RIP Shane, forever in our hearts. Discovered you at 17. Now 53. Not a week passed without listening to your music and won't stop.

Unfortunately I never seen the Popes but I did see the Pogues in the 80s and very early 90. I think it was either 9 or 10 times. I can't be sure as I spent most of that time drunk. lol

I’m blessed to have opened for both of them 😉😉The Fillmore with the Pogues and an Irish tour with The Popes.

first time I saw him was on this tour, Randalls Island NYC, I was 15, took the train from Boston with my older brother. great stuff. Steve Earle went on before Shane. the crowd was so rowdy before he came out that the promoters had to threaten that Shane wouldn't play if they didn't calm down, hah!!

As a Shane/Pogues fan .... I've never really understood the "Irish" flag kinda thing bearing in mind Shane was born in England 👀
@mick9708 Жыл бұрын
He may have been born in London but his family, heritage and culture are all irish. He sings irish songs in irish bands. What's not to get?

I'm a great fan of The Killers but I've yet to see "American" flags at their gigs 👀 .... I just don't get why people basically fly the Ireland flag at Pogues gigs. Baffles me .... ps I don't mean to offend anyone btw! Like I originally wrote, I'm a massive Shane/Pogues fan with a few tattoos etc but hey each to their to own 🍻
@mick9708 Жыл бұрын
@@mcloving6989 it's Irish trad music, albeit with a rockier style in some songs. A lot of the songs are about Ireland or Irish immigrants. The music is steeped in Irish traditions. The killers are a pop band who happen to be from America, the two are hardly comparable. Sorry but it does seem like an odd question if you know anything about Shane MacGowan or the pogues.

you don't understand Irish nationalism?
