more messmer details because i am a hard messmer stan, messmer’s visions actually came true. he, or his fire, is used to burn a tree, the sealing tree. i’m also willing to bet he commanded romina to plant the bud and grew that tree after sparing her (which is why she’s guarding it). whether or not he also burned the erdtree as depicted in rykard’s nft art is unproven. messmer is born with fire. fire gives off heat. snakes, as cold blooded animals, love heat. letting the base serpent infest him to feed away his fire helps both of them. messmer’s serpent worms inside of him and comes out at his chest. messmer is himself impaled by a serpent. this shows the winged serpent needs to enter his body to suppress the base serpent, as the winged serpent is literally inside of him (you can see this better in the phase 2 model showcases). he’s not keeping the red one as a pet, but to keep the abyssal serpent at bay, as well as being his seeing eye snake. the winged one has 2 heads, covering both his front and his blindspot. very clever. his phase 2 can summon 2 snake heads that attack in tandem (tark showed this in the video), as well as a 3rd blind snake head, which is probably him, as this snake only has an empty eye socket but also performs messmer’s orb. messmer is a snake himself, or at least that’s my theory. think about it, rykard let a serpent eat him, and turned into a serpent. messmer let the abyssal serpent rent inside of him, so is it farfetched to think that he has also become a serpent? the prosthetic eye marika seal acts as the lid for the abyssal serpent, and is probably what inspired the creation of the scarseal and soreseal. if you read the item description of those items, they perfectly describe messmer’s story. messmer’s theme has similar motifs to radagon’s because radagon is his daddy. their movesets are also kind of similar, as radagon also throws javelins and stakes pikes to the ground. before wielding big hammer, radagon probably fought similarly to messmer, and that’s probably how messmer learned to fight, just like how other legends had a master to learn from. godrick uses an axe as he’s a godfrey fanboy, malenia learned her swordsmanship from the blind swordsman, and messmer probably learned his spearmanship from his dad. also, just my theory, but from messmer’s reliance on smithscript weapons, and radagon’s role in the reforging of the elden ring, led me to think that radagon was a smithscript smith before becoming marika’s lord and is consumed by her at the gate of divinity or something. maybe that’s what the seduction was. messmer, as a vlad the impaler reference, has a bunch of vampire motifs. he lives in the dark (also cus of blind), has a bunch of bat statues on the specimen storage ceiling (unique to this area only), and the wings on his helmet and snake are probably bat wings. messmer teaches his skills to his soldiers, which is how his fire knights can wield his fire and his foot soldiers can perform repeating thrusts like he can. also not everyone can receive and wield his flame iirc. you can remove the hair from messmer’s helmet when you wear it. does this mean messmer is bald, and was wearing a wig all along? probably not, but amusing to think about. and finally, i believe that messmer was sent in before godwyn died and the shattering war began, but after godfrey became elden lord, more specifically, before radagon left rennala. this is because 1, he doesn’t have a great rune and is still waiting for his mom to pick him up, not knowing she’s been sealed in the erdtree (which is shown through one of his soldiers in castle ensis), 2, he knows what tarnished are and has a knight hunting them down, and 3, rennala was sober enough to send rellana a parting gift, and she only became senile and passive after radagon left her. i was confused as to why the church district was flooded, and believe that i have the answer: the shadow keep was built on a dam. messmer built the church district at the lowest level and probably got too depressed to drain the water. a lot of rivers also seem to flow from here or converge upon it. idk much about geography. as a final note, and this is my personal interpretation, but since messmer has the abyssal serpent inside of him, which is a sinful creature, and no eyes capable of seeing grace, he’s also devoid of light. the thing is, i think the reason he refuses to accept a lightless lord is because he realized he could be that “lord devoid of light” all along and be the one that his mother needs, but apparently, he thought, that his mother still didn’t want him and chose an outsider instead. messmer is sad 😢

