The bass and drums were played by the producers of the song. It’s in the song credits. Bass by Andrew Watt and drums by Cirkut (Henry Walter). They are also the producers of JK’s first single Seven.

Wow~~~ I am glad that my ears caught that! I was thinking the drums and bass are played real instruments but maybe they were processed in certain degree in the studio so could not be sure! Is the brass played by real players too? Thank you for the info!

Side note : Jungkook recorded this song in 4 hours which he said was the longest recording he has ever done. He usually finishes recording in 2 hours average. He is an amazing vocalist and has the ability to make any song shine. He is a master showman and a magnificent performer. The best from Korea at the moment. Its too bad we will miss him for 18 months.

This is the SOTY… nothing is topping this…. Music that can be described as “timeless” from the jump is truly something special. Ppl who don’t understand jungkook and hear him sounding like another pop artist is bc he’s so versatile and can sound however he wants. They think there’s vocal processing bc of all the different ways he’s singing and then bam he’s live and altering his voice like he does on the album lol he’s a chameleon… truly so special

I still remember how in an album review (I don't remember who), they were saying Jungkook was using a voice modulator for Somebody just because he was singing in his lower register only for him to sound the exact same way during Golden Live On Stage. He's amazing

29:29 honestly there are tons of kpop idols… so many talented ones who can sing and dance… but jungkook is SO much more than his natural talents and learned skills… jungkook is the only BTS member who was recruited specifically for his voice… and he had never even had any training vocally lol and he never took vocal lessons even before debut and after…. He’s got a very unique way of singing bc he doesn’t sing in the standard way …. Most vocalists are all taught the “proper” way to sing…. Jungkook doesnt… he sings in a very healthy way… but also a very unorthodox way… bc he didn’t take vocal lessons lol they were always working and touring.. they didn’t really have time for vocal lessons on top of everything. I think he started taking some kind of lessons just this year bc he wanted to be able to use his speaking voice while singing or something like that… and we got a lot more of his lower register on the album that’s just absolute pop perfection. The music industry needed a new pop king…. And jungkook def stepped up to the plate. Mind you that jungkook didn’t have ANY songs for this album at the time he recorded seven… which was June of 2023.. so he recorded an album of 11 tracks in a language that is not his native language and he is not fluent in… made 3 music videos, multiple performance videos and dance videos while traveling between the US, sk, the uk and Budapest to appear and perform …. All the awards he’s won and records he has broken this year are infinite… swiping the fastest song to 1B streams from Miley Cyrus… who gets all the streams she wants without having to fight for it like Jungkook , BTS and kpop or other foreign artists do… it’s crazy…. And so everything for this album… was done in like 5 months lol I don’t think ppl grasp how difficult it is that this is a full English album … especially bc he sounds almost accent free . The album is just like the English song covers he has always done and the music he has always loved. He just happens to be a huge fan of pop or r and b songs in English that tend to be about love and everything to do with it. This is an album he’s streamed of making his whole career… and this is just his FIRST solo album lol he learned a lot and has grown even more than he already was. Standing next to you deserves awards… and if they deny this one… you just cannot deny a song like this… especially the way jungkook performs it… he’s beaming and powerful … absolutely a superstar that he was born to be !!!

I sooo appreciate you said almost accent free because some people were trying to say it was perfect English when we all know it’s not. It doesn’t have to be because accents can be beautiful if you can appreciate it. He worked extremely hard to improve it so that it is clearer and most people just ignore his efforts like it was easy, ie that horrible critic. You are realistic without being hateful or too over praising. I really appreciated your comment. 💜

JK did have some vocal training after joining BigHit, but he didn't like that it was changing his style, so he decided early on to not take anymore training and that it was up to him to make his singing great while keeping his style.

Closer to you is such a phenomenal song and the deeper melodic rap verses … the gorgeous breathy falsetto in the chorus… the almost eerie music vibe… and with the choreo they added to it…. Hate you is so beautiful… and his love adlib during the “oooooohhhhh” part sent me straight to heaven… this song deserves so much more radio play in the US… it’s so good.

The iheartradio is with the full band, the Jimmy Fallon performance w the dancing and his vocals are obscenely phenomenal… his guerrila show in Times Square where he did a mini concert is a MUST watch. This song is already a timeless classic… it’s ridiculous it’s not getting radio play in the US… it’s a masterpiece. Andrew watt and cirkut loved working with jungkook so much that while recording seven… they wanted to show this to jungkook and he wanted to do it…. They wanted the perfect voice and performer who could pull this off in an homage way …. But being his own modern flair and style to it…. And that Is the definition. If Jeon jungkook…. It’s incredible and production is insane…. Share it with your friends man… but watch the lives please!!! It’s so so so good… absolutely TIMELESS!!!

Agree with your comments - this was such a great informative reaction. Thank you. I do think Jungkook is leaps and bounds ahead of other KPOP artists - his album has so many different elements and its amazing that English isn't his first language but you would never say. This is homage to MJ and here's definitely lots of similarities between the two. SNTY deserves all the recognition, accolades and airplay - sadly though he isn't getting much airplay but killing it on digital and streams. Wish his company would do more to get him on radio- this song would be even bigger

But the radio is still very xenophobic towards K-pop artists, even though JK has transcending into mainstream now. The only way they can increase his chart positions with Radio spins is Payola, which BIGHIT won't bow down to. The only other option for them was to release the remixes.

