I always found this song to be superior to the immensely popular "Stay": the witty and insightful lyrics, the existential theme, and the nuanced music. The music video, too, is far more captivating in a subtle, mature way.
@eoghannp8619 Жыл бұрын
"Stay" is the best-known song from the "Hormonally Yours" album of 1992, but this is artistically and lyrically the best song from the album. Also the closing track, fittingly.

"Woke up this morning, and my head was in a daze. A brave new world has dawned upon the human race, Where words are meaning less, and everything's surreal. Gonna have to reach my friends to find out how I feel..... Hello, hello, turn your radio on; Is there anybody out there? Tell me what went wrong." So timely and true. This could've been written yesterday.

Such a stunning song, still. This song and "Goodbye Cruel World" were my favorite songs on the Hormonally Album. I swore that they were written specifically for me during those coming of age teen years. Ah, the 90's.

I loved Stay. It's a great song about love, even if a little naive. But this song speaks to the complexity of life, as a whole. Few songs can do that and do it justice. Hello not only did that, it has held up beautifully. I would be quite happy to have this played at my funeral. PS: Loved Goodbye Cruel World too along with My Sixteenth Apology. All these are my favorites but Hello always hits different.

Siobhan was going through a rough patch at the time, and the success of the song "Stay" only added to the problem. Shakespears Sister was originally a solo project by Siobhan, with Marcella Detroit joining, first for songwriting, then ultimately becoming a "50% member" of the band. Siobhan always took lead vocals, but for "Stay," it was Marcella who sang lead. To say that "Stay" was a monster hit in the UK would be an understatement - it was #1 for 8 weeks. Siobhan was later hospitalized for depression, and it was decided to put Shakespears Sister on hiatus. During this time, Marcella worked on her solo album, "Jewel," but Siobhan decided to end her partnership with Marcella without telling her. Marcella was publicly dismissed at a 1993 awards show, and the two women did not see or speak to each other for 25 years. They finally reconciled and reunited in 2019, releasing their EP, "Shakespears SIster Ride Again."