I like this comment and will continue. Messmer's armour is "black", however upon closer inspection (Bonfire VN) we can see it has golden/copper highlights, with the corners most used being the most polished and bright. I believe this to be copper. Red tinged hold is the symbol of the crucible, which is likely copper and a nod to the Bronze Age, the first metal used in complex tool use. This also aligns with Messmer's blasphemous associations, such as claws, serpents, wings and fire. Also from Bonfire VN we can see in his 2nd phase the serpents are white and discoloured with a crusty appearance. This is actually the effect of molting, as the air enters the layers of skin, and suggests the idea of change -shedding a past self, which Messmer does, as he sheds his human appearance. As such he loses human traits, like warm blood, which leaves him with purplish skin.Bronze is very hardy, however exposure to the air leads it to tarnish, taking on a black appearance.Furthermore, his serpent(s) pass through his lungs(chest) in the front, affecting his lungs, and one of them comes out through the middle of his back, implying it passed through his hearts the serpents and Messmer share one heart and one breath, which is why it could have never been removed. Vlad the Impaler employed scortched earth, which entails burning forests and poisoning wells to starve enemies at the expense of his own nation's wellbeing; genocide at any cost, which Messmer does.

My theory is that Radahn actually agreed to be Miquella's consort on some placate-your-little-brother sht. "Radahn, Ima become a god, and everyone is gonna be nice to each other and have ice cream all the time. You'll be my consort, then. Right?" Or, beating Radahn in battle was just part of the vow. You'll note nobody in the game actually says anything bad about Malenia or Miquella regarding the battle of Aeonia, not redmanes like Jerren or Freyja, not their allies like Blaidd and Iji, not outside observers like Alexander. It's presented to the PLAYER as some horrific disaster but... maybe the war obsessed people of caelid just thought it was rad.

So basically you travel to the Realm of Shadow looking for a pharmacist who can fill your prescription for Oxycontin, because the Sackler family spent millions of dollars to promote the idea that pain is as much of a vital sign as pulse rate, and to promote the idea that doctors who don't prescribe enough of their opioids should lose their licenses for ignoring a vital sign. Unfortunately, St. Trina is an incompetent pharmacist and gave you carfentanil instead, and once you take it there isn't enough Narcan in the world to save your life. This is canon, it's in the lore.

One small, but really important detail, that we learn by proxy from the DLC is that the Elden Ring isn't actually a means for the Greater Will to control anyone. It literally just left a reality controlling magic doodad in The Lands Between and moved on. It had no real goal other than "The Elden Ring will bring order". What kind of order? Doesn't matter, just order is enough. Everything else beyond that is likely a manipulation by its faildaughter Metir.

