I could not agree more. His work with the Popes is often overlooked, they are nowhere close to the musicians that the Pogues were but Shane wrote some of his most heartfelt songs at this time. A genius, plain and simple.

Homeless drunks frozen to death overnight, the suffering of children in Palestine (always so sadly relevant), an alcoholic father and the electric gone out on Christmas Day because he bought some cheap fairy lights, and yet so uplifting and full of love, compassion and hope. What a special talent he was. Beats that other song hands down, and I really don't do Christmas.
