It's amazing how Shane studies the rack of balls and can decide where to and how hard to break the balls. Most pros just break from the same spot if it is working or they move it around. Shane can look at the balls and knows where to break from. He was moving the ball around on each break and on one occasion gave it extra power.

He's just checking to make sure the rack is tight.
@dcam17602 жыл бұрын
@@nakkadu yes, he is checking if it's tight, but also by checking you can see which pattern of balls in that exact rack make the best/most contact, which then allows for him to know which side to break from as well as which ball/side of ball to hit first. When you practice the break as much as Shane does it eventually becomes a science 99.9% of us will never truly understand.
@RichardsWorld Жыл бұрын
@@nakkadu No, some players can tell what's going to happen. I know the break shot sounds like luck and chance, but a few players can study the rack and know what's going to happen if it isn't racked perfect. If it is racked perfect than they can do their standard break. If the balls aren't racked perfect you can sometimes use it to your advantage. Some Players such as Corey Deuel used to rack the balls not perfect in a certain way to always make something.

Alternate breaks is the only way to give any semblance of an even chance to each player, especially when the players are at this level, and even more so in short sets. Players of SVB's calibre are capable of running 7 racks in a row. So, ........
@Salty80556 Жыл бұрын
@@dougoverhoff7568 Why and what sense does it make for an inferior player to think he should be even with a superior player? Alternate breaks were only implemented for TV ratings. Professional pool is NOT and never should be a handicapped event.
@dougoverhoff7568 Жыл бұрын
@@Salty80556 What are you talking about? I never said it was a method for the equalization of their skills. My point is simply that today's top players can run multiple racks, and to such an extent, that one player may never even see the table! What kind of competition is that? Alternate breaks will at least give each player an equal opportunity at the table, and it does not make for an equality of their skills. I've seen and heard of players running racks as high as ten in succession, or more. How then, is a race to 5, or even 7, supposed to decide who is the superior player? Really? They might as well flip a coin, and call it good. 🤗
@dougoverhoff7568 Жыл бұрын
@@Salty80556 And one more thing. Why, if there shouldn't be any handicapping in pro pool, do they track all of their skill levels with ratings, such as Fargo? What's the point? And, FYI, handicapping has ALWAYS been a part of gambling amongst the top players....it's called giving the weaker opponent weight. They do that because they recognize that one player's skills are NOT always equal to their opponent's. So, are you seeking to see true competition? Or are you simply interested in always seeing a few top players winning in nearly every event? That wouldn't be good for the sport, much less be good for the TV.

As far as I can tell, the Marketing Profession is unhinged, delusional, profoundly lacking in ethics. What they think is reasonable is several times what consumers will bear, especially over the long term. Marketing killed TV when the time dedicated to Ads was close, if not nearly exceeding how long the shows were. More than 50% of Internet traffic is Ads, Spam, etc. Visual pollution is WAY out of hand and I'm certainly not enthused about Augmented Reality as I am certain it will be 90%+ advertising.

You are discounting the pressure(s) of playing in front of a video camera, live audience, larger pro billiards community, economic stress (this is their profession/career and winning/losing can dramatically affect their bottom line which is significant as cue sports doesn't pay especially well, even for those at the very top), etc. There is a reason there exists the profession of Sports Psychologists, and why affluent sports (most of them team sports) make such available for their players. However, those don't come cheap and billiard players just need to figure it out/work it out for themselves, and it's normally not a team sport, so there is no support from team mates. Finally, most professional sports players don't have such a direct/straightforward connection between performance and pay. While I'm sure that SVB has contracts with sponsors, his take home from winning tournaments is a large part of his income.
