@@ShaneCreates I am! Bit of drama getting them all working though. One blind had a DOA motor (replacement motor arrived this week; turns out there is a homekit code on the motor itself and not just on the pull cord), one I had to get some special instructions to get them paired to homekit to get the top/limits working properly, a couple more required a bit of pairing/re-pairing to get them working, but I've now got 11 shades all online and working. They can take up to 5s to respond (due to thread sleep time) but they haven't missed a beat!

Great video, Shane! Please give us an update down the road, as to reliability, etc. Thread is intriguing to me, but I’m feeling rather gun shy about it now. I wanted to love my Nanoleaf bulbs & lightstrips, but they keep losing their Thread connection. When this happens, they revert to Bluetooth, which is sooooo slow. For some reason, last night, all 12 of my Nanoleaf’s switched over to Bluetooth. When I hit my bedtime scene, it took over 2 1/2 minutes to respond, just to turn off the bedroom lamps. This was the same whether through Home app or Nanoleaf app. Sigh…. I’m really hoping that other Thread devices / manufacturers can do better.

Shane, great video as always. When you said you were going to release a video this week instead of Sunday, I didn't realize you meant the next day! I thought we were going to have to wait several days before this posted. Glad to see you got it out so quickly. Looking forward to another video in the future to let us know the long-term review of these shade and how they have held up against your Lutron shades. I am a bit surprised by how long it was taking from the time you pressed the button on your phone, until the time the motor actually started moving. That was like BluTooth speed. Is there a delay when you use the manual pull cord? Also, could you do a sound comparison using a sound meter and show the difference in dB comparing Lutron, Eve, and Ikea shade motors? And any others if you have them. It would be nice to know exactly what the difference was in the amount of noise each motor makes.
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frederick! No, there is not a delay when using the pull cord. And yes, there is a bit of a delay sometimes when using HomeKit. It's not terrible and sometimes it's faster and sometimes a little slower. I wanted to include that clip just to show that. And thanks for the suggestion. I don't have the ikea shades anymore (returned them a long time ago). But a sound meter test for what I do have is a good idea.

Hi Shane. Great review... and perfect timing as I am in the process of replacing all of the 100+ year old windows in my house and will need new window treatments. That said, one thing you didn't seem to cover was actual manual control. The physical control (pull cord) seems to instruct the motor, but what happens if the motor stops working you discover you forgot to recharge because it stopped--and you want to raise or lower your shades? (or is that when you would use the mounting tabs to remove the shade until repair is effected?)
@ShaneCreates2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan. There isn't another way to control the shades. Just the pull cord and using the app or homekit. You can still use the shades when it's plugged in as long as you can reach an outlet.

The light leak on the sides is simply a result of inside-mounted shades. You will get this with any shades. You can buy light blockers that attach to the sides of the windows that will cover this. Many shade manufacturers offer this as an option when you order your shades. I know Smart Wings does, among others. I recently made a video on Smart Wings shades also.

The replacement blinds had the same issue, however I was able to fix/reset them with an undocumented reset trick (pulling cord + pressing reset button at the same time) provided by the reseller. Now one of the working blinds went into the same buggy state so it can’t be controlled via app, hard reset does not succeed and the special reset trick does not fix it either. Expensive garbage. Eve claims there are no known issues but then again they also claimed there was no other way to reset the blinds.

So thread isn’t the future? Wtf why did they hype that up and offer so much just to change it again?
@Polkster132 жыл бұрын
Thread is a wireless communication using radio frequencies like WiFi, BluTooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave, ClearConnect, and so forth. These are the communication frequencies used to communicate between devices. Matter is the software protocol that allows the devices to understand each other. Think of it as Thread is your Cell Phone that allows you to call other users. Matter is the language that you use to talk to each other. I may be speaking English, but if you can only understand French, then even though you have called me on your cell phone, we cannot understand each other. Matter is supposed to be a universal language that will allow products from many different vendors to "understand" each other and to play together regardless of which wireless communication you use to reach those devices. So Thread is an important foundation part of the Matter Protocol.