@@CPU9incarnate The three fingers basically tells us that the "greater will" made a mistake when envisioning order, though doesn't tell us what mistake that was. I don't think the three fingers are lying, I think they are merely clear on what to DO about the mistake. To cleanse it entirely. (Basically, they despair of any real hope of change.) My guess is that because the frenzied flame questline revolves around dissolving order and going back to a chaotic state of primal soup, the mistake exists within the act of creating hierarchy, the essential component of all order, whether in the real world or in this game. Hierarchy is created through power, and through division, both of resources and of said power itself. The moment the ruled BECOME the resources is when power exists for it's own purpose, and the hierarchy is enforced for no other reason than for the hierarchy to be enforced, a self-perpetuating and pointless cycle. Within Elden Ring's universe's logic, the act of division is a LITERAL act of division, with the primal state of being called the crucible eventually splitting off into multiple states of being and presumably maintaining this act of division until a world order is created to stabilize it. The golden order, in this case. "Civilization" moving away from the worship of horns might be Marika propaganda, but it might also just be a natural effect of this perpetual dividing. Eventually, horns become a rarity, because division moves further and further away from the crucible's primal state, with it becoming so rare it is perceived as a blessing. (My take here is that the hornsent are NOT right to worship the crucible or the horns. They are mistaking origin for benevolence and make others pay the price for it in the form of turning people into "saints") So what is the mistake by the greater will? Perhaps the greater will envisioned a Utopia, born of hierarchy, sort of like Plato's state being a self-perpetuating state of goodness through the rule of the philosophers, for everybody's benefit and universally recognized as such, or of course, in Thomas More's "Utopia" itself, wherein the best hierarchy imaginable (a communist one, plainly, to anybody familiar with the text, even if More could not have used the term "communism" yet.) is universally recognized by it's people to be the best one (so democratically seen as superior to all others.) This Utopia, however, left behind by the greater will, creates division, but not stability in utopia, which is what all utopias strive towards. Instead, the greater will made the logical fallacy of thinking division is ENOUGH to create hierarchy and thereby utopia. Anybody who has played the game, or really, anybody familiar with how real world civilizations are ordered and have been ordered, would know very well that merely creating order through hierarchy is NOT enough to ensure utopia, or even a decent society to live in. Orders can be cruel, corrupt, oppressive, totalitarian, authoritarian, limiting personal freedoms for petty political power and creating wars and unneccesary conflicts for meagre territorial or financial gain of the few at the top of the hierarchy. It can be a source of infinite strife and misery. The act of division was never enough. Wisdom, correct use of power and guidance is what is neccesary, or convertly, in the case of Ranni's ending, complete freedom through guidance, but not power from above. (Ranni is essentially the most "liberal" empyrean, wishing for the guidance of the moon, but not it's dominion, as was the case with the erdtree and the golden order. The moon is a more gentle, less order-obsessed outer god.) I also disagree with your statement that the greater will isn't an outer god. All gods are by definition "outer" before they land on a world, at least in my view. The crucible was the primordial state of being for the world in which elden ring takes place, but not for all other worlds out there. The greater will left behind a seed, the elden ring, which created the crucible, and eventually the erdtree (this, at least, is my take, maybe I'm wrong.) as a symbol of order, with the tree as the source of golden hierarchy. Not everybody agreed, shit turned sour, other outer gods got involved like the fire giant's big eye thing, the world-devouring serpent, the stars, the moon, etc...and what was supposed to be an age of eternal happiness from the mind and vision of the greater will turned into an endless war, with Marika as the HAPPY perpetrator of it. First as a war against the legions of the outer gods themselves, next as a war against the crucible and it's manifestations, and last as a war amongst the legions of the golden order sympathizers themselves, incapable of themselves finding a PROPER order. (Note that NONE of the empyreans and shardbearers other than Ranni wished for the world to become better for it's people. Not Radahn (hopelessly glorified by the absolutely clueless fanbase), obsessed with warfare, not Marika, a vengeful and malicious god, not Malenia who only knew loyalty and could not bring anything other than rot, Miquella maybe but only in a perverse, forced way, not Rykard who was obsessed with destruction, not rule, not Morgott who was a simp, a sycophant, a dogmatic zealout, not a caring king, not anybody. All showed the PROBLEM with a hierarchy born of division but no plan.) Of course, the three fingers are wrong too. Solving the problem by DISSOLVING EVERYTHING is a non-solution (A bit of poetic irony there, if you can catch it.) It doesn't solve the greater will's eternal plan of creation, division and dissappearance. It confirms why the greater will no longer communicates with the fingers (if it ever did), it's purpose was fullfilled, it created order and promoted division and discord. Once the discord was over through sheer force of conquest on the part of the player, it COULDN'T do anything anymore. It doesn't have a plan beyond "create hierarchy". Well, the tree can only burn through primal sin, forbidden by said hierarchy. So the tree is eternal (in theory, if primal sin is never enacted) and so hierarchy can not be dissolved. The greater will's will has been enacted. Their guidance non-existent, their plan an utter failure from the moment it was formed. But dissolving back into a primal state of being does nothing except eliminate what WAS good about said order. It's a mere rebellion against the greater will's vision for THIS world, even if it doesn't do anything for other worlds. It brings about nothing, in the most literal sense possible. Again, I stand by the idea that the ONLY way out of the darkness is through a replacement of the golden order by a better one, Ranni's for instance (bad english translations make it seem as if Ranni wishes for cold and misery, during her ending scene, in reality, she doesn't, she simply wishes for gentle guidance.) or through goldmask's intervention, if indeed he does anything of note. "Gods are no better than fickle men, indeed, that is the fly in the ointment" (paraphrase, I will admit, not a quote) does not merely apply to marika, it applies to the greater will. The greater will is like a pollinating flower, not neccesarily "disinterested", but also not involved in the slightest beyond creating division from the crucible state. It wants order, that's it. If goldmask can fix THAT through a better rune, then that's great. The game really doesn't clarify what his improvement would be. I would assume it would end the endless division, which likely creates the hornsent/omens, creates a parasitic relationship between erdtree and sacrifices, creates the blight of death as a side-effect of it being cast out of the rune, creates holes within the bodies of newborns in which outer gods can parasitically dwell, such as the serpent did for messmer, and the giant eye did for the giants, etc... Eternal division really IS the problem here. With it, I guess myazaki wants to tell us one thing: come together as one, united, but free, do so by your own will, not through the force of an authoritarian regime, strong but not rigid, free, but not weakened, Hierarchical but not pointlessly power-centered. Create utopia. OR maybe I'm reading FAR too much into this. In any case, that's all part of the lore theorizing for these games. Correct or incorrect, it really is part of the "gameplay", in a sense. We're having fun with all this, and that's what matters. I will gladly admit to being wrong about the details however, if anybody were to give me evidence for that. Politely, of course.

