Holy shit. I've been a wrestling fan for 20 years or so and although I always knew about him, I always thought Shane Douglas is just some bitter ex-wrestler who burned his bridges. I never actually listened to the man talk, or explain his side of things. He comes off incredibly earnest, smart and well-spoken. He obviously remembers a lot of details, sharp mind. And he reminds me of me. Because his philosophies about helping the Kliq at the beginning by offering a house, etc., being gratious and expecting the same are mine exactly. And I got burned by being like this too. I feel for Shane here as the same thing happened to him. He treated someone like his friend, then expected that person to treat him the same and instead they revealed they were never his friends at all. I feel for him. He seems like a straight shooter, a smart, fair guy who gut fucked and history forgot about him. I feel gor him. His biggest mistake was he addressed the Kliq's subtle jabs at him meant to piss him off or derail him directly. You CANT do that, because that's exactly what they wanted - to get a rise out of him so they can they bury him. He swallowed they bait, hook, line and sinker. He didn't understand they would just interpret their way as being well-meaning and that if the manager likes them, he won't see through the BS or won't care if he does. When guys like Michaels and co. try to derail you at work, you need to stay cool and keep your cool even if you know for sure they are undermining you. Never call their BS openly, ever, you will always lose like that.

Now why would three guys who already have superb legacies cemented need to talk about someone else the way they do? I can absolutely see what he means about Ric and how disingenuous he is. Love Shane’s mind for the business and his storytelling; however, he’s wrong about the commentary on the finish of his IC match with Razor Ramon. I just rewatched the In Your House from October ‘95, and there was direct commentary acknowledgment of the fact that Dean’s leg was under the ropes and outside of the ring. Jerry Lawler defiantly mentioned it, then they cut to a replay from an angle which clearly showed Dean’s leg under the ropes and outside the ring. After that replay, both Vince and JR acknowledged on the broadcast that Lawler was correct and Dean’s leg was under the ropes. Perhaps they didn’t focus on it to Shane’s satisfaction, but it was definitely acknowledged on the PPV.

I didn't think of Shane Douglas, until now. Believable from the top of the program to the end. And he still looks like he could pull your head off your shoulders as you lie in a bloody puddle.

Shane Douglas was CM Punk before CM Punk was CM Punk.

In that in your house match during the leg under the rope finish, Jerry lawler mention Douglas leg under the rope, Vince was like “well ref didn’t see it”

Shane has beautiful eyes, fuck. Anyway, ol HHH stole his whole 1999-era look and gimmick from Shane's ECW run.

All I can say is, the more I hear from Shane/Troy, either in a shoot or a work, the more I respect the guy and the performer. I can say the opposite about guys like Paul Levesque, Kevin Nash and Michael Hickenbottom. I think Waltman is an okay guy, but from a young age, he wanted to hang with the cool kids as we all do, and it got him into trouble. Troy Martin is an educated guy, so he was smart enough to avoid some of the nonsense, even if it hurt him career wise with the big companies who pay the big money. Im hoping AEW can continue to be the company they seem to be. No BS, put on a good, fan centric wrestling show and go home without the politics or the drug issues. Stick to cannabis, guys!

Shane has a clear head. Vince is a puppet master and everything . . . and I mean EVERYTHING he does is a work. All the "injuries", all the vengeance (significant, career affecting, injuries due to "stupid, last minute changes" on incoming WCW guys), all of the "WTF" moments . . . it's all a work. He's a Marvel Super Villain. He is the ultimate con man. You'll understand better in a few years when physical debility forces him to let go.

When you have two sides to a story, you can nearly always figure out who is telling the mostly true side... CONSISTENCY. Whoever tells the same thing over and over again is 9/10 times the person to believe. People lie to make themselves look better, but that becomes an issue for them because they start adding on things they thought of along the way that makes them look better. Sometimes it's real subtle, sometimes it's blatantly obvious. Take note next time you encounter a "who to believe" scenario. You'll see what I mean. Long story short, Shane is telling the truth and the Klique lique dique.

Although Shane clearly got a raw deal unfortunately all due to the timing and the politics going on at the time... it cannot be denied that it is absolutely hilarious to imagine Vince saying “we put the belt on you tonight...and then at that point...........” and pointing to the shadows while staring straight at Douglas and all the sudden you hear that *tire screeching* sound or whatever that sound was that played prior to the Razor Ramon theme hitting, then the music hits, the laser light Razor Ramon logo starts flashing on and off on the floor in front of dark area.....(totally conceivable to imagine that at this point Vince is already in commentator mode, most likely building up the suspense, saying “is it?! Is it!? YESSS! YES! THE BAD GUY RAZOR RAMON! TAKE A LOOK IF YOU WILL, HE IS OOZING MACHISMO!”) as out of the darkness comes Razor doing that vintage Bad Guy walk, toothpick and all... now yes, I know it’s so insane to imagine it happening this way but it is hilarious to wonder... because despite the insane idea of this happening as I described we have to admit that knowing how crazy Vince is and how he doesn’t give a f*ck about doing crazy stuff, it’s at least something that could have had a chance of happening LOL hell I could even bet Vince thought of doing it this way and Hall maybe talked him out of it prior.

I really enjoyed watching Shane in WCW and especially in ECW. I would have loved to see the Triple Threat face Degeneration X and Degeneration X get the Triple Threat over in WWF.
@bystandah96266 жыл бұрын
That wouldn't have happened. Come to think of it, all three members of the Triple Threat (Shane Douglas, Chris Candido, and Bam Bam Bigelow)were in the WWF around the same time in 1995 and the Kliq fucked all of them over in different ways.
@kaioh1876 жыл бұрын
Would have been a good payback for what they did to them and it would bring something new to WWF at the time.

Agreed. That would have been good to see.

I've heard enough "Shawn sabotaged our match" stories that I believe that was the sole reason Vince kept him around. And it's not like they're conjecture. And they're not even stories, you can watch the fucking videos and see it; just like shane mentions here. Maybe after Hogan burned him in the 90s Vince decided he needed a pocket ace to keep the big talent in line, so he takes this physically unimpressive wrestler, who dresses like he walked out of a gay western porn and traipses around like a faery, and you just have him start sandbagging guys to get enough reputation that even the fans see it . That's the only explanation for how that guy could sandbag huge names and manage to stay around. He was Vince's insurance policy.