The fact that the producers of "Seven" played him the song after finishing recording for "Seven". JK liked it enough to want to record it.. He had one night to practice it and went straight into recording it the next day. JK said there was no re-recording done on this. I am ARMY and appreciate the wonderful talents and goodness of all seven of the BTS members. I was pulled in by the variety of their entertainments, including RUN BTS. I also spend a lot of time rediscovering them with some newbies that seem sincere, and especially like to watch reactions with music industry professionals that can point out the elements that make BTS so great. Everyone knows that Scammys cheated them out of awards. However, I wonder if there is a factor that Western listeners do not prefer the high pitch (?) that so many of BTS later songs have throughout, by all the vocalists, and in this case, by JK for most of the song. I like the range that the vocalists have, and the accent and thrill that some of the high pitch parts provide, but to be honest, to have all the vocalists singing high for most of a song would not be my way of arranging it. Besides my preference for their more "natural" sounding voices, many vocal teacher and singer reactors have also praised their talent and technical abilities there. I find it interesting that a number of men associated with singing seem to highly appreciate Jimin and the higher reaches of the guys. Maybe it's because, as a couple of them have pointed out, that it is rare for men to be able to do that so well.

Jungkook chose Jack Harlow so we have to respect his decision. People are still vibing with this song and actually memorized his verse during his concert in time square. I don’t care about jack Harlow’s verse, I just want to enjoy the song. People are just too serious

I think J Timberlake is the one that should´ve gone with JK in 3D in the first place but, it is ok. We are happy with this mix. Standing next to you has turned into my favorite JK song along with My time. Let´s see what are the Scammys going to do with this amazing, amazing, timeless, giant song.

2:48 I agree that JK's 3D with Justin should have been the 1st release and maybe Jack's version as a second release. I did not appreciate Jack's verses in the context of the song. LOVE SNTY - 💜💜💜💜💜💜 Fantastic song with homage to MJ and video elements of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet

I admire this song so much for reasons that can only be put into detailed, educated words by the likes of you guys and the two others on the Throga channel. It's the instruments, the bass and drums especially, the vocal performance, the mixing, it's so damn good man. I'm obsessed to the point of calling this my song of the year, maybe, song of the decade lol

29:21 ??? Dude, you've watched a bunch of content about BTS & where they came from. In what way is Jungkook, "a product of the KPOP machine?" If you want to say that JK benefited from the Korean Idol industry approach/mindset/perspective wrt to music performance, production etc. that would make sense. Saying he's the product of a machine is not only inaccurate, given that he had restricted access to said machine, it's also unfair to him & to BTS and Big Hit. They are independent artists who succeeded DESPITE the, "machine." I get that it's difficult for y'all to put their career into a relatable context, but these comparisons to Western tropes that you're familiar with are failing you. As just one obvious example: why keep analogizing BTS & Idol music to, "boy bands," like NSYNC rather than the far more accurate comparison: Motown groups? BTS (and by extension, JK), have far more in common with The Jackson 5 & The Supremes than they do with 90s Florida teen groups. On top of which, BTS have far more creative freedom than any of the above, so why steal credit for their work & give it to a machine that keeps trying to marginalize them?

This song is the gold in Golden! And as an old dancer this is the first time in a long while that I have been so blown away by a choreography and its execution. The choreography is difficult and perfectly executed! I appreciate the funky music as well and enjoy your take on it.

Most people get the MJ, but I got the tribute to the '70s Disco sound first. The first time I heard the song, it sounded so familiar, and Today I realised the song reference: Rene and Angela's " I Love You More." Bighit producers ara hardcore old-school fans.

I agree to compare MJ have done and JK has a similarity in training... How the Jackson fam train their children to be the best singer & performance that almost the same as Kpop especially bighit wanted BTS to be s precisely sing and dance in perfection.. And the one and only who did the best control tone and improvised vocal while dance is JK the maknae, same as MJ the youngest boy of the group... ❤❤❤💜💜💜

I loved your review of JKs Standing Next To You. It’s music at its finest with all the Funk that I loved as a kid. MJ and my Bdays are a week or2 apart and I was a huge fan. I believe this was filmed in Austria. Theme coincides with 1980s Romeo and Juliet movie. I knew I was hooked 10 seconds into the bass. Jk is a huge fan on MJ. I appreciate your respect and honesty. We have to keep KG out of the whole abuse setup in the West or it’ll ruin him. Btw he let Usher do some of this one too. I think it’s a brilliant piece of music layers and real instrumentals. What do I know though? 67f retired nurse that’s loved music since transistor radio and 55 years of listening power. Thank so much! Oh and you’re right, JK is a perfectionist r/t his experience in training. He’ll pay for what he wants bc he definitely knows what he’s looking for! Thanks guys I applaud your new aspiring workers so I liked, commented and subscribed. Looking forward to seeing what you’re up to! Cool ! 💜😉

Totally agree with you re JT remix of 3D should have been the one in the album…I guess the concept and storyline though is something JK wanted to make with the entire album….so the Jack Harlow 3D describes the initial attraction with the girl….then it evolves until the last song where it plays the clean version of 7. 🤭

Great reaction. All BTS solo songs throughout their careers are different. GOLDEN has different genre but 10 years of creative excellence has given JK stellar musical taste. As for likng live musicians. If you watch JHope at his sell out main stage at Lollapalooza he uses a brilliant live band. They are brilliant they do like working with live musicians.

Hey guys! New to your channel--KZbin recommended it because I've been fascinated for some reason with reactions to this MV. Great review! I so appreciated it because I've heard lots of people appreciate different aspects of the MV but I've never gotten the sense people feel what I'm feeling--the jaw-dropping over the whole sound, the feel, stuff that I guess is the production. I am not at all conversant with the things of that world--it's all magic to me--but I can tell where it is there and feel it when it's not. You are the first ones I've seen react to this with the same delight and awe that I feel when I hear this song. It is seriously solid gold. So thank you for all the enjoyment you shared, and for your discussion of it.