Firstly, miq never woke up to speak to him post capture, secondly ansbach fought him and got rekt, which mohg would never have allowed. Radahns promise is something miyazaki put in to confuse people. Nobody knows if he agreed, as you said, why would he bother with fighting malenia if he already agreed? He also asked jerren to give him a proper death, which is something freyja knew about, and is wanting radahn revived for her own selfish reason. As for when Ansbach would have attacked Miquella, he probably did so when Miquella was in the cocoon, explaining why it's torn open. In light of the DLC, Miquella's raised arm in the cocoon is reminiscent of his raised arm at the end of the Phase 2 cutscene and when he uses Light of Miquella. As such, Miquella might have outright awoken for long enough to charm Ansbach with an incantation. Heck, considering that Miquella's physical body seems to be dead while his soul is still alive (per Elden Ring's handling of body and soul), Ansbach might have actually killed Miquella's physical form. Also, since Ansbach is the leader of the Pureblood Knights, he might have had the authority to approach Miquella at the time, or knew how to sneak close. Perhaps Mohg was only made ultra-defensive by Miquella after Miquella's injury.

I think that Miquella was telling everybody the truth. He made certain promises to people like Mohg, that he'd be his consort, but the means to the ends are irrelevant to Miquella. Once he takes over as a god he can simply charm everybody to live through compassion. He would have done what he promised and his age of compassion would come true. But only through deceit, backstabbing and polite tyranny. He also totally was just going to abandon Malenia, I believe. Or at most come back to her once he gained his godhood and attempt to "cure" her.
@CPU9incarnate

Miquella never promised to give anything to Mohg. In fact he never once even spoke to Mohg in his entire life. He helped Malenia as best as he could with what he had at hand and it wasn't enough. Once he attained full divinity, we have no reason to believe that expunging the rot entirely would be impossible.

So Marika didn’t give the Abyssal Serpent to Messmer, he like his other pure blood siblings Melania and Miquella, was born cursed. They are either Born with an affliction or it’s a part of them and the dual aspects or nature to the powers they each represent and symbolize. Marika, in fear of the Abyssal Serpent and Fire inside him, in fear of the growing power, Sealed the Serpent within His body. Bound it and limited it, anchored its ability to move and act. She did this by plucking out his eye, and laying a seal of Grace on a glass false eye and implanting that in her son’s empty socket. All of the Demi-gods, but especially the 4 children who were born of both Marika and Radagon, Melina and Messmer, Melania and Miquella, they all have powers that are doubled edge swords. And, even more so, are aspects of an Outer God or Entities. Melania and the God of Rot, Messmer and the Abyssal Serpent, Miquella and the Greater Will, and Melina and the Gloam Eyed Queen. I say Miquella and the Greater Will, as He seems to be the direct Heir to Marika. And as shown by the Envoys in Haligtree, and the fact He actually succeeded in Ascending to Godhood. As well as his ability to Subvert the Will of others with his own greater willpower and charm. But each of their powers and aspects had both positive and negative attributes. Or are aspects that became twisted and tainted to extremes. Miquellas’ enteral youth and vitality, Melanias’ constant growth and abundance, Messmers’ eternal ambition and passion, and Melinas dogged resolve and divine judgment. Finally, I truly do not think the Greater Will is the same as an Outer God. It’s more similar to the concept of the Holy Spirit in Christianity and Monotheistic religions. Or it’s more accurate to say that it’s the left over Mind/Soul of the original State of all things before the creation of the in game Universe. The God of that Unified Oneness. Or what was left over after it was ruptured and divided. And I think the Outer Gods are all now the sentient and independent aspects of that Oneness. Representing and embodying the powers and aspects they symbolize. I also would like to point out that the Great Runes and the aspects of laws they represent not only mirror the Demigods who wield them, but some of them also represent or signify an Outer God or an aspect of their power and what they each represent. Like Melania and The Rot God and the Rune of Abundance, coinciding with their natures and powers. But from what I remember the Greater Will is never called an Outer God. The Lore only Implies that It and the Influence of the Outer Gods can both be Blocked by the Mirror-helms. That their mechanism of influencing the World and people is similar. And if anything the Greater Will is like Zeus to the Greek Gods. It is the Top power, the Godking. Similar to but beyond an outer god.

