It seems to me that Shane was a tool of Lorries. That it is likely she wanted him bumped off. He would have died in the hospital. All that insurance money and benefits. Would have remarried Shane. Shane never seemed quite able to articulate the problem and seemed hesitant. Right idea poor execution as Rick said. That's believable. Shane is not.
