This may be the coolest song ever. My Dad was, ALWAYS will be, a world famous jazz piano player. Dave Mckenna. He was THE MAN. Isaac Hayes is THE MAN here. Just so damn cool!

Damn shame Isaac was burned, battered, impaled, shot, his face, including one eyeball, was pulled off, and his limbs were torn apart by a grizzly bear and a mountain lion, and he finally defecated as he died. We shouldn't be mad at Isaac for leaving us, we should be mad at that fruity little club for scrambling his brains

The dude playing bass on this track is named James Alexander. He was the founding member of the Bar-Kays. His band was flying in a Cessna from Cleveland to Madison, Wisconsin December 10, 1967. He wasn't on that flight. That plane had been owned by James Brown, who had warned the new owners not to fly it. All the Bar-Kays died at 3:28 pm, when the plane crashed into Lake Monona, near Madison, Wisconsin, save for Ben Cauley. A man who couldn't swim and was sleeping before the crash. Otis Redding, the owner of the Cessna, also died in that plane crash, two weeks before "Sittin by the Dock of the Bay" was released, and became a number one hit.

Haven't heard this in while. I just realized how much the music sounds like Barry White. This came before Barry became popular and has the same sound. Both were talented artists and mixed it up with their own spin. Isaac Hayes was also a good actor with a great screen persona.

Amazed how did Skip Pitts make his quitar squawk like that. All the instrumentals were phenominal but can't stop listening over and over to Skip's quitar playing. I never knew Issac Hayes was such a very talented musical writer. Watching the video of each musician playing is the very best way of listening to this time enduring fabulous musical peace. And then of course Issac Hayes deep beautiful voice...so sexy so fantastic

Gordon Parks, director, cinematographer was the bomb, he was sooo cool... filmed on a $500,000 budget, made millions. Proved Black people would support culturally relevant films, and bring in a nice return. Shaft is very important in film history for that reason. After this film came a string of Black themed films. Also, the great theme song by the great Oscar winner Issac Hayes..who scored an Academy Award for best movie score "Shaft Theme Song." Very nice 😍

On this day in 1972 {April 10} Isaac Hayes won an Academy Award for 'Best Original Song' for the "Theme from the movie Shaft"... Six month earlier on October 16th 'the Theme from Shaft' entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on November 20th, 1971 it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... Also in 1971 the Bar-Kays released "Son of Shaft"; it entered the Top 100 on December 25th, 1971 and stayed on the chart for 10 weeks, peaking at #53... R.I.P. Mr. Hayes...
