There are myriad opinions on the purpose and impact of Shang-chi in the MCU development. But I'm happy to hear how the sheer power of Tony Leung Chui-wai's acting ability cuts through it all; he's being appreciated as an actor.

It's absolutely true. There are scenes in the film where less dialogue is present than you'd expect, but then realize it's not necessary, yet he manages to convey the emotions regardless. Subtle but effective.

Isn't it another Hollywood stereotype portraying Russia or China as the bad guy and making their audience believed the US is the good guy by saving the world from the bad guys? Imagine Russia had brought out films about US-Afgan war costing over $ 2.26 trillion with $6.5 trillion yet to come for US taxpayers or about Snowden’s running away from America because he’s exposed US war crimes and massive NSA surveillance program fled to Russia and still faces US espionage charges. Would American rush to the cinemas to see these kind of films? “You can’t even turn the TV on and go to the cinemas without reference to Russians or Chinese as horrible,” says US-based Russian-American professor. But we’re expected to believe China and Russia are the threat for the world the US intends to defend the "rules-based order" that Russia and China are posing a challenge to.

Just saw this movie and ngl I think this might be my new favorite mcu movie. I'm a big defender of the mcu movies but this movie was so different it made me realize a lot of people are right about one thing. The marvel movies tend to feel somewhat similar and this just felt so different. It was a breath of fresh air I didnt know I needed. I wasn't bored for a second and I feel like the exposition was done in a way that was extremely engaging. I was genuinely very shocked by how much I loved this movie.

15:48 - 15:59 Greg, you talking about the “pain in his eyes” and the camera holding on the looks he gives reminds me of a video I watched last night from Accented Cinema where they talk about how Tony Leung acts with eyes and says everything he needs to with little or no dialogue. Knowing that the people involved in this film recognized that particular talent and utilized it fully in this film has me even more excited to see what he does.

You could say performance, but story? Leung was just “wife dead > must wear rings” and then they just essentially effected his mind. Not too mention the continuity errors that accosted to the arrival of such a character so late into the MCU. I have no issue if you PREFER Leung, but in regards to the better “villain” Thanos won’t be bested for a long time judging the state of the MCU.

Tony’s acting was so Charismatic, his interpretation of this Villain in this Marvel story was superb! 👏👏👏👍👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Awkwafina and Fala Chen were awesome. Love them both. Finally your review since I was waiting for your thoughts on this film. Really sad that this and The King's Man are Bradley James Allen's final works. You can sense it was Jackie Chan inspired with the fighting style where Shang-Chi uses the environment as his weapon to fight of his enemies but you also get emotional content with the action which the trailers have teased. The latest trailer they released online was very action oriented and you see different fighting styles throughout the trailer.

Hey, Greg and John, I just got out of my second viewing of Shang-Chi (SOOO fantastic! and, yeah, all the dragon stuff IS awesome!) and I have some Spiderman No Way Home news…the trailer WITH a few additional parts of scenes showed before the IMAX showing and no NWH trailer before the 2D showing. They showed part of the face of the guy in the white shirt (among other things). Have Michael or Warren or Erik said anything about that? Will there be a breakdown of the additional items in that trailer?

@jjfratt There were a few extra seconds on some of the scenes (I can’t think of specifics - so no other Spideys…yet, but definitely a bit more to scenes) like a bit of dialogue and such. The main thing that stuck out was they show part of the guy’s face (the one in the white shirt who people wonder whether is Charlie Cox or not). I was planning on focusing more on what he looked like when I saw it again, but the 2D version didn’t have NWH as a Marvel trailer (only The Eternals). That’s why I was asking - because I, too, thought the internet would have been all over that as well. He had a trimmed beard…I did see that.

This is all music to my ears , A film well worth the price of admission and to hear that they served one of my favourite comic book villains well to a level of elevating him is even better! I just purchased his figure from Forbidden Planet to and of course how good is it to see Coy in front of the camera again. good stuff lads

I will watch it again because i want to see every detail i missed the 1st time, i enjoyed it and i loved to see Tony Leung in a Marvel movie, all the actors were good just as the action scenes. My favorite funny/iconic scene was with Wong at the end, i think this movie is at the same level as Doctor Strange, it is not like 10/10 but a solid 7/10, if you like Marvel movies you must watch it.

Julian Wooten I have deep respect for your channel. I found it when I was looking for other folks out there that watched The Boys. No one I knew watched it, and I was curious how other people received the irreverent, blood soaked soap opera that is the show. I hope the growing success of your channel and business partnerships won't compromise the honesty and integrity of your reviews. Authenticity is the foundation of your success. That said, Shang-Chi is not a great movie. To suggest otherwise is disingenuous. It is a good movie with a strong first half, compelling villains, stunning visuals, great soundtrack, and much needed Asian representation. The movie's glaring weaknesses are gratuitous CGI, excessive flashbacks to a burdensome backstory, pacing issues in the Third Act, a leading man (Simu Liu) that lacks the star power of a Thor, Captain America, or Dr Strange, an overexposed Awkafina, failure to tell what the Rings actually do, etc. This was a surprisingly messy entry from Marvel. Overall good but far from great

Tony Leung as Wenwu aka The Mandarin aka Fu Manchu, easily carried the entire movie, without Tony Leungs acting, Shang-chi would have been a mediocre movie, even with all the action and CGI. Tony Leung is considered as the Robert Deniro or Al Pacino of Asia, yes he is THAT good!

Just got out of the theatre. I LOVED IT! I would really love if there was an option for when this comes out on DVD to watch this film entirely in Mandarin. I think it would be amazing. 9/10 for me.

I watched it last night so now I'm coming to you guys and I agree, agree, agree. I enjoyed this movie SO MUCH, specially because of the characters and their dynamics, 'cause if we think about it, this really is the story of the whole family, starting with the father as a protagonist and ending with the son. I loved every bit of it, and the third act? WOW, I really was at the edge of my seat! I never thought I'd see a movie with these visuals being done with SO MUCH respect and in such quality. I also agree that the more I think about it, the more I like it asdfg I think I'll go watch it again, actually!
