Since selling off all the infrastructure paid for by tax payers over many years, these companies are operating solely for commercial gain and we the taxpayers will be left with again paying for infrastructure as its lifespan ends. There must be a reinvestment in development of gas and water power mechanisms as all the green energy suggestions are short lived and unable to provide consistent, affordable, reliable power to all.

Great idea but that is not how capitalism works
@food4thortАй бұрын
@@paul.richardson-y1l I know, and I'm pretty libertarian! There is a case though, as I understand it, where in a 'thin market' such as NZ that lacks strong competition (eg banking, supermarkets etc) regulator intervention to counter 'a market negative externality' can be justified.
@lukevanzuilen6848Ай бұрын
@@paul.richardson-y1l Capitalism only works when there are laws that govern how businesses work. It is a good idea because the government owns 50% of Gen Tailors as required by law having them reinvest a minimum percentage before paying dividends will ensure that production grows.

And pretty much all their achievements are arrived at by stealth they haven’t the personal integrity to do what they do out in the open and submit their machinations to the wider public/electorate. In the manner of the attempted privatisation of the entire electrical industry in the 1990s.
@jamescrydeman540Ай бұрын
Good luck with that, the economic right wing have had a pretty free hand since the 1970s with the assistance of Friedman and his disciples. They have become habituated to their selfish ways and thei influence is accentuated by NZs small and easily deluded population. Pandering to big business has been ingrained in NZ since before I came here as a child migrant in the Mid 1950s. The manner in which big companies took a small stake in state/private ventures, let the state take the risk then once established as a profitable venture, quietly buying up the government and other partners shares. Until the national mindset includes an understanding of these details you have some struggle ahead.
