To clarify, I was supposed to be the butt of the controversies joke, not the voice actors. I don't actually care about the controversies of neither Orlando nor Tara, hence why I didn't go into detail of either. The point of that joke was that people will sometimes blindly get angry at celebrity dramas until it's a celebrity they like, as well as I wanted to put out there that I personally separate art from artist. If you think one drama is worse than the other, I'm not really gonna argue because, as a reviewer, I mainly care about the performances, not the behavior of the performers when they're not performing.

It's one thing to make a kid-friendly Crime Drama parody. But to pull it all off without sacrificing any the core elements and appeal of Crime Drama. Fillmore is godlike for that alone.

The thing about parodies that a lot of people who make parodies seem to forget is that a GOOD parody shows a lot of love and respect for the thing they're parodying. It's not just "Oh look, there's a reference to a thing that's familiar!" That's why Fillmore! is a great parody, it ironically takes the part they're parodying (cop shows) seriously and the humour is in the setting and world it takes place.

Why? Because it's a kids' show that takes kids' problems seriously. It's very common to feel ignored or dismissed by adults who have more experience and perspective and thus are able to deal with comparatively small setbacks and problems, but that may be the first time the kid has encountered that problem and is struggling to learn how to handle it. That's why middle schoolers and high schoolers are so dramatic; everything is the end of the world because for all they know it might be. And knowing that, knowing that the stakes are so much higher than they would objectively appear, Fillmore still reaches out and appeals to the humanity of everyone he interacts with because he knows everyone deserves a second chance. I'm glad you covered this, I'm always happy to be reminded of this show.

And the final scene was so good was that it eas in itself a parody of procedurals where the cop talks down a suspect by humanizing them. The situation in the show is completely ridiculous when you realize what they're using as a motive but it's still a device in writing that is meant to show that the cop sees innocence in a character that others may not. That shows you how well written the show was but also that the creators knew what they were doing because they love the SOURCE they're pulling from. They understand the genre rather than just copying it so they can achieve a tone that is both comedic but gives kid a different tone they wouldn't get in a lot of shows aimed towards them.

Shady you should consider reviewing the KotH episode "The Passion of Dautrieve". It's gotta be one of the largest (if not the largest) character assassinations in the show. Bill finally finds a woman who loves him unconditionally but ultimately breaks up with her due to some really dumb logic.
@christianjohnson53796 ай бұрын
When Shady did his review of "Returning Japanese", he analyzed Bill's hallucination when they were in that tent with John Redcorn, where is depicted Bill being naked on a motorbike using a giant fork as a jump into a gigantic pie. Shady briefly studied psychology and interpreted that dream meaning that Bill is on a path of unhealthy pleasures that will eventually lead to his demise, he's depicted as being naked in that vision because he displays no shame about it nor does he care if he harms others because of it. Basically "The Passion of the Dautrieve" is a blatant example of that being true, he initially gets together with Reverend Karen Stroope and reciprocates her romantic feelings, but because she was the Reverend of their church, they were getting judgements from others, and this inspired Karen to quit her job....but because there was no longer any sense of "forbidden romance", Bill didn't find any spark in the relationship anymore because it was thrilling to be romantically involved with someone when the rest of the world judged them. And yeah, he ended up breaking up with her for those reasons. And I agree, Bill was completely dumb for doing that, he complains about being lonely all the time, and then a good, and decently attractive woman with similar values like Karen and suddenly that's not good enough. Or more accurately, he deep down doesn't actually want to find a woman he can spend the rest of his life with, he just wants pleasure.

Also same Shady. It's like that phenomena where you know you heard their voice before but can't pin their other work. Wendy is just that elusive.

As one of the many people who asked you to review Fillmore!, I was so happy to see you post this video. I am glad that the show is being recognized for being a show that takes itself seriously at times, despite the fact that it's a kid's show. For the next episode to review, may I suggest "Next Stop, Armageddon", since it deals with how to handle grief and loss.

I LOVE how this episode managed to have an adult media reference but without losing the kids. I mean the whole thing with the Randal the Vandal is SOOO obviously inspired by Red Dragon/Silence of the Lambs with him being Hanibal Lecter and the new person being Francis Dollerhyde/Bufflo Bill. I like how they managed to give Randall similar creepy but sophisticated vibe. It's so overe-the-top dramatic, I love it.

4:59 I believe you meant thank you Danny Tamberelli, aka voice of Arnold from The Magic School Bus. Oh wait you a Disney example... aka kid who played Tommy Duncan in the Mighty Ducks movie. Edit: Wait I'm wrong that's Kyle Sullivan playing Danny O'Farrell (very Irish name), aka Kyle from the 2000s All That cast. Or in Disney when he played (looks up imdb)... Techie kid in Max Keeble's Big Move.

What you said about mysteries and showing the person who did it. That's exactly the issue with Detective Conan, too often you can immediately guess who the bad person is because of the way they introduced characters

Hey Shadey you should review the 2003 Starwars animated clonewars shorts. It's only like 3 hours all together and an awesome piece of media most of us remember from our childhood.

Hey, Shady, if you take requests, I highly recommend checking out the anime, Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan. It’s really the Bojack Horseman of anime and is more deep and relatable than some might think.
@ashleightompkins32006 ай бұрын
I fully agree that Shady needs to look at that show but I'd hesitate to call it the BoJack of anime. It's got very dark humour but never goes AS DARK as BoJack. BoJack was a drama, Uramichi-san is a more straightforward comedy.

I was in ISS once, the idea was they would just keep giving me work to do till the day is over. What happened was that the school book they gave me had Shakespear and I just read that and they couldn't take it away since I wouldnt be able to do the work.

When people say "we don't get cartoons like this anymore," it's not just because ones like Fillmore had engaging content that did not insult the viewer's intelligence, but also because these kinds of series were genuinely ahead of their time.

I'm so happy you watched Fillmore! This is one of my favorite Disney shows, and I don't use the word Favorite that often. It's like the best ever. A Middle School that is Massive and has every and any club you can possibly think of. The freaking host Conventions at the school. The kids are able to do stuff that most school would never let them, like use commercial grade kitchens with out adult supervision when they are like 12 years old. I hope to GOD you do the whole show because IT'S WORTH IT! The comedy can be hit or miss but normally it still works, the characters are great, the writing is decent, art is good. LOVE THIS SHOW!

HA! You ain't gonna believe this shady but i watched this same episode yesterday. I decided to get back into it a few days ago and found all the episodes on youtube. This show basically sits the audience down and says "What we're doing is stupid and the premise doesn't really work but if you just let us run with it and don't ask too many questions i swear we can tell some cool stories with it."

@@colewest7096 youtube usually deletes comments where i try and post links but just punch in "Fillmore full episodes" and there's a guy that has an 85 episode playlist. Which i'm assuming is all of them. I also found full playlists for dave the barbarian and dan vs.

"that's evidence, not proof" yes, but that's actually the point. lying about how much proof they have on someone is a common police interrogation tactic, with the idea being to convince someone they've already been caught, so they'll stop trying to play innocent. basically, they wanted stainless to start panicking and run, because that itself would be stronger evidence than just the red mark.

The basic plotline (as revealed over the course of the series) is that Fillmore is actually a former "bad kid" himself, and part of his motivation is helping other bad kids reform, too.

I used to work as a duty aid as my first job (im 25 now) but it was a shock being fresh out of high school and seeing how bad environments could make individuals do bad things. Minus the rated R stuff a lot of incidents parallel a lot of what Ive seen in Fillmore. Though its certainly gotten more complex thanks to the internet. Tagging is insane with how fast tagging can happen.
