What a great movie (and I've watched some real dogs lately!)! Really love the repartee between Viola and the Inspector - he's like the Sherlock Holmes of Immigration. Excellent, thanks🍕🎥

Audio-Video shows excellent restoration ... a BIG improvement on this type of movie I used to see played on KPHO TV in Phoenix. It was just right for us kids to "re-enact," complete with a shanty town type of neighborhood west of our late 1940s tract house development. There was also a small airport nearby (Air Haven; along Grand Avenue/U.S. Hwy 60) and we'd see aged bi-wing aircraft flying every day. Thanks again P.F.

I love the actor who plays Inspector Sullivan, he’s always good in whatever he’s in. This was more interesting than expected, but a really fun flick. Oriental themed movies from the 30’s are always neat! Thanks, PF. :)

Best feature - no music! There were some good lines, all of which were audible, without a loud orchestra overshadowing them, and a fun film to watch.

Too much music in so many films.

One of the greatest of the great movie music composers was Roy Webb. He was as good as any of them, but many of his scores are more atmospheric and evocative. They complement a film like a small but significant fragrance. I've noticed in several that only when the music stops completely do I become aware that it was playing - not that it's weak but that he was able to weave it into the movie in a way that always are supportive.

@@gracecotton9819 I'm so glad you did a little searching and found something that seemed worth further investigating. I often post specific links when I get into details, but here I did not. One sad thing about Roy Webb's music is that dud to a fire in the 1950's or 1960's, many of his compositions were lost. And that makes me think of things lost during WWII...yet we are still blessed!
@gracecotton9819

@@RRW1982 I can truly imagine the dreadful loss he would have felt, having lost so much. I had a similar experience with my music [tapes, discs, and written] some 10 years' ago, and the pain is still acute. Not only things were lost because of both wars, but all our very finely educated and knowledgeable and skillful people, in all countries, were lost. All part of the plan. I am sure that we are living in the last days. I certainly hope so, as this present evil system has got to come to an end.

"You had to have your thrill, you stupid nitwit." Oh, I just love that kind of tough talk between lovers-to-be! Worth watching the movie just for this line. Plus I love seeing Esther Ralston again after my first encounter with her (thanks to Pizzaflix) in the 1931 "Lonely Wives" directed by Russell Mack and starring Edward Everett Horton.

Edward Everett Horton! Was he _ever_ a leading man? He had such acting chops, but maybe that's because he found his niche and stayed put. What a face he had - he could have been a spokesperson for prune juice and retired on his profits from that. He definitely added lots of value to any film he was in. I imagine it was a treat to work with him...

Very good film quality for an 85 year old movie. Ralston was about 33 when she made this. Unfortunately in those days they didn’t have the cosmetics to keep women looking young. The flying scenes were exceptional but the villain surviving the crash was not believable.

Good flick, though I counted 13 shots in that gun battle, which means one of those revolvers fired seven times. Also, there are a lot of blown lines in this. Like at 32:04, Esther says: "If you knew what it meant to have . . . be deprived of the one thing you crave." I guess they didn't have enough time to do second takes.

J. Farrell Macdonald always delivers a persona well. The production values weren't that good but the jerkiness and often non-continuity may be the result of poor handling of the film in theaters or bad handling of the original. Who knows? Was this a B movie or a one film for a Wednesday night or a late Saturday night? It's a pleasure to view these old films just to see human beings doing things instead of contrived scenarios that the studios faked in the 1950s. This film is only a little older than I, but I love to watch the things I saw as a child.