Just chiming in briefly -- the GEQ isn't an outer god, just an Empyrean, and we don't quite know what the abyssal serpent's deal is. Also, if Miquella was aligned with the Greater Will, his curse wouldn't really make sense considering Marika's lack of a curse. Additionally, the Envoys at the Haligtree might actually be there for Malenia, since she can (and arguably does) become a Goddess of Rot.
@Thedeepesttruth
@Thedeepesttruth 3 ай бұрын
@@nightscout9979 true in many ways. That’s why I said they represent outer gods or entities. GEQ while an Empyrean could be called a god or be an entity. Like how the God Devouring Serpent seems to be a mix of a God and an entity. There is no more that says whether it’s an out god or the representative of one. But it’s implies that only those who are divine or of the divine can kill another God or devour them. Same as the God skin apostles and the God hunt. These aren’t normal humans or tarnished. And really it’s never stated that Melina is or has a connection to the GEQ. The only point of speculation is the ending of the frenzied flame when she changes looks and her other eye opens while she losses the gold of grace. And the fact she states she can deliver Destined Death. Which is something only the GEQ, the Godskins, or the one wielding the rune of death could do. Much of all of what I state is opinion and speculation. Subject to change and adaptation. But I stand by what I said and the general point I made. The Greater Will is not the same as the Other Outer Gods for many reasons. Either because of power level and hierarchy or it’s Nature itself. And that Marikas children all either represent and are paired with an Outer God, and aspect or power of an outer god, or a being of power, and or a force of or law of nature and life. It’s kinda ambiguous in many ways. Just like the concept of the Elden Ring, the Golden Order, the Greater Will, the Crucible, the Primeval Current. These are all things that exist on multiple dimensions and perceptions. They are all ideas, concepts, laws and ideology, as well as forces of nature and power, and are also physical or metaphysical objects. They all represent more then just one thing, and exist as more then one thing or sets of things. And as for the Demi Gods? I often wonder if they all aren’t just facets of Marika herself. Just as she is the Elden Ring, and the vessel for it, each great rune has its own function and power. I think maybe they didn’t become truly independent, whether they knew it or not, until Marika shattered the Elden Ring. Each one represents and holds an aspect of the elden ring, was each given a great rune Marika, could even have been born with it. But all of them were bound, or anchored to the Elden Ring and the Matrix of Marika and Radagon. Once the shattering happened then they were free and empowered to do as they will? Just an idea.

