Shamima Begum has lost her latest bid to overturn a decision by the UK government to strip her British citizenship.
The Court of Appeal ruling means she remains in Syria with no chance of return to the UK.
Begum left her home in London aged 15 in 2015 to travel to Syria to join Islamic State group.
The now 24-year-old's lawyers brought a bid to overturn a 2023 decision at the Court of Appeal, with the Home Office opposing the challenge.
The Home Office argued the "key feature" of Begum's case was national security.

The act of burning your passport by itself doesn't represent formal relinquishment your citizenship, but the calculated decision to travel to Syria, join ISIS to live "pure islamic life" is good enough to deprive her of the UK citizenship. But, realistically she was a minor and there's no way you can convince a minor living in a relatively stable environment particularly in the west to up and leave for a unstable war zone without some level of coercing and grooming. It’s a legal thing. You can keep appealing all the way to the European court of human rights I believe. Before that she’ll go to Supreme Court. She probably has a couple of appeals left until she runs out of appeal options. Then they’ll try ‘new evidence’ and appeal with that. Legal process is pretty relentless

This is not an issue for the British government to consider, they did not strip her of this nor can they reinstate this. In Bangladesh there was not as much a single protest or much media activity when they revoked her citizenship. Yet in the UK there has been almost a decade of a media circus around this girl. Maybe it is harsh, but life is harsh, and if you chose to go fight or support a terrorist organisation that's what happens. The UK definitely isn't the only country to do this. Australia introduced a rule in 2015 which automatically stripped anyone of their Australian citizenship if they had either fought for or joined a recognised terrorist group. If she was allowed back she will come back and claim disability benefits claiming (shes under threat) for the rest of her life and nobody will give her a job, she'll be given council housing (ahead of people on the waiting list) and possibly a new identity costing around £1'000'000 and all us tax payers will have to fund it.
