Exactly. Eminem was an inspiration for theses guys. They made a song called HIP HOP LOVER talking about their love for the goats and their idols. You’ll be surprised how much they know about hip hop. Please react to that. The song might be a bit emotional for hip hop lovers and rappers.

Suga did that in Daechwita as well. Considering these cyphers are their responses to those mumble rappers who has hated and said awful things about them, it’s quite sarcastic and funny too, in particular if you read Korean lyrics. They are so smart! 💜😁

I think the lyrical intentionality of the RM section is an element. Bae has two meanings. Firstly, elders or sunbae who in SK are expected to receive respect. Secondly baby which in romantic relationships is a diminutive which means I am a source of your support and you need me much like an infant needs a mother. RM lists a series of putdowns elders had dissed him with punctuating each one mockingly with the word bae. ARMY which is a big part of the reason BTS weathered a disproportionate number of early hardships gets to participate in the dissing by repetitively yelling out the word bae along with RM. The verse end with a mocking you know my name because I am successful. So yes the musical formula is much easier, but RM intends it to be so knowing frequent repetition inspires fan involvement. Keep in mind Picasso inked many simple works as artistic expressions because he had the cred as a full-fledged artist. Mumble rappers who haven't shown their wherewithal are lame because they lack credentials as rappers. Real rappers to me once they have shown their skills to be worthy should not be lumped in with lame rappers because they have artistic reason for treading outside the lanes which established them as talented.

Found you when you popped up in my feed for BTS. Love your name. I am a classically trained Shakespearean actress. People have long wondered about my love of certain types of rappers. They are modern day Shakespeares. If you haven't seen it there is a Ted talk about Shakespeare and rap and those scholars in the audience can't tell if it's Tupac or Shakespeare. 🤣 One of the main reasons I love BTS is not only the onomatopoeia but the actual word play and poetry. Keep it up 😘💜

Army appreciate honesty more than anything. It just seals the deal for us. As long as someone explains the reasons for it because then at least there is a discourse to talk about. I agree with you on the technical standpoint, you expect them to go hard considering the progression last 3, but they went mellow. Suga went hard though. Honestly not the first time with them. They just won't give you what you expect. 😅 Although they called it a cypher, it does not give a cypher vibe. Its better to call it a track. Its a whole vibe though. From what I've learned, they were kicking off their love yourself movement hence this track came on. Also at this point they became confident enough to not have to prove themselves because of the whole self love thing which is a HUGE portion of BTS's discography. Hope this helps. 😅

@@Shakes-P I'm no expert on hiphop, but I can bet everything that BTS will never do mumble rap. They have shown their distaste to it many times in their songs. Maybe he did a generic easy flow. I agree with your review. They hate mumble rap. They incorporate that as a diss for the mumble rappers. The audio versions a lot more clearer. Cypher 4s my least favorite too. Out of the modern guys in the west ,I only listen to Logic. These days I listen mostly to Korean and Indian rappers when it comes to rap. About our guys in BTS, j hopes more of the guys that rides the beat and constantly switches flows(he was a former street dancer, and he uses that rhythm ,muscle memory to get with the flow). Please react to “Agust D” by Suga, Joke by RM, Change by RM ft Wale, …..and if you are open to vocalist, the 4 vocalists in BTS are monster talented as well. But I understand if you do only the rapline☺️. ( sorry for the long comment)

I appreciate your honest reaction. For me, I really like Cypher 4 because I like the message. In general, the older the song/track, the harder the rap. As they’ve gotten older, their style and messages have also matured. They are all great rappers no matter what criteria you’re judging them against. The newer rap songs are no longer about just dissing their haters. Listen to Respect, Dis-ease, People, Moonlight, Shadow, Persona, Ego (and the list goes on and on) for a more well-rounded look at the rap line. For the harder stuff, go for RM’s Do You and Joke or Suga’s (aka Agust D) self-titled Agust D, Give it to me or The Last. That’s not a comprehensive list, but it’s a start. BTS has over 250 songs/tracks in their catalog and they are working on new stuff right now. Oh, and I agree with others who have suggested Hip Hop Lover!

I agree that as a stand-alone, Cypher 4 doesn't hit like the first three. But when they do all four together as a live medley (one taking a single verse from 1, another from 2, another from 3, then all of them doing 4), you get this amazing cycle of their evolution and skills along with the screaming crowd -- that's when Cypher 4 shines. I saw a comment once that characterized Cypher 4 as RM and J-Hope saying "ah, I'm not going to waste my time and energy on haters anymore" and Suga going "...actually, I've got a few more words for them" and it makes me laugh whenever I hear it performed!