@@Thedeepesttruth An Empyrean seems to be a candidate for godhood, not someone who has managed to become a god. All of the Empyreans that we know of seem to be from among the normal denizens of the Lands Between as well, so the GEQ probably isn't a god or an atypical entity. The Black Flame isn't necessarily divine either, yet it can still kill gods.
@Thedeepesttruth
@Thedeepesttruth 3 ай бұрын
@@nightscout9979 Oh yes I agree it’s true. An Empyrean seems to be designation. Like a title given. But I just meant more that just because something isn’t stated out right doesn’t mean it can’t be true or vice versa. Marika is both an Empyrean and a God and a Queen. The very fact that the Gloam Eyed Queen is named such, and is an empyrean, what’s to say they weren’t a God? Or What if she was the previous God to Placidusaxes’ Elden Lord? Maybe she was some form of serpent humanoid, and it is her dead body that Marika takes the elden ring from in the cutscene? We just don’t know. But just cause you did or didn’t become a god doesn’t mean your not an Empyrean I don’t think. And I don’t think the GEQ was just a normal human or mortal. To have once wielded the power of destined death and the full power of the black flames? And to have all your disciples being such a mix of man and serpent? No even if the GEQ is Melina, she herself isn’t a normal human or mortal. One because she is a spirit, two a demigod, and three she is able to act as both a maiden for us which is actually a title like Empyrean and is most like a Priestess or Miko. Which is the actual name used in Japanese for Marikas home of shaman village. Miko village, the closest we have in concept is a shaman or priestess. Which I think is the same in concept of a Maiden. They are a spiritual guide and channel for the power held in Runes. Besides I’m pretty sure Marika isn’t human. Nor is she of the Native humanoids of these lands. I think the numen or shaman race is a special race on its own, like the dragons or the horned sent. Maybe they did come from another world? Or maybe that is a misunderstanding after eons of the shadow realm being sealed off from the world. If it is the birth place of Marika and the Numen, than technically speaking they are from another world. That’s how separated the shadow realm seems to be. And it’s fascinating to think part of the lore includes assumptions and misconceptions made over long periods of time by people who do not have or know all the pieces! But regardless, sorry for that tangent. But it sort of proves my point of multiple meanings and perceptions of a thing being all true but different. While I think there is a Connection between Melina and the GEQ, it may not be that she is or was her literally. Maybe she is the reincarnation of her? Who knows? But there is a reason why all of Marika and Radagons kids, which I include Melina and Messmer in that, have great power and an affliction. And those affliction happen to be connected to either Outer Gods or Other Powers/Entities. Ever her kids with Godfrey come out wrong? The Omen Twins and I think Godwyns Deathblight existed in some form when he was alive? Maybe he or his mother’s power kept it at bay? And with the death of his soul that curse too full root and was free to grow. The only Kids who weren’t born extremely cursed is Radagon and Renalla’s! And even they all had bad endings or chose an accursed life.

@@Thedeepesttruth Marika was an Empyrean, but once she became a god, she was only ever called a god. As for being a queen, that's just a title related to the nation she led, akin to Rennala being the queen of Liurnia. As for the GEQ's powers, she could have been a skilled warrior or sorcerer who found the Rune of Death, using it akin to how Maliketh does, and with the knowledge of how to create homunculi, unless the Godskinners are indeed a normal species. This is a setting where a civilization of dragons once reigned and were still considered natural to the world, so either possibility isn't unheard of. The Shaman Village term can go a bit deeper than "Miko", such as a reading of "Itoko" instead. Melina also seems to be cursed by the Fell God, hence why she can burn as fuel to torch the Erdtree, and Marika probably studied this to prepare the Finger Maidens for the Tarnished. The Fell God appears closer to being an outer god, since it's immortal and its pupil resembles the constant storms on Jupiter's south pole, matching the cosmic theming of some other outer gods. Since Messmer's example shows us that Marika can bestow (prosthetic) eyes, Melina's left eye might be a spoil of war Maliketh took after defeating the GEQ, or Marika crafted it for some purpose, maybe to make Melina accept burning the first time. Numen being aliens who traveled from another world is a popular theory, and the Nox's focus on the stars and advanced civilization certainly contribute to that, along with the Elden Beast and Astels traversing the galaxy. Regarding Godwyn, I don't think he had a curse, I just think that Ranni created a Death Blight outbreak.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how if you beat up the Hornsent Grandam for calling you a son of a bitch, she reveals that she's casting the Omen curse as a punishment to Marika's people. This, combined with the Lamenters being seen as creepy hornsent who want to create a world of torture and whose horns harm them, suggests that the Omens are still cursed. Freyja also notes that Jerren would dislike Miquella's plans, and since Jerren is implied to be Radahn's best friend and understands him more than anyone, this means that Radahn probably always rejected Miquella. Radahn also kept the stars frozen, thwarting any "fate" they could possibly give Miquella to become a god. Additionally, for truly deep lore, if Radahn became Elden Lord, Marika's new husband, he could force his dad to get back with his mom and try to undo her trauma from their sudden divorce. Miquella was born to Radagon and Marika, so he might want his own parents to stay together. The DLC thus hinges on crucial divorce lore, along with Miquella's fears that his dreamy onii-san might get with his mom instead. As a femboy and a 12-year-old, this would be devastating to Miquella both as an anime trope and as Xbox Live's target demographic. Furthermore, while it's implied Godrick can use grafting because of the DLC revelation about Numen flesh, we learn a far more important detail about him. Godrick once insulted Malenia, and because Malenia is a rotten woman who we now know works toward yaoi relationships, Godrick used his Land of Reeds weeb knowledge to call her a fujoshi. Metyr was once in contact with the Greater Will, so the stuff about gods and orders might still be true, she's just bitter ever since the Greater Will bought a new radio and stopped using her finger antennae to talk to people. Messmer's condition isn't part of that by the way, he was born with the abyssal serpent being after his fire rather than Marika putting it in him as her own idea or Metyr's idea for the system. As for Ranni's idea of reforming the system, she still wields the Elden Ring, she just moves really far away from the country while doing nothing to solve the major problem she personally caused and takes the best resource to do something about it with her. Ranni is the embodiment of unregulated capitalist industrialism. That's canon, it's in the lore. Thanks for another great video, Tark!

