Thank you. This video put into perspective how much I need to step up my game. I'm 2 years into my build, and if I maintain my current pace I'll be driving it in about 37 years.

This brings back the pain endured for three years while building a ground-up '34 coupe. Thanks. Seriously, this dissuades me from getting a kit car. At 69 yo, I no longer want pretzelize my body in order to stick my head under the dash. And the realization that life is getting shorter makes me want to get something already built. But I applaud anyone who does it this way...you'll know everything about your car. Not many of us can say that.

Great video. I couldn't imagine counting all of the beers that must have been " used" in the build. Good on you for documenting this immense undertaking. You will undoubtedly look back on this in your later years and wonder if you could do it again. I know I have. Enjoy the memories. BTW, do you have a cost total? Inquiring minds need to know.

A bulletproof coating that looks really cool is "Steel -IT." You can weld right to the paint.

Congratulations. Incredible job. Great result. Thanks for the sound that was music to my ears. Did you hang a security camera type of thing to shoot photos at some interval based on a motion sensor? It seemed like that. However you did it, it looked good, btw. And, considering the time stamps in all the images, did you add up all the hours recorded there? I thought the idea to start driving it when road legal (in gel coat) was a great idea. It would have been difficult, I guess, motivationally, to keep working for about 4 years without driving that car. Oh, I missed one music instrument in the final finale ...
@shaneapowell4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Was a total blast to build. The footage is all from my in-garage security camera. You can see the transition in the video when I switched to a newer model. I just had my server setup with a simple cron job to pull an image from the security camera every 15 seconds. Then, just a matter of building the final video from the few thousand images. Not too hard. oh and.. driving in gelcoat was a smart move.. helped me find a few small issues and tweaks along the way before final paint.

Excellent job! My only question is what was wrong with the body that required all of that body work? I thought the body that Factory 5 provides is supposed to be pristine. I'm just a collision repair student and I want to learn as much as I can. Thank you👍🏻
@shaneapowell3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is anything wrong with the body... if anything.. it's simply my not knowing "how far" to take any given sanding step. I'm sure that body-work experts would have hammered it out in a fraction the time. I simply didn't want to "not go far enough", which I'm sure resulted in my "going a bit too far".

The full kit does.. everything except Engine and Trans I think. I got the base kit. Sourced all the extra stuff myself. Which, was almost 1/2 the fun.

Shane Powell as long as the engine fit the frame kit, does it mean that i can use any engine from any brand (Toyota, Honda, Ford, etc) on this kit?
@shaneapowell4 жыл бұрын
@@florencekartini6544 Pretty much .. yeah. You'll have to make some modifications along the way, and the driveshaft length could be an issue, but no reason you couldn't get nearly anything under that hood.

What did you use for the chassis coating?
@shaneapowell4 жыл бұрын
It was just Rustoleum paint. It was the 1 thing I did wrong. Though, I think the paint itself is actually fine. I also used it on the rear axle and fuel tank. The paint on those is holding up perfectly! The difference is I used the Rustoleum primer on the chassis. For some reason, the black paint more easily chips off of the primer than it does on the bare metal. In Hind-Site.. I should have powder coated it.

just out of curiosity, what kind of experience did you have? im thinking of building the 818 but im not sure whether i have the experience to do it.
@shaneapowell4 жыл бұрын
I've been wrenching on cars all my life. I'm no where near a expert, but pretty knowledgeable. Rebuilt motors and Trans, built a dirt track race car. Fabricated a Supercharger for my Impreza. IMO, anybody confident enough to take a "ready to run" motor, trans, rear end, and brakes,... assemble those parts, install them, and make all necessary tweaks and adjustments along the way, should have the skills to build a F5.
