Great tips as always Shane. The only thing I'd add is that if you are someone like me, who started out using the cheaper, portable / mobile pocket hole jigs, then the face clamp is not just useful, IT'S A MUST. Mobile pocket hole jigs are notorious for moving unless well clamped when drilling and the face clamp jig makes light work of this. Strongly recommended for those using mobile jigs.

Great tips. I didn't know about the threads. Worth mentioning too is to use screws that are flat under the head and not tapered. When I bought my first very simple Wolfcraft Undercover Jig they included sample screws that were all tapered which is ridiculous. If you tighten the screw to har the wood will crack. I had looked at videos similar to this one and knew not to use them but it is insulting really. I wrote to wolfcraft complaining about it but never even got an answer.

Super helpful video that came up when I was looking for tips for doing pocket holes in MDF. One question that I cannot seem to find an answer to on the internet. If I’m doing a T joint, for example when adding a vertical partition between two shelves, is there any benefit or downside to doing pocket holes from both sides of the partition? The way my engineering brain see it, instead of having screws just in one angle, you’ve got them making an X across the joint. Provided they’re spaced appropriately, it seems like that should provide for a stronger joint. But how things play out in real life doesn’t always align with how they seem on paper.

Thanks for this video, it explains a lot. It would be good to know how to measure the wood and where to put the holes and then what screws to use. Also if you are attaching hardwood (say a worktop) to softwood (say the legs of a worktop), which screws would be best? And do you have to use pocket hole screws for the job?
@diyforknuckleheads3 ай бұрын
No worries mate. In regard to attaching hardwood to softwood, use a finer thread screw if it's going into hardwood and a courser thread screw if screwing into softwood. As far as the screws go you do need pocket hole specific screws. Normal screws won't work 👍

For those who really want to avoid the joint creep and want a stronger pocket-hole joint - and have the budget. . . Consider the Castle pocket-hole cutters. The Castle 110 is the least expensive (but not at all cheap) and will give you a 3-degree angle rather than the more typical 15-degree - and that is a good thing.

I was looking for how you set the proper depth to drill a pocket hole for one inch piece of wood. Is there a setting on the special bit that come with the jig set when you buy it? How does a person figure out how far to drill in to not blow through the other side? And also how do I know other than the thread what screw lengths to use to join the joint or put in the pocket hole? Didn’t answer any of these questions sadly!
@diyforknuckleheads5 ай бұрын
