Variety is the spice of life, and I love that Marvel is embracing all the different shades of life, in their films. It improves the quality of the art and product, exponentially and immeasurably.

It is so cool that the minority and the different races have a special fictional home. Like Wakanda and the special realm that Shang and his people live in. It is also cool how they have special parts for everyone.

I like that their throwing Shang Chi right into fire, as far as the Avengers team, he was associated with Heroes for Hire with Luke Cage and Iron Fist. I'm looking forward to his teamup with Spiderman, to help Peter become a better hero. Another thing this, if that Soul Eater creature is related to Nightmare, which made Mandarin hear voices of his wife voice, seeing WandaVision post credit scene with her hearing her children voices, could this be connected?

The guy who was the archery master in the movie was the husband of the landlady in Kung Fu Hustle and he actually grew up with Jackie Chan in the same performing/ martial arts school when they were kids as well as other big Hong Kong action stars. His name is Yuen Wah. And the Jackie Chan stunt team did the stunts for the movie that’s why some scenes remind you of some Jackie Chan fights. And the stunt choreographer of the movie was by Brad Allen who was the first Caucasian/Australian male to be on Jackie’s stunt team. He’s coordinated the Kingsman movies, Hellboy 2, Rush Hour 3 and so much more. Sadly Brad passed some weeks ago before the red carpet premiere of Shang Chi so R.I.P. to him and condolences to his family and friends 🙏🏾

Just like IW and ca:winter soldier, this movie was less about the protagonist and more about the antagonist and his journey. Wenwu was the heart of the movie and the portrayal by Tony Leung the legend himself was just perfect.

Saw it twice and loved every moment. Maybe I was just really into it but it didn't feel like 2 hours to me.

I really liked the whole "rigid" vs "flowy" style that they went with to showcase the difference between the styles that Shang-Chi's dad and mum had. The closed fists were more ruthless and aggressive, and the other was more defensive and graceful. In particular when Shang-Chi first got some of the rings and they were floating around him they were like a defensive shield/barrier of some sort, rather than when his dad was using the rings, he was using them more as a weapon. The parents' first meeting and fight was gorgeous, the fight itself was a dance like you guys said, and the way they were looking at each other, it also felt like a mating dance in a sense. She truly changed his life and way of seeing things, he was a way more interesting character than I was expecting (I thought he'd be the typical baddie mafia boss that's chasing them throughout the movie or something). The fights' choreography was amazing in general! Especially the fight in the bus blew me away and got me really hyped for the rest (the maneuver where Shang-Chi took off his jacket and then put it back on was my favourite lmao). His sister was a badass, I liked how she actually had a significant part in the movie, a lot of things felt like both siblings were going through them and not just Shang-Chi alone which would overshadow his sister a bit if that was the case. I'm mad we didn't get to see the Carol/Bruce credit scene where we went, they skipped the credits straight to the last scene about the ten rings.. And yeah, I really appreciated that there were major, and lengthy, scenes, where they only spoke Chinese and no English at all. Pretty much everything here gets subtitled anyway so we're used to reading subs, but anyway, it does annoy me a bit when they have characters speak a bit of their own language and then switch to English for the rest of the scene, like, why would they even do that irl, it makes no sense for them to do that. I might be remembering wrong but I don't think that Shang-Chi's mum said anything in English, which is cool since she had plenty of dialogue and was pretty important to the story. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and now I'm excited to see more of Shang-Chi in the future, and Eternals coming up in a couple of months (of course there's also Venom next month, although it's not MCU).

I love this movie from the fight scenes to the mythical creatures it was just wonderful. And in the comics the Mandarin his rings came from the aliens called the Makluans which are alien Dragons like fun fang foom and the reason why the Mandarin can use case he has Makluans DNA. In the comics, the Mandarin's "10 Rings" are from K'un-Lun, the lost city in Iron Fist mythology. However, K'un-Lun is actually an immense alien starship that crased on Earth thousands of years, that disappears into another dimension most of the time. So the Rings have sci-fi and mystical links - a bit like the Infinity Stones. Marvel may change the Rings' origin for the MCU.

It easily made it into my top 10 (#6)! I lived it. I'm a fan of martial arts films and this gave me all the feels like when I saw "Hero" and "House of the Flying Daggers". I was on the edge of my seat watching it. The action was 🔥. The cast was wonderful. This is was first movie I've gone to and taken my son to since COVID hit. It wasn't wasted. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I loved this review! I'm with yall, this movie was REALLY good. But quick question: can we assume that this movie is taking place about 10 months post-Blip? If FFH was 9 months, and we see Wong leaving for this fight in the NWH trailer, I can't imagine NWH takes place TOO long after FFH. Still not an exact time (Wong could be going somewhere else in the trailer, he could have been fighting in the fight club for months, etc.) but it can give us something to latch on to.

The false Mandarin was broken out to be killed but because Shang-Chi's father was impressed by his acting, he was jailed rather than killed. Also, did you notice of one Adrian's former goon and a lost Black Widow fighting in the cage? Marvel went way back to correct mistakes but I think the ancient one is the one they can't correct.

The Eternals probably takes place within a week of Endgame, as the Blip powers the Emergence and events of that movie. Shang Chi supposedly takes place around Spiderman: No Way Home, which is a few weeks to a couple months after Endgame, and around the events of WandaVision and Loki. So those three projects, happen within weeks of each other, and lead into Spiderman: No Way Home and then Dr. Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness.

I think(hope) Marvel is sticking with the colors of magic. I think Shang-Chi and his mom activated a similar magic in the rings as those that Earth's sorcerers use (yellow), thus why they "felt" him use it. The rings are supposed to have 10 diff powers which I hope/assume is them tapping into 10 diff kinds of magical energy. Lokis have green magic, Wanda has red/chaos, Billy had a blue magic, Agatha had purple. It's my own theory, I have no basis for it. I just think that'd be hella cool to explore the colors of magic.

I figured Shang-Chi and Xialing were in their mid to late 20s based off the convos they were having. Xialing said she was 16 when she left to start her own business and I think Shang-Chi is like a year or 2 older than her! like maybe 28 and 26.

Loved the movie. You know how some of the Avengers have been getting Wakandan upgrades? We need to see Shang-Chi upgrade their fighting skills. I’m also really glad the movie crushed low expectations. Record breaking Labor Day weekend debut is wee deserved. My top theory about the Rings is that they’re a beacon for Galactus. Second is a beacon for The Living Tribunal. Shang-Chi ‘may’ be the best but he’s only been able to fight my Queen Elektra to a draw. I look forward to her MCU debut kicking his ass!
