But you can bet 99-1 that whatever meat they are selling for ¥1/$0.13, is not what they are advertising on the tin. You can only hope that whatever substance you're consuming is, at least, fit for human consumption; that its non-toxic; and it isn't rancid or rotting... or worse. These Red Chinese know all about getting a good price, but they really have no understanding of the concept of "value".

Problem then is getting real meats, that's when countryside contacts and connection can help, again private market... Fish probably is the best option if you can find a pond lake or river that's not extremely polluted

There are just not enough farming land in China despite China is huge. Tbh I was surprised af to learn that Japan and Korea having far more suitable farms than China despite they are like 30 times smaller countries. The extreme lacking in farmland of China doesn’t even start with CCP. It has been like this for dozen centuries. There is a reason why famine hits China like every few decades.
