Shadow of the Colossus - Secret Garden

To mark the occasion of my 100th video, I thought it worth doing something a little bit different.

I have never in my day seen a game so ripe for secrets, contain a secret that requires hours of dedication and exploration; yet be so unrewarding.

I remember when my ex finally reached the secret garden. We were both really shocked when we realised the fruit had sapped him every time he ate it. Despite that though, it was worth all of the work to get to see it in such good clarity. The garden is gorgeous though you do have to make sure not to fall through the hole Dormin talks to you through. It's a long fall too...

This was scalable in the demo of the game, too, with the only difference being you had to glitch your way up (something they fixed in final release). Once you were up top, there was a strange character model of a headless woman waiting in the standard "T" formation.

I remember playing this game all day and not stopping. This was a good game. It's not the cliche 'We all live happily ever after', which is a nice change, a heart-wrenching change. I had good memories with this game, like how I was stuck on that one underwater colossus because I thought we weren't supposed to go in the water. Then my friend comes along and beats it for me.

Amazing. Thanks for doing all that work for me. I just wanted to see what it was like, but after seeing it, it dont think i will try it myself. Shame its not more to do up there, or that you cant go higher. Imagine creating that garden, knowing that so few will acually bother reaching it.

Made it! It took approx. 5 - 6 minutes. When I started, my grip status was full, but nowhere near as big as seen here. Still had enough grip when I reached the top to not trigger beeping. I jumped incorrectly to reach that lower ledge but wound up landing right next to it. Dumb luck! (Occured at approx. 2:50 in this person's video.) Don't let the grip 'pulse' (the expanding white dot) max out. Jump just before it maxxes and not until Wanders arm is swung out.

1. Beat the game many times, not just once. 2. For more health, look for large trees with moss growing on them. These trees have fruit in them that you must shoot down with arrows. The more you eat, the longer your health grows. 3. For more stamina, search around the save shrines for lizards with while tails. These require a little strategy to catch, but when you kill them(with sword or arrows) their tails will drop. The more you eat, the larger your stamina gets. Hope this helps. :3

I remember when I first got up to the top of the castle, went up the stairs, and made it to the garden. I spent five minutes there before I realized that that was all it was. Boy was that a disappointment.

The quickest way to mount Basara is to ride up to his back leg and jump off Agro onto it. When he stops moving, go to the very back of his shell and saunter on up to his head. I do it that way for time trail all the time. It works, though you may have to practice timing the jump. :3

It´s said in many threads that u need to play it about 4 times (PAL-VERSION) to get enough stamina for climbing up to TSG!!! But you can also increase your stamina by collecting geckos with white tails!They´re often found next to save-temples!So i needed "only" 2 and a half walkthroughs to get cope with that garden!! ^^

@TheBreadBoxer That's pretty good. My sister was obsessed with the time trials and what not. I think it's easier to eat the fruit and the white lizard tails, but that's only because certain colossus are a lot harder to kill than others.

the end of the bridge is the entrance. if u watch the intro of the game, ull c Wander and his horse goin thru it to get to that land. if u climb it and try to go out, it wont let u. a strong wind will keep pushing u back

Instead of climbing up the walls, use diagonal jumping. Not only do you progress, but it saves a surprising amount of stamina in the process. Also, ride around the land hunting down as many of the white tailed lizards as you can to max out your stamina meter.

the trick is to ride in front of him on agro, then when he peeks his head out of the sand, lock onto him with your bow, then fire an arrow into his eye. he'll become blinded, then slam into the wall

Maybe.. When you're up there, if you go up one of the set of stairs there are these large blocks piled on top of each other, but you can't get high enough to jump over to the stairs that are broken off from the rest.

Climb side to side, when your still it won't reduce, when you charge up to jump it does it alittle bit but hardly. Also when you jump side to side it also doesn't take any away.

you can do this with around ten tails if you're smart. diagonal jumps up and right will deplete minimum stamina if you want to get here early.

you dont need as much grip as he has to make it to the secret garden. there is a certain bush that hides a place to crouch and regain your strength on the way up the wall. i can't remember exactly which bush it is, however gamefaqs or another strategy site should have an entry regarding it. I believe it is on one of the ornate ledges that you shimmy across.

Last time I played I started my way up there and after a good amount of time and toil, I got pretty far up there up. Somewhere near the end though, I had to come to the sad realization that I wouldn't quite be able to hold on long enough to get there... yeah, that's why i haven't played in a while.

YOU DON'T NEED LARGE STAMINA TO GET UP THERE! If you look at 2:26, there's a bush. You can climb up there as long as you hold R1, and regain all the stamina you lost, giving you enough to get up there with even a small stamina circle!

