I am grateful to have sufficiently matured as an Australian sports fan that I shed a tear of joy when Hazlewoods off stump splintered out of the ground and S. Joseph took off across the field, his team in pursuit and Brian Lara crying in the commentary box. This was the best test match on these shores that I can recall for a decade or more, and the only shame was it’s not a proper 3 test series. Hopefully this performance changes future windies tours for the better, both here and abroad. Victory by smaller nations in test cricket is a victory for test cricket, and the big 3 need to invest in that.

Great to hear. It was brilliant and it's good to be in a place where you can celebrate this stuff. It was a hell of a win.

I rejoice when I encounter someone like you. In addition to having seven debutants, two match test series are the norm for WI. So in along with inexperience, there's comparative inactivity in terms of test matches. That's what makes this the greatest upset in history and I'm happy to be one of the few people who supported this team and felt they could pull it off.

Is someone chopping onions!? Man...there is nothing even remotely comparable to Test Cricket when a game goes down to the wire. I literally can't watch the tennis final tonight as I'm emotionally spent. Arrrghhhhh! We've all been privileged to witness that superhuman performance from Joseph. Just immense. And Smith dispelling the doubters (myself included) was equally meritorious. His reaction was a classy one too, almost as though he knew this was a result that could potentially ignite a calypso resurgence. One final observation: Catches win matches. The Windies caught everything and Aus left a few out there

There’s NOTHING better than test cricket!! Shamar needs to own the rights to any movie made about him because his story so far sounds like something out of Hollywood

I teared up when I saw Lara & Hooper in tears. Fantastic. Two simultaneous tests that turned into ageless classics. Best of luck to the Windies in England. Everyone who loves test cricket wants to see a strong Windies - their decline was like a sick beloved relative.

One of the little things that's stuck with me throughout this series was hearing Carl Hooper say to the WI team "we have to make new memories". They listened, and how!

This is not wise after the event but I have always said that genuine pace would always find the Aussies out and Shamar Joseph did just that.

The thing that is most impressive about Shamar is his ability to process bowling a bad ball and coming back from it. He adjusted so perfectly everytime. His self belief, self awareness, sheer determination and just pure pin point accuracy.

I am a hardcore test cricket lover and one of earliest cricket memories is watching THAT Adelaide test after school with my Dad cheering on South Aussie Tim May... to fail by the slimist of margins. I was there last week and said to my cricket loving workmates there was something about Shamar.... and WOW did he back up. Am I the only one hoping this side stays together for a few years?? The buy-in and culture seems amazing...

As an Australian I was happy to see the West Indies win. And Shamar Joseph was brilliant and I enjoyed watching him bowl, though after only two tests we will see how goes though I hope he can continue his form and help West Indies to more wins in the future. Though I am worried for them as they still need to find a young fast bowler or two that can support him as the other fast bowlers did ok but they were not as threatening. Also they need to find some good batsmens to consistently back up his great work, though a couple of the new batsmens did well. But their catching was brilliant in the slips which I have not seen from a West Indies team since the 80's which something Pakistan in the lead up tests could learn from. If not for Smith then West Indies would have won easily, and maybe that occasion in Australia's first innings when Carey's bail did not drop. But shows the quality of Smith as how here nearly got Australia home. And from an Australian supporter who went through the 80's and early 90's putting up with that great West Indies team and not able to beat and hoping Australia would beat them someday in a series, it has been a shame to see West Indies struggle over the last 20 years, but looking back though I did get sick of them winning but I do apprecaite how great that West Indies team were during that era and I do hope they can get close to that success again. So hopefully everyone in the West Indies gets behind them and gives them the well earned support they deserve and they get more test cricket as they deserve.

Someone please double-check, but I looks like Shamar Joseph's 7/68 off 11.5 overs came at the all-time most expensive rate for a 7+ haul of 5.74 runs/over - even more than Jason Krejza's 8/215 at 4.90! It was such an exhilarating mix of hit-me & unplayable deliveries.

Even as an Aussie, it was impossible not to smile at the result. Also, the Test was a lesson about the risk of declaring with 9 wickets down in the first innings unnecessarily. The last wicket partnership could have been where the last 9 runs came from.
