I've lived an hour from NYC my entire life and it's so true that it's always a LOT...it's so busy all the time and that feeling of "go, go, go" is exhilarating and exhausting all at once. Whenever I go there I have the best time but then I come back on the train and I get off the platform here in a small CT town and it's SO quiet and I just breathe a sigh of relief, haha. That's when I realize how much overstimulation there is there. Personally I couldn't live there but I feel like it's the best of both worlds where I am. I can hop on the train and go to the museums, shows, shopping, etc but I don't have to live in it.

Okay but I loveee the casinos in CT. Like I was going to Foxwoods every weekend from NYC for a whole summer once lol. I personally preferred it over AC but since COVID they've made a lot of changes that I'm not crazy about- I miss club shrine soo bad, they still have bottle service but its not the same, it used to be so much fun- it was even in the top 10 clubs of the tristate area. Maybe in the future it will go back when all of this is finally under control and a lot more predicable in terms of safety again.

I'm from a tiny rural farming town in kansas, where everyone is pretty friendly. I've traveled a lot and feel that I was the most accepted and treated the best in NYC. I got lost and was helped with directions multiple times and chatted and met so many new people. NYC had a bad rap for being unfriendly but that wasn't my experience at all. In fact it's my #1 place to move someday when I'm tired of small town living and want a change.

Yes they discriminate, they don’t believe in medical freedom over a shit vaccine that doesn’t work, and they have gone full blown Nazis , baring handicap people who don’t want the vaccine from going into any store! And asking for people to show their medical papers, it’s a shitty place now...

@@iloveart20101 NYC has a vaccine mandate too tho- like if you want to do anything, get into any place- the gym, movies, museum, restaurants, clubs, anywhere that isn't a doctors office or store (even Starbucks is enforcing the mandate although I saw they stopped asking for cards- just have a huge sign up lol) you have to be vaccinated. Other than that I'm sure it is better here than Kentucky, but like most place there are places here that if you dont know the place- stay far away cause it does get dangerous. For the most part though the only thing better about Kentucky than NYC is the cost of living- that really is the only benefit I see.

We’re very friendly here. We’re just also savages. The thing is it’s the transplants who are mean and awful. I don’t mean immigrants! Immigrants are the most real NYers. I mean awful uppity uncultured oafs that’s fine here and try to bring their unfriendly mores into the big city. Native NYers might be downright evil individuals, but we’re ALWAYS very friendly!

It’s interesting that you said in NYC everything feels like an event and that can be hard as an introvert. I’ve always loved my NYC time because like you said you can totally blend in. I’ve always felt super anonymous in NYC and love it. I always tell people that NYC is perfect for an introvert because no one bothers you whereas in a small town EVERYONE knows your business.

honestly i agree with this more. i’ve lived in a small town my whole life and i am an introvert, and i can’t wait to move to more of an urban area someday. i feel like being an introvert and being in an environment where everyone knows everyone and you see people you know everywhere all the time is more of an introvert’s worst nightmare than living in a huge city where no one knows each other / no one cares what you do and isn’t watching you idk

The apartments are SO affordable and nice compared to NY and Boston. Being in the middle of the country makes USA travel to either coast less burdensome. The food scene is… amazing. Such a beach culture in the summer too. Plus, both U Chicago and Northwestern medicine. And closer to Mayo in Minneapolis. Anyway, enjoying this journey. Reach out if you need a friend in Chicago!

Also: Places to visit in Boston: - Old North Church - Mike's Pastry - Any Dunkin Donuts, but the one at Downtown Crossing near the Walgreens and Falafel King are my person favorite - Kelly's Roast Beef, I believe the one closest to Boston is in Brookline on the B green line - any hole in the wall donut shop (People say Blackbird is best, but ask anyone and they'll always say dunks or mom&pop) - Lucky Strike: not a unique venue, but a uniquely Boston Crowd at all times - the bars around the Garden - Frog Pond Skating in the Commons That's all I have for now, but if you need more there are plenty of places and tours. Just don't get roped into the Paul Revere trail, it is cold, long, muddy and underwhelming. Salem is also cool for coffee and witches, as well as just helpful herbs and crystals if you like them!

The trash, rats, the subways, crime, cost of living, dumpy small apartments and extreme weather all on top of a pandemic has been just the worst decision I have ever made. I've been here 3 years and I feel like I'm on a vacation I can't go home from - not in a good way. It's good if you are young and right out of college or if you are super rich. LOL I spent a lot of time in the late 70s and 80s in NYC and it was like that then too--even worse, probably. It does have fascinating energy but I've gotten tired of big cities and urban living. The way you feel about New York is how I feel about Chicago--I spent some time there around 2005 and hated it. All the filth, rats, trash, crime and ghetto of New York's worst areas but mixed up so it was hard to stay out of the nasty areas--at least in New York you knew to avoid specific neighborhoods. And Chicago wasn't beautiful or romantic like New York can be, imho of course. I hope you are able to get out soon and go someplace you like better!

