I know Jim Valantino's son. We worked at Boeing together in Portland, OR. I had no idea who he was until I went to his apartment for the first time and saw all the Guardians of the Galaxy original artwork, and other art his Dad had given him framed on the walls. He is a hell of an artist himself. (I am a writer, always tried to get him to do a comic with me, but he always declined. Said he wanted to make his own way and not be involved in the industry.) One of the characters in Guardians of the Galaxy is actually based on him. He is a really good guy. Smart and talented. Told me stories about Todd McFarlane and other Image guys coming to his house as a kid and hanging out. For a comic fan like me it was like being fly on the wall.

There's a Shadowhawk Chronicles omnibus out there that reprints these early comics in grayscale - I almost like it better than in color, there's a certain grit that elevates the content

I had this thing back in the day and I ate it up. Didn't issue 2 have some kind of gimmick in it with him talking of his helmet and it was some kind of big ass fold-out thing.

Savage dragon and then shadow hawk were the best 2 from launch. Spawn and Youngblood looked cool bit were unreadable. Cyberforce and wildc.a.t.s were both enjoyable but just made me miss them on their x-books

I backed Image to the hilt as a supporter of independent publishing. So I have a tump of comics I never re-read. Still feel they are significant in spite of this.

I started reading through all the Image first wave books in 2020. Out of ALL the books, Shadowhawk was the most complete and interesting book. It actually had proper pacing, excellent backgrounds, a fully coherent plot. People vastly under appreciate Shadowhawk. The mystery of WHO Shadowhawk was a great gimmick and hook. The reveal was great too with the counterpart of Hawksshadow. That page 16 that you said was 80's is soooo Patrick Nagel influenced. WildCATS, Cyberforce have great artwork but they're SUPER boring. Youngblood is very exciting but lacks any coherent story until like 3-4 issues in. Spawn is beautiful but takes too long to get the gimmicks out. Wetworks came out way later and is just schlocky but fun. Savage Dragon is great and is most similar to Shadowhawk in being coherent and well paced.

I always thought this character was a gimmick,had-HIV-broke criminals back ( this would've had 5-O on his &&& for that alone-LOL ) the art-work is worse than Liefeld's ( and that's saying something. LOL.
