Oscar®-nominated William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum star in this fiercely engaging and fearlessly twisted series. Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be...perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

This was back when the show had more heart. I feel like Frank turned into more of a comical relief character with more and more ridiculous story lines. I actually like when it was more realistic and his actions actually had real emotional consequences rather then his kids just ignoring him and letting him do whatever he wants.

I work at a child's hospital. I've seen hundreds of cases of kids left out in the heat/snow, dehydrated, hypothermic, FTT, you name it. They are always returned to their parents because for some reason DCF just lets the parents go with a quick "Oh yeah my bad" story. Honestly, I think DCF just believes they'll be better off in a shitty family rather than end up in a home with six other foster kids and no one to call family. My point is I fell in love with this story because I lived through it myself. As long as we're alive and hiding our pain/suffering no one notices. As long as we're out of the way, society keeps ongoing. I mean, when's the last time you thought of checking out that one trailer house with six kids just because you cared? No one would willingly.

while all of them have been through hell, Fiona's was definitely the worst for how much burden she carried, even before her parents actually abandoned them(as she says later that she was nine when monica left). If she hadnt taken Ian to the hospital that night, he could have died. likewise, there have been many incidents like this over the years. she is the very reason they are even alive right now. she deserves all of the peace and happiness she has right now.

Deep down he knows he's a shitty father, but doesn't have the determination to change his ways for the sake of his family. He's too selfish and narcissistic to want to know how to be a better person. He just kinda accepts that this is who he is, and that his chances at having love and respect from his kids is gone.

New to the show. William Macy is brilliant and yes, he's helped make Frank a character you either love or love to hate but I was under the impression that Shameless was about a family struggling under insurmountable odds, despite the odious antics of their MIA patriarch. I'd like it to remain so; and yes, I'm even interested in the Milkoviches and other characters outside of the Gallaghers because unlike anything I've seen (including the UK version) this show is as real as it gets. There are a lot of aspects about it, that reminds me of how I grew up and I can easily relate. Either case, brilliant show, brilliant acting.

An all too common case of what kids do to survive in the face of grossly narcissistic parenting. Yet we usually demonise them for their disregard of authority. It is a tragedy that there are thousands of cases like theirs on the books of child welfare agencies which are grossly underfunded. This excellent series shows it all whilst not pretending that kids are angels. God help the next generation

Honestly Fiona was so much more likable in a beginning. I’m on season 9 and right now the only siblings I like are Lip, Carl, and Liam. But the only one I’d say is unproblematic is Liam since he’s 9.

They may have called, the kids have been taken from him on numerous occasions. That’s why that priest was so used to it. He’s helped Frank get custody back more than once.
