I have been a Respiratory Therapist for years and love it! It pays very well, especially after several years. I don't have total responsibility for the patient and am asked to consult, work in emergencies, etc. We are also ACLS, PALS and NRP. Would highly recommend a BA and higher, too. RTs never get mentioned, but I love the autonomy of the field. I also worked in Saudi for two years. Currently I am working in a small hospital PART TIME and making around 80K a year with benefits. I can also pick up extra days for over 100 an hour.

I just recently discovered what a Clinical Perfusionist is and their starting salary is at around 130K and can greatly go up from there…plus you just need a 2 year masters in perfusion (your bachelors can be in anything as long as you get the prerequisites) to become one and you pretty much can start working after getting your masters.

Im really interested in pharmacy (more specifically pharmacology) but there isn’t any good videos that go in depth like yours, especially since you’re in the field. Would appreciate it if you could give me your feedback on how you feel about the career and if it’s worth getting into.

Pharmacy is a good field. You need a bachelors first before going into Pharmacy school. Or you can get a Bachelors in Pharmacology and them go to Pharmacy school to get your PharmD . Goodluck
@StevenKN2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mason, just finished pharmacy school here. Congrats on finishing your Marine Training. It seems you are interested in the research portion of pharmacology. You must first understand that a pharmacist and a pharmacologist are two different routes of study. One is a practitioner (PharmD) the latter being a researcher (PhD in Pharmacology or Toxicology). Depending on the school you may not even need a bachelors, I went to UMKC, and did not need it, if you prioritize get out of school to work sooner. However, the Phd route may require it. As for if it worth getting into, that is up to you on what you value. What you value isn’t the same what Shane values. If you value a predictable workflow,clock-in/out , making sure insurance claims are fulfilled and get that paycheck. Retail could work. Get more clinical, do some IVs, calculating rates of flow. Hospital could be the path. (However would require a residency to become a specialist in a specific field of pharmacology, and is much more competitive.) Those are the two main fields that make it up a majority of jobs. Then there are the niches: compounding, nuclear, veterinary, etc. Job outlook wise, and I think Shane mentioned, it is not looking good compared to other health field or fields in general. -3% job growth. Most jobs are in retail for a pharmacist, probably 20-25% in hospital, slowly decreasing. In terms of the law as of now as well, we are also limited in our practice, as our profession isn’t recognized culturally as we are usually in the background. For example, I work in a adult Daycare, and the law requires a nurse must handle a care plan, when I am fully capable/ trained in monitoring care and have a better understanding of medications and their side effects. Tl:dr Like predictability, can handle insurance, handle customers and like fast pace, do retail. Want to work IVs, calculations, limited patient interaction, answer more questions on medications. Hospital, though must be top of your game, work harder, and still paid the same as retail maybe less so another person won’t take your position. Good luck

Also, to add one thing: How do you determine a useless degree? I like your videos because you give a well-balanced analysis of various different degrees. IMHO, any degree that you rank to be less than 8/10 has red flags to look out for. They can be overcome if you learned basic programming and accounting and had excellent internships. Effectively building a resume that will look attractive to employers. Also, graduate degrees in areas like law, MBA, medical, dental, or any professional program would help.

NPs and PAs can usually work the exact same jobs, so technically the salary should be equivalent to that of an NP and should be on this list. PAs have much more job flexibility though with which you can change from one specialty to another, so I'd say it's a better job. However, becoming a PA is also quite harder than becoming an NP
@Liam69400 Жыл бұрын

I think you should do a video on the different roles for nurses at the graduate level. A lot of people are confused about what a masters or doctorate in nursing actually is. It is not automatically to be a nurse practitioner. Between NPs, CRNAs, CNSs, nurse educators, nurse administrators, or just masters level nurses who do very specialized clinical work (like forensics), there is a lot to unpack about what education is available as a nurse.

@adr775102 жыл бұрын
It isn't excessive money when you realize what they're doing. If you lower the salaries of these incredibly stressful jobs, there will be little incentive for people to go after them and we will have nurse and physician shortages. If a doctor made only as much as a software engineer, why would anyone want to be a doctor knowing that they could just go to 4 years of college and enjoy a cushy lifestyle as a SE. Doctors, nurses, PAs, and all the medical staff as a whole, 100% deserve what they make.
