Shakedown Camping & Bringing the RV Home + Our First Trip to Buc-ees!

We spent our first night ever in our new 2021 Thor Gemini 23TW aka shakedown camping. You do this to learn your rig and to make sure everything works as it should. The good this for us being RV rookies is that our dealership, MHSRV, has a shakedown campground on site. We tested everything out from driving it, sleeping in it, taking a shower and cooking a meal. Lucky for us, all was good and we were ready to drive our new beauty home!
It was such a fun experience driving our new rig home!! We were like two kids on Christmas morning with a new toy! And just for fun, we made a stop at Buc-ees... to look around and $73 later we left the store. This place is dangerous! But we had an awesome brisket sandwich lunch and beef jerky, boudain and fudge for later. Once we made it home, we had the boys give it their stamp of approval and we welcomed the Gemini into the EECC Travels family!

Absolutely beautiful you will love it so much....one thing we found very very useful was rubber shelf liner it comes in a roll you can buy it anywhere we lined our cupboards in our Travel trailer with it and used pieces around our glassware and nothing moved....great stuff...Viv

Congratulations! You have tons of memories and fun coming your way! We’re on year 15 of RV’ing, both recently retired, and now downsizing to go full-time this spring. We can’t wait to get started! Great job with your shakedown guys! The IKEA bins are perfect-I also use them in the fridge to keep items in place If your dishes and pans rattle while driving-layer felt or foam between them. That road with the "stress fractures" looks like my neighborhood roads. Those black squiggly lines are what they use to fill the "fractures". Unfortunately, ours are not smooth and they are loud when you drive over them. Buc-ee's is my favorite place to stop. If we are going to be traveling in Texas or even on I-10 in Alabama, we add a couple hours to our trip for the stop at Buc-ee's (hahahahaha).

LOVE Buccees and the BBQ sandwiches!! It’s a must do every time we go to Texas. You didn’t talk about the bathrooms but they have the BEST bathrooms....they are huge and spotlessly clean. In addition, their coffee station is remarkable.

I came looking for this comment. Usually that’s the first comment people make about Buc-ee’s, the restrooms. Spotless, more of a room than a stall, and at least 75 of them. If you find yourself passing one, go in, it’s so strange to say because it’s a gas station, but it will be worth your time.

Bucees roasted pecans are awesome! The chopped brisket is better. Yes, I am a Texan and have been to a few Bucees. In fact, the Baytown Bucees is less than 75 miles away from us. We live next to the Louisiana state line.

Look at the fuel gauge, there is an triangle next to fuel symbol. If the triangle is pointing to the right, fuel fill is on the right side of your vehicle. Triangle pointing left, fuel fill on left.

Congratulations on your new rig!! I’ve seen on other RV vlogs that flexible baskets are helpful too if you need to squish it inside the space or other things are next to it. Some place their cups and dishes in lower drawers and food items or snacks in the upper cabinets. Also in their RV videos, Gone With the Wynns, they lined their dishes with (I think) silicone to help minimize their sliding around.
