I house rule Void Twister to cut (current) Health and Sanity in half rather than outright killing on a failed roll, so they start really banged up in the next mission, it's more fair because while it's awful, but you don't lose important gear or cash.

This may already have been mentioned but using the advanced encounters makes the rooms so much more thematic. If it's too annoying to search for the encounters just keep them in a seperate deck, then they're easier to find. It can even be alphabetized!

Even Death isn't "Death" though as you can resurrect at the Church for a reasonable $500 x Hero Level. The -1 Max Grit isn't great but there are a number of items and level ups that increase your Max Grit. That said if it's not for you you could House Rule an injury if failed instead.

Well it is if you get two identical mutations - you can't resurrect a pile of goo! $500 seems very steep to me. It also unfairly affects single hero posses. $500/ level for a single hero could easily result in permadeath as collecting that amount alone can be problematic.

I was under the impression that you could only scavenge once on a tile? Do you have a houserule for that? Sorry if i just missed the explanation. And thanks for the playthrough, i really like this game :)

For 3&4 heroes it is twice per tile. For 5&6 heroes it is three times per tile ☺Page 14 Revised Rulebook under Scavenging.

Yeah, Void Twister is total garbage. An instant death with no way of mitigating it is completely ridiculous. Even if it is a very slight chance.

Couldn't agree more. Insta death rolls are a strange choice in a modern game 😊

@@Catweazle00 it's not the only instant death in the game either, however the other one will be completely your own fault if it happens, so you get no pity from me if it occurs. The other way is to end your turn on a tile that's 100% lava. Your hero and all their items and money instantly vaporizes if that happens. Which makes perfect sense, really.

@@TuxKamen I'm referring to Lava Tiles, which can be created by certain enemies and are a rather common hazard in the Caverns of Cynder. I can't rightly recall if the doctor has an instakill roll, though a 1 is pretty bad on that table IIRC. Where lava tiles are concerned, it's just instant death to walk into, for both Heroes and most non-Cynder enemies, for that matter.
