I have two dwarf cherry trees that this year (2015) we picked over 20 gallons of cherries. We didn't get all of them as the trees although dwarf are taller that we can get to with ladder. So we share with the birds the top ones. I make jam, juice and pies with the picked cherries. We shared some with family and friends as 20 gallon is alot to pit. Would love a tree shaker : ) We live in the city and the trees are fit right in with the landscape. Think I will try some cherry wine this year.

I worked on this farm as a kid. We used a little different system, but this is now a one-man shaker. It took us 5 people to do what this machine does. Awesome cherries.

The leftover cherries on the ground oddly reminded me of that part in the Bible where when people harvested their grains, they were supposed to leave leftovers on their fields so the poor people could come and collect it for themselves. Then I imagined a bunch of hobos running up to the trees and collecting leftover cherries

Love tart cherries! Apparently mule deer do too. I was in Utah for about a year back in 87 and drove past those orchards fairly often. When the cherries were there mule deer were splattered on the roadside by the truckers like rabbits are around here in the south.

I think what impressed me most about this was how much waste there is. @_@ I get that the thing catches a ton of cherries as they shake down, but look at how much just flies onto the ground and just gets caught in the truck.

That is so Awesome. I love seeing the machine in action. You are a lucky guy getting to pick them. That pipping machine :) We used to pick our cherries in the kilos and I have a machine for removing the stones but it just does one at a time. I used to dry them on a sheet like raisins it was the best way to store a lot of them through the year. Nice video again.

Excellent video. Those cherries remind me of the chokecherries that grew in the yard when I was young. They were much smaller and ripened to a deep red, almost black, but as they ripened they went from green to yellow to orange to red. They ripened at different rates, so at the right time of year, sitting among the branches was an almost overwhelming barrage of color. They were terrible for eating, but made wonderful jelly.

Those who are worried about the cherries that fell on the ground, not everything in nature is for human consumption. There are natural nutrient cycles working, the cherries will get absorbed into the soil n eventually enrich it further. Beautiful vdo tho !

In Russian language sweet cherries are not even cherries, but another fruit with separate name. And REAL cherries are tart cherries. )) And tart cherries are very great to eat. If they grown on the south they have perfect tart-sweet taste - the best in the world like they were at my gramma's house. She made, how she called "king's pozzy" with whole fruits without pit and with shelled walnuts. I do not like walnuts, but walnut in this thing was like heaven soaked in sweet-tart cherry juice.