Back in the day people actually would say hi to people on the street, but it’s changed SO much with the influx of out-of-staters over the decades…same with the inability to drive in the rain. Long time Seattleites know how to do this, but I’ve seen a drastic change after people who come from sunnier/different climates. 🙃

I absolutely love how you know what you like and what you want for your life and are not impulsive, Taylor. Managing your money at your age is phenomenal. So, so smart! I wish I had been like you at that age!! Goal driven, adventuresome, brave, decisive, and smart! Before you mentioned contracting covid I was thinking, "How could she live in NY, go all over the place, eat in restaurants, take public transportation, and not end up with covid??" Then BAM! Oh no!! You tell us you ended up being positive! (I hope Rach managed to escape it especially since she's pregnant!) I would've had freaking high anxiety being alone in a new city while battling this horrible virus. See?? Brave , I'm telling you! You're a brave, resilient young woman! 👍🏻

I'm not even finished with the video yet and you've already said something that's really helped me. The part where you talk about working so hard through your life and killing yourself to save and invest to only get towards the end of your life and feel like you've missed out. I'm only 19 right now, turning 20 soon. I graduated in 2020 so my early adult life has been pretty shit, to be completely honest. I jumped straight into college in a competitive program as soon as they opened up schools, wasted an entire year on it before it drove my mental and physical health to a breaking point that I didn't think I would come back from. I've realized I really need to take time to heal the things I never got the chance to as a child (not the best parents..) instead of pushing myself into such an extreme thing to take on considering my health issues just for the sake of telling people I'm hustling and building my future. Right now I work in food delivery (like Uber Eats and Doordash) and while covid has taken away a lot of starts to my adult life, I'm the happiest I've ever been. I know one day I'll get to start putting down the building blocks for my future, but that should be steady process of building and not just recklessly throwing something down. Sorry for writing so much! It's just nice to get off my chest. Thank you for inspiring me to keep moving forward without forcing myself beyond what I can do right now. I don't want to hurt myself or miss out on the important things in life any more.

Taylor, if you're into the city lifestyle but not quite SO fast as NYC but somewhere super friendly, you should try downtown Portland. Its an hours drive to EVERYTHING (mountains, skiing, ocean beaches, rivers - not even an hour, farms, anything and everything you can want). The music, beer and food scenes here are awesome. It's a great place to be.

Taylor, you are 💯 right on the Seattle Freeze!!! I am a native Washingtonian that has lived in several areas of the state, including many years off and on in both Seattle and Spokane. I'm back in Spokane again for a better quality of life - nicer people, less traffic, lower cost of living, and better access to awesome outdoor adventures. Love your positive outlook on life and your candidness. BTW, you are also right about the Spokane accent you mentioned in a previous video. Hubby and I had a good laugh over that one. Spent the whole night saying bag to each other. 🤣 Guilty as charged because it is still coming out as beg! Well, at least now I am aware of it. 😄

Hello fellow Washingtonian! I was born and raised in Seattle; spent HS in Spokane, went to college in Bellingham and now back in Spokane- I find it’s the perfect medium (bigger than bham, but smaller than Seattle). Also my husband is from CA and totally makes fun of how I say “beg” for bag 😂 I never knew I was different until he pointed it out, and Taylor confirmed it 😂😂

@@britnywilson5402 yes agree that the racism is more prevalent here. Less diversity big down side to this side of state. Diversity and the ocean are the two things I miss about Seattle. We adopted our son from Tacoma Washington. I didn’t even get to enjoy a minute of it because I worked my nerves up so much because he was our first baby and we met his entire birth family that I literally made myself sick. It took us seven days before we could leave to go back home because I had gotten myself that sick it was crazy and I am so thankful that my cousin came with us. It’s funny because she’s had several children of her own since and she still says she thought it was the most beautiful birth story she had ever been part of.

I moved to Portland at the end of 2019 from Salt Lake City. I lived right on one of the main streets at the beginning and it was so nice to be able to walk to many places in a few minutes and there was always something fun to watch out my windows. But I also right above a bar and it made me realize I am not a person who can handle constant, random noise. I moved to a different, more chill neighborhood and I’m really enjoying the new environment. It’s fun being in a big city, but I like living a little bit away from the busyness!

The Seattle Freeze comment, haha. It's true. Fortunately there are also a lot of transplants who are less icy. I agree that while NYC people look cold, they are very friendly if you need something. They just seem cold because they're often BUSY, so as long as you are not dilly-dallying, you are not blocking their way, you are not walking slow and completely clueless about your surroundings, then they don't mind you at all and will help you if you need help.