Freyja says Jerren wouldn't like the idea of undoing Radahn's death, but says Radahn would prefer being alive to being dead. It's kind of hard to argue with that logic. The only thing that contradicts her is the completely baseless assumption that Radahn was mindless in the final fight just because he doesn't talk.

@@CPU9incarnate Miquella is trying to revive Radahn to work for him, and with how Miquella operates in particular, to be a pawn. Based on Freyja's acknowledgement that Jerren wouldn't like this, we can infer that Radahn himself wouldn't like that either. Also, in the boss fight, we can see Radahn's power and will seemingly flare up, only for Miquella to exit the gate and try to quash it, even changing the color of the aura to his own. As such, Miquella seems to be actively trying to control Radahn and limit him, which might also prove to be Miquella's undoing. I wonder if Miquella even used all of Radahn's soul, considering that we have his Remembrance and Radahn seemingly couldn't be charmed to just work for Miquella during the Shattering.
@CPU9incarnate
@CPU9incarnate 3 ай бұрын
@@nightscout9979 Miquella doesn't make a pawn of anyone. Tark is just wrong here, his powers manipulate emotion, they don't control anyone. Mohg fell in love with Miquella when he got near but still tore Miquella from the haligtree, dooming it. This is because someone can work against your interests even if they love you. Sometimes, BECAUSE they love you. Also, his power seems to be passive, and just affects everyone he is near for any reason, even when he's not paying attention, such as Ansbach being bewitched when he attacked the comatose Miquella. Of course, Miquella could and probably did at times intentionally affect people just by getting near them on purpose. No, we cannot infer that Radahn wouldn't want to serve as consort based on Freyja saying what she did regarding Jerren, because what she said is that Jerren would disapprove of undoing Radahn's noble death at the festival, not disapprove of Radahn becoming Miquella's elden lord. What happened regarding Radahn's aura in the boss fight is that Radahn was getting extremely angry at you, the tarnished, only for Miquella to appear and soothe his rage. If there was a deeper element to it, it was possibly that the Formless Mother was trying to affect Radahn through Mohg's blood, feeding on his negative emotions (as she does with everyone connected to her), but Miquella banished her with his own ability to affect emotion and to repel outer gods in general. Miquella also did not limit Radahn, but DRAMATICALLY empower him. They only lost because the tarnished has infinite tries due to having true immortality thanks to the erdtree or something.
@nightscout9979
@nightscout9979 3 ай бұрын
@@CPU9incarnate Dude, Miquella literally turns the Tarnished into a pawn if he lands a second grab before the sigil is cleansed away, hence the unique "heart stolen" text. Miquella is certainly turning people into pawns, even making Ansbach, who was trying to kill him, serve him in a way that Ansbach seems slightly traumatized by. Miquella's power is also *not* passive, because the Bewitching Branch's item description tells us that Miquella has gotten very good at *compelling* affection from people. Charming Mohg would have never been accidental. Miquella's means of undoing Radahn's death is by making him his pawn Elden Lord. Jerren is implied to find that unacceptable, so Radahn likely would too. Additionally, Radahn appears to have fought tooth and nail against Miquella in the Lands Between, and in the Phase 2 cutscene, Miquella doesn't calm him down, he tries to *replace* the aura. Radahn isn't implied to be getting blind with rage, just more intense, akin to his aura as his powers up in the Starscourge fight, Hoarah Loux's aura after his Earthshaker variant, etc. The red aura fits with the knowledge of Flame Arts that the Redmanes have, and Miquella is very much limiting Radahn instead of empowering him. In Phase 1, Radahn has *0* Holy resistance even though Starscourge Radahn, like all demi-gods and even Hoarah Loux, has 40% Holy resistance. Radahn's weakest status resistance is the Scarlet Rot too, even though normal Radahn survived it for ages after being hit by the strongest Scarlet Aeonia in the setting's history. Holy resistance only comes in Phase 2 when Miquella arrives, and Miquella contributes beams, rings, and energy clones. Radahn only gets stronger by unleashing a new combo of his own, though Miquella still adds lasers to it, and trying his meteorite impact attack, but even then Miquella tries to put his own spin on it rather than letting the natural technique take place, and Miquella's aim with the initial lasers isn't very good. While the homunculus Mohg-Radahn is definitely strong, Miquella is still overly restrictive to it, and we can see that things are amiss even when compared to Radahn's state at the Radahn Festival.