I don't know how many of these have already been suggested, or even if they'll be your style, but if you were looking for some other genres/styles they've done, here's a few! Classical - Black Swan (Orchestral Version) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oICXqamPrt2XsKs [the description on this lyric video also includes some references they made in this song to their past works, so that can be good for context if you'd like!] Neo Soul - Intro: Singularity kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmnRoXd9Z9qfgbM [don't forget to turn on captions for the lyrics! A lot of people hear it and think it's a very sultry song, and it is intentionally done that way, but the actual meaning of the song is much deeper] Latin Pop - Airplane pt.2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaCvhouJpNSDnLs EDM - Save Me kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYvNpZKpdpeYqdE Rock inspired - Dionysus kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y57Shn1pgdySirM [unfortunately that performance doesn't have English subtitles, so I definitely recommend looking at those separately (Doolset Bangtan is a great tool for that in general since they also explain cultural references and wordplay that might be missed otherwise doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/2019/04/13/dionysus/ ), but in short, the song compares art and music to alcohol (which sound similar in Korean), and uses that as a way of exploring their own passion for music Baroque Pop/RnB - Lie kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5q4hommpN6mh68 [this is also one of their songs that's in 3/4 time, rather than 4/4!] Funk - Boyz With Fun kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5y5Z2atrqh_ndE Lofi Jazz/RnB - 134043 kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5Kmk4Cdq7eolac Tropical inspired - Go Go kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGfKq5qMZst1rsk [while the lyrics for this, if you're not paying close attention, may seem very repetitive and shallow, that's intentional and the song is actually a critique on the economic anxiety faced by many people in their generation, as well as the view many have of this generation (ie that they're lazy, that they always blow all their money on dumb shit and that's why they can't buy a house, etc.] Moombahton [which is kind of like... Tropical+Reggae+Trap?] - Blood Sweat & Tears kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2jSYYilfLGiiK8 [I linked a performance rather than the music video because the video for this song includes an interlude section, and I wasn't sure if you'd rather see that or just the song as it appears on the album, but the video is also incredible and very much worth your time if you don't mind the added section! Here's the link to the MV just in case kzbin.info/www/bejne/np6oapljiaqoqsU ] Ballad - The Truth Untold kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnjPYnRpe5KXe68 I'm gonna be honest, I don't know what genre this one is but sonically it's very interesting, both the instrumentation and the vocals. It has a pretty nice bassline with what sounds like an actual bass guitar, as opposed to synth (though I could be wrong), and includes a brass section at some parts. It also sounds WAY different from Cypher 3, even thought they were both on the same album Embarrassed/Blanket Kick kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4a8f3iBfNijecU I also don't know what genre this one would be, but it's incredibly atmospheric and is again a very different sound than much of their other works Louder Than Bombs kzbin.info/www/bejne/babZoZ9sfLV2lZo

I was coming here to recommend Hip Hop Lover (sometimes translated as Hip Hop Phile) as I think you will appreciate the history they know/pay respect to in that song. One of the themes of the Cypher series is BTS basically proving/saying to the haters "don't forget that we can do this on top of everything else that we also do". This comes in another line of an Agust D song where he says "you fried rappers should be glad I'm an idol" meaning, you should be glad I don't do this sort of thing full time, or you'd never be able to touch me. By this point in their career, from my understanding, BTS were starting to feel like... maybe they didn't have to keep proving themselves to the haters anymore. Maybe they could just be them, which includes yes being hardcore hip hop rappers who can rhyme their way around anyone in the industry, but also includes being musical geniuses who use different genres the way most people use different instruments (only most musicians can't play as many instruments as BTS can play genres). That's not to say they ever forgot who they are or put the hip hop that runs through their blood aside - the song UGH is from their last full length album (in 2019) and goes as hard as any of the Cyphers, and the song Dis-Ease which was on their 2020 album is an old school hip hop track that will have you howling whenever you get a chance to listen to it. That's not even mentioning D2, which Suga/Agust D released in May of 2019. But before you listen to those, listen to Hip Hop Lover.

(I appreciate the message of this song describing the emotion of anger) Vocal Line - 0:00 (Zero O'Clock) Sub Group with V and J Hope - Brand New Day ft Zara Larsson (gives me Caribbean vibes for some reason) Other Songs: What's the Plan - Jim Swim (a KZbinr I found recently) Martini Blue - DPR Live (A Korean rapper) Switch it Up - Protoje and Koffee (Jamaican reggae rap artistes) Cool As The Breeze - Chronixx (Jamaican reggae artiste)

I dont put anyone in a box. This is a REACTION it is meant for me to offer up my opinion.... You listen to an album.. your not supposed to like every song on it. shaking my head.
