cause he’s not too difficult in hard mode time attack, just makes you gotta restart a FEW times, for me like 2 or 3 When I say metal head bang I mean he becomes a fan of heavy metal music and acts like he’s listening to it whenever Wander gets close to his head once the spikes lose their power, even though it cost me 20 more seconds than required to beat him, I didn’t mind, it was just freaking hilarious

If you use the jump stab he is much easier, since you get a fully charged attack in the small window when he stands still. Since I started doing that he's become one of my favorites, whereas I didn't like him much either before that

I agree with you, one hit and Wander takes over 8 seconds to get up (yes I timed his slow ass) and you get hit before he can fully stand up unless you get lucky and the Colossus pushes you into some kinda crack or off a ledge giving you enough time. Once you know where to go you can do the entire fight without him ever touching you, standing on or behind things he can't get around, but the first time I fought him I died 4-5 times to being stun-locked because I wasn't fast enough to climb something or my camera derped and I couldn't see where he was so he jumped me by surprise. Although after doing the Hard Time Attacks I've found new gripes with some bosses I never had, because you rely so much more on the AI doing what you want and it's frustrating as hell when it doesn't.

This is literally impossible. I can only get him to half health by the time limit. All he does is swim away and no matter how hard I try wander simply won't grab the grass on his back even if I'm touching. All because the stupid colosi is swimming. And he doesn't jump up on the towers either. I hide behind the pillar and the he starts swimming away again. This is all I need for platinum and I can't do it.

Beat him in 5:30 HTA... Tbh, he is one of the smoothest and easiest for me, every time no matter the difficulty. And i honestly love this fight, no idea why so many hate it. I fucking hate Gaius (3rd one) with passion! So glad i'm done with him on hard and normal time attack and the wrist trophy. And also Celosia for being a fucking unfair jackass... once he has you, you are not leaving the floor until he mops it clean using you. Now only last 4 left for me, only the last one will be tough for me.

God I hate this fight. It's basically hope the AI cooperates with you. It's probably the worst fight in the game. The player doesn't have any control. It takes me 3 minutes just to get to the first weak point. He just doesn't want to cooperate.

DannyJ completely agree. I can't put my finger on it but i strongly believe bluepoint made the AI dumber than it normally is i had a flawless run, one more stab to finish it off and the colossi wouldn't mount the pillar. I wasted two mins and all the arrows fired in LoTR and Hobbit trilogy trying to get his attention again because he was walking off. Absolutely frustrating

DannyJ you have to have the items in one set meaning on one game file. What i did was beat the game on hard loaded my save file, completed normal time attack then started new game + hard which carried everything over to hard.