@@nightscout9979 Miquella was literally unconscious when Mohg was bewitched. Probably Ansbach too. Also, I'm not sure why you're acting like it's unreasonable for Miquella to non-lethally disable the tarnished, the person who walked into the room to kill him. He's the only boss in the entire game other than Patches to even consider an option besides lethal violence, but for no reason everyone acts like he's a bad guy for not immediately going for the kill. Jerren disapproved of the idea of undoing Radahn's death. Radahn was not made into a pawn, he was a would-be elden lord. Your interpretation of the cutscene is just wrong, Radahn is clearly seething at how well you're fending him off, and then stands up confidently to resume the battle once Miquella shows up to help him out. Also, I genuinely can't believe that you're suggesting that phase 2 Radahn is somehow Miquella holding him back. Like, did you even play it? He's unbelievably powerful. And again, you spout baseless nonsense about him being mindless just because he doesn't have dialog. Was Rellana mindless? How about Romina?

I think that Miquella promised Radahn an absolutely glorious death in battle, which is why Malenia warred with him the way she did… but even still, it doesn’t quite fully make sense when left just at that because why didn’t radahn succumb to death afterwards? He just chose not to and to continue on in his miserable rotted existence. I don’t know if this was because his mind was already becoming warped and rotted, or if it was because he was only being mind controlled by miquella to do the vow to begin with, or perhaps something different yet still maybe having to do with not yet being done at his task as the star scourge

Does this mean that the greater will itself gave Goldmask the mending rune of perfect order? I like to think so

The rune says that Goldmask found it, seemingly like finding a mathematical proof, rather than him being given or creating it.

@@nightscout9979 someone had to make it though, right? What other being holds that power?

@@Itdontgetbetter If Goldmask found it like a mathematical proof, then the Mending Rune of Perfect Order might have always existed, akin to how mathematical equations function.

@@nightscout9979 funnily enough there is a debate on whether math was discovered by humans or invented. Not saying you’re wrong. I just like my interpretation better. Your interpretation is obviously well thought out as well. So don’t take that as an insult.

Wow, so basically the dung eater ending is the best ending as its essentially avenging the millions of Hornsent slain by Marika's evil tyranny. If it wasn't locked behind the most tedious questline i would do that ending every playthrough

Here is the summary: the Shadow Realm is a sealed off part of the Lands Between. Marika’s homeland is in the Shadow Realm. Marika’s people are persecuted by people with horns so she becomes hornist and turns the tables. The horned people wish to create or ascend to their own divinity and create a gate to do so. Marika uses said gate to become a god. Once becoming a god Marika burns the shadow realm and locks her son away in it. Miquella has the power of mind control and controls Mohg to be used as a pawn. Whether Mohg intentionally kidnapped Miquella is unclear. Once reaching the Shadow Realm Miquella sheds his physical being and essentially becomes a spirit. In the process he discards his great rune which turns off his mind control, which leads to many of his followers abandoning their servitude. Our killing of Mohg and Radahn is actually essential to Miquella’s plan, as well as the death of Malenia. Malenia would sicken the perfect world Miquella wants to create as well as bring the meddling of an outer god into play. Mohg and Radahn act as two parts of a puppet. Mohg is the body of the puppet, and because Radahn has some weird pseudo gay, incest vow with Miquella, Miquella used Radahns soul and power (which we released from his body upon defeating him) as the strings of the puppet. TL:DR Miquella is a questionably evil and incestuous puppet master and Marika had a rough childhood which led her to abandon her serpent infested son in a ongoing genocide of horned people.