@Xephrocrsith Shadows of Colossus, Ico and Last Guardian are all linked. The end of SOTC's with the baby with the horns, is the same as the kid in Ico (Don't know if its the same character but its made clear they're linked).

Looks like he collected all the silver tailed lizard as to why his stamina and health is so many. And also i think in order to reach this you must in fact collect all the tails because there is no resting points.

There was apparently a glitch where jumping diagonally didnt use any stamina but it was fixed in later releases or something. PAL at the very least doesn't have it.

@televition56 sometimes if you go back to any save shrine after killing a first lizard, a second one will appear. you can also look around the world map since white tailed lizards are scattered all over the area. Plus, killing the colossi gives you stamina

@HarvGod At the end of the game, the door inside the tower is opened, and since the long as bridge is destroyed they just walk up there hoping for the best and that's what they get.

@Zombieguy441 There are connections between Ico and SotC. At the end, Wander has horns like the boy in Ico. There's the Queen's Sword, which you get in SotC and is the exact sword from Ico. There's Ico Beach. There really aren't many links to Ico in SotC.

Cuz it totally kills your total health little by little, and unless you eat the fruit outside the castle you won't be able to get it back to the way it was before you ate it.

You have to go around and shoot down the fruits that are in the trees and eat them . Also there are little lizards running around with white tails. Killing them and picking up the tails makes your health bar grow. Or its the other way around. Lizards for stamina, fruit for health. I cant remember.

you can encrse your stamina by kiling the black lizards on the map but only the one with wite tail increse your stamina,shoot them with your bow. good luck ,you'll find the withe tail lizards at every altar wrere you can save the game(that tower like spreded across the map where you hold circle at the dor to save)

@TeamReptileStudios you have to chase the buggers and either shoot them with your bow or slice them with your sword. when they die you pick them up with the circle button for a miniscule amount of grab!

Theres a spiral ramp thingy that leads from the pool where they find baby wander which leads to the garden. but it is closed when you play the game

Awesome. Nice to finally have a guide on how to get up there, AND this dispells the rumors that it's impossible. I've heard rumors of a 17th colossus up there, though. Are they just ridiculous stupidity or is there actually another one up there?

lol after like three years I finally decided to go up there and see what was the fuss all about. Pity there's not much to do besides fight temptation to eat the fruit and wasting like a lifetime to cross the friggin bridge and stare down at a faithfull Agro as he helplessly tries to get to you.

I did it after 7 walkthoughs in 20 hours and ate all fruits and my HP incerased a lot, also i walked all the bridge across the land it took like 10 minutes without not stopping, and in the end the door to get outside the land didnt let me get thru because a strong wind prevents me to do it.

@tortuga320 If you mean "How is your Stamina bar so big?" then that's an easy one, just go to those small temple thingys where you can save, somewhere on the walls of that small temple are lizards with a white/silver tail, kill the lizard, & eat the tail, & you're stamina bar gets bigger.

@matteste theres a apparently a really really hard glitch which you can't do intentionally where you can fight i think the 5 collsi that where taken out of the game one is a massive spider thing like in war of the world, another is a dragon, one is another small beast thing, and i shit can't remember the other 2 but they looked really good

The items like the better swords like that are earned in the time attack mode(you must complete shadow of the collossus on easy, then you can access easy time attack and you must complete the game on hard to unlock hard time attack for the other items) GOOD LUCK!

I actually think it's beautiful that the fruit reduces your hp. I see it as a sort of '' adam and eve's '' garden, so the fruit he eats is like the apple adam ate; a forbidden fruit, never to be eaten by men. That's how I see it at least :D

@MochiccinoWuvsCoffee: It's quicker to kill all the Colossi than to hunt down all the lizards and it's got the same benefits since you can reload your game. The only time lizards come in handy is if you have really low stamina in the early part of the game but it's still quicker for me to kill a Colossus.

i think this place is supposed to resemble the garden of eden and the tree has the forbidden fruit and when you eat it you lose all of your stamina and health.

ADDITION: by fighting colossi in "time Attack Mode" you can win a "gecko-detection -Stone" helping you to find those critters ^^

Watch the trailer of the last guardian, at the beginning of the trailer where there is a feather falling in the secret garden, the place is very similar, I believe that this bird was created in the secret garden, this is the secret of the secret garden he served to create the bird that appears in the trailer of the last guardian!

before the last colossus you need to climb to the garden eath all the fruit then you will have not much life then kill the last collosus and when you are a collosus yourself at the end you can be killed by the arrows then you will have an alternate ending

you have to beat the game 4 times to get your grab big enough to get up there. its not zoomed, he just beat the game 4 times
