Patrons give this channel a step up: www.patreon.com/wordsnwood ----- ----- ----- I designed and built myself a stepstool 15 years ago. It has lived in our kitchen ever since and is as solid and functional now as it was then. I decided to make another one, and this time document the process with a video. I had intended originally to do a faithful historic duplicate, but the original shaker stools that I found in books are really quite large --- too large for our average modern house with 8foot ceilings. So I had to scale down the design to just 19 inches tall. So instead of a shaker step stool, it is a shaker inspired design. I'm very happy with the results, and the fact that the original is still going strong at age fifteen is a pretty strong endorsement. You might be able to build these just from following along in the video, but I do have detailed plans available at a modest cost. Your purchase will help me out; thanks! www.wordsnwood.com/plans/shaker-stepstool/

From one sawdust junkie to another, enjoyed the subject matter, clean, simple and functional. Shaker furniture is always fun to build. Good narration as well. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Nice stepstool you made. No doubt it Will serve you very Well. The contrasting wood really pops out after the finish. ( I Mean the color not the dowel itself ☺)

Very nice build Art and your 15 year old one looks as good as new, well maybe not as new but you get the idea, it's lasted well. Barry (ENG)

Thank you... sorry to be not able to buy your plan online ...am from Algeria ....but still if possible to have just some dimension to build one please

Really like the simple functional design. I’m with you on the contrasting wood it looks great. This is an item that will end up in a family member’s home in a hundred years time, have you considered pencilling somewhere inconspicuous the details of when where who, so that there will be a connection for following generations?

Just curious - to gauge how the color will progress--was the original the same type of wood and finish?
@Wordsnwood2 жыл бұрын
I used a "tung 'n teak" oil the first time, which is similar to danish oil.

Why the brad nails vs dowels for the top step? Didn’t know if it was just personal choice or what. It’s a cool technique either way. Just curious
@Wordsnwood Жыл бұрын
The little pin nails just keep it from slipping while being glued. The glue provides all the strength needed.

Nope... Having depth of field issues. Could be me, could be the camera... Don't have the budget or the time to reshoot when that happens. Need to work on it! Thanks for watching anyways!

Are the plans metric, imperial or both ?
@danharold30875 жыл бұрын
Looking at the material list I see imperial.
@Wordsnwood5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Imperial, sorry.
@bighands695 жыл бұрын
If you need metric just do a rough conversion. 12 inches roughly to 300 mm and so on.

Last one I watched was done without any power tools. The best furniture was made in 17 hundreds without any power tools.

Hmmm. Two step stools? A helium balloon party? Love the stools but I usually do things alone and can't find someone else who wants to join me when I'm on a stool changing a bulb or getting that Turkey platter down ..🤣.🤣 Nice build. I tend to prefer Craftsman style but..Shaker is OK.
@Wordsnwood5 жыл бұрын
Who says I'm keeping both? 🤔

They are handy for around different parts of the house including bedrooms, hallways, garages and about anywhere you can think of. I have hundreds of them around the house.
