After Afghanistan beat Australia on Saturday, I reread my favourite cricket article "A team of 11 Afridis" that Jarrod wrote in 2016. An amazing combination of cricket, social commentary, geopolitics and Afridilust- 4 of my favourite things. Keep up the great work!

Afridi was a precursor to modern day aggressive batting. I am an India fan and have been watching televised cricket since the late 1980's. There are two players who used to put the fear of God in India fans regardless of the format being played -- Afridi and Jayasuriya. These two were light years ahead. It's astonishing to think that they were batting with a 2024 attitude in 1996!

Great video! Afridi’s often criticized and called overrated post retirement because of his Batting Average, whilst people often forget how stupidly good of a bowler he was. He deserved a place in that side because of his bowling alone, his batting also had an X factor that no one in Pakistan has had since. He stepped up with the bat countless of times. Something that the average simply doesn’t show.

If Shahid Afridi had made his debut around 2018, he would have been the most destructive T20 batter. Just like Jarrod mentioned, you can not set a field to Afridi, now add the powerplay into the mix and you have a boundary hitting monster. Its a shame that Pakistan team had someone who played T20 cricket before T20 existed but now they are known for their defensive approach in T20s

Yes Sehwag was a better top order batsman with proper cricket shots as well as mindless bashing. Afridi was a great all-rounder finisher.
@nuxxism5 ай бұрын
Apples and oranges. Afridi's primary skill was bowling, and he was a lot better than Sehwag there.
@handlewithoutcare5 ай бұрын
@@nuxxism well to be clear, even in the video Kimberly mentioned that he was more famous for his batting. He was more of an all-rounder but his claim to fame was definitely his batting. In that department Sehwag seems better. In bowling, Sehwag could bowl a bit, had a better strike rate than Afridi in ODIs but Afridi bowled a lot more than him over his long career (>4X). So yeah Afridi was a useful player, but Sehwag was better, when it comes to consistent aggressive and match defining batting.

@@Anon63436 the problem with pakistanis is that they think they are relevant enough for Indians to hate them. Bro you are not. We don't even compete with you, in any field. Be it economically, spiritually, militarily or in cricket. Our goals are higher. Pakistan is indeed obsessed with India because it is behind (thanks to the fůck3d up political system). Coming to this video, the video is mainly about his aggressive batting attributes, on that front sehwag is the ideal candidate to 'compare' him with. Btw before you try to point out a non existent hypocrisy here, compete and compare are different things. One should compete with better, but it is okay to compare with a worse example. That's the reason I compared him with sehwag on the front of aggressive batting.
