I've just watched the Netflix documentary on this case. It was very good. I knew she was dead when her mum said she hadn't seen her in over a year. And no one seemed to have seen her. Liz Golyer was then the only person that could have been doing the harassing (as strange as it seemed). The Police should have done far more to try to track Cari down as a Missing person but they assumed that because there were messages from her phone that she was alive.
@kallenyc9 ай бұрын
💯 If you Google the case and read the article about key pieces of information not in the documentary, you'll see that Golyar sent Cari's job a resignation email (as Cari) and named Shanna Golyar (her real name) as her replacement. How could the cops have overlooked this? Mayberry bumbos. If the 2nd team hadn't taken the case on, it never would have been solved. He served his sentence and is now out of prison but he has said that she called him at work and told him that she accidentally dropped the baby. Idk.. I thought that joke was pretty tasteless. I don’t like sarcastic or snarky comments involving anyone who isn’t the “villain” in these analysis videos; even if it’s supposed to be a “joke”. The snide comments about Anna Nicole Smith in her video really rubbed me the wrong way and I felt like the joke about “no homicidal stalker” checkbox was unnecessary and kinda cruel. The guy didn’t know how mentally ill and unstable Goylar was and he didn’t do anything to warrant any of her actions against himself, others, and even animals in her pursuit of keeping him in her life. I don’t know if he carries any guilt from what happened but regardless, it wasn’t his fault for trying to find love online and for assuming that his dates were not going to be murderous stalkers. That being said; I do laugh at the jabs he makes at the obviously bad people in the videos as long as the jokes aren’t making fun of their appearance or any type of handicap/disability (which to my knowledge, Dr Grande has never done). I know I sound like such a party pooper but the snark in this video really did bother me and your comment was the first one that mentioned the specific joke so I felt like you’d be a good person to share my feelings with. Seems simple enough.What really baffles me is Liz had a boyfriend he never noticed anything? And...even tho he didnt know Cari well he knew Liz well enough to see this crazy behavior was like the crazy things Liz had said and done prior to Cari. I'm glad she finally got caught. When she shot herself she didnt have evidence on her body? Powder burns or whatever.

You know, I seriously wonder why there isn't some sort of background check on dating sites; given the average age of app maker (late 20s-early 30s), that definitely should be a concern. I've read of several cases of stalkers using apps for their new playground. John Meehan scared the heck out of me. The stalkers haven't changed, just the way the find and trick their victims.

I'm sorry but I don't understand the relevance of this on this video. Wasn't a good chunk of Dr. Grande's analysis about the fact that she seemed "completely unremarkable, didn't stand out in a negative way"? What difference would a background have made?
@Redmanticore3 жыл бұрын
extensive background checks are costly. people wouldn't agree to them. go ahead, make a dating site that demands real life many months-long taking background check, and see how many registers. I guess in theory you could make a minimal background check automatic if the government database on prison records opened up to dating sites. though I imagine only china would allow such public privacy disregards.
@thebest127003 жыл бұрын
that would be too much work. and dating sites are mostly full of odd individuals so it would be pointless

I think the motive to murder is that, unlike the other women Dave dated, Carri was the one who moved in with Dave, albeit temporary. This could have ramped up Liz jealousy to homicide.

Many years back, I was in an abusive relationship, and my ex used to get on my phone and make posts on social media, pretending to be me, and send threatening texts to any male friend, blocking anyone he seemed a threat. Then, he would text everyone I knew, pretending to be me: My mom, my son, sister, my best friend. They ALL could tell immediately that it wasn't me, especially my mom, who asked him questions only I would know the answer too!

This is such a sad, yet fascinating case. Real life is SO much stranger than fiction, is it not? Psychotherapy, psychotherapy, it’s what they’re give to me...you are so right about not making sense, and so much planning-yes...a full-time job. It’s almost as if she couldn’t stop the enjoyment she seemed to get from this; she seems determined to continue the murder, for years on end-I think you described this as an addiction. Why Cari-could her decision to murder her been so spontaneous to be sparked by a few-minute meeting at Dave’s front door? I saw a documentary on this case and found it interesting that they described the photos she had taken of the victims legs and tattoos as ‘trophies’. So tell me, is it just as common for women to engage in this type of behavior as men? What is behind the significance of that, especially when the discovery of those items would, in all likelihood, seal their fate? Is it to simply relive the crime at any cost? Dr. G., your take on this was, as is your usual-very interesting and right on. I agree that she most likely would have gotten away with it (not that I’m supporting her in this endeavor) had she simply moved on. But, again, she seemed unable to let the deed rest. I think it should also encourage anyone who dabbles in on-line dating (or ANY dating, I suppose!) to put a potential ‘match’ under very severe scrutiny before pursuing the individual. It really shines a light on that when you consider that Dave even commenced seeing Liz AFTER she had killed Cari. One would think he must have noticed some sort of instability throughout the years he maintained a relationship with her. There appears to be so many attention-seeking behaviors going on that are particularly disturbing to me; the setting of the fire that she must have known would result in the demise of her dog and other pets, and shooting herself. Both would certainly seem to garner sympathy and cement the role of victim for her. I wonder if this is the goal or just a perk that she finds as beneficial? Geez, this woman needs help, huh? She undoubtedly needs to be kept separate from the rest of society for the remainder of her life but would also a great case study for law enforcement. Forgive my lengthy comment. Getting to the point is not one of my strong suits. I do wish safety to all and Happy Holidays!

I have stalkers. I am leaving social media in the new year. I am wondering if that's the best idea after seeing this. knowing that your identity can be manipulated by criminals & murderers is scary & unnerving. Part of the reason why I wish to leave, I just can't handle the voyeurs anymore. Im hoping to lessen the paranoia of my own personality & somewhat enjoy life again without that feeling of someone's always watching & they really do hate you. But mostly it's just started to eat into my time like an addiction & I want to be free from that. I guess since i only use one platform, I can leave the platform I use without worrying bc when I left other ones it was fine.

Interesting view; I just attended a review of this murder a few minutes ago and found this while researching it further. I would take exception with Dr. Grande's opinion regarding the police investigation. It was the detectives and investigators of a smaller rural sheriff's office who took the initiative and re-opened a missing persons case to followed it up, rather than just dismissing the victim, Cari Farver as a person with a mental health issues (she did), who chose to disappear (check out the number of people reported missing every month just in the city of Los Angeles). Interviews, searches, reviewing physical, DNA and digital evidence (lots and lots of digital evidence) and the forensics associated with evaluating them, take time, but in the end, they were able to identify this murder. Consider this, the police put together a case, with which a prosecutor was able to obtain a conviction. This was done without either a body or a weapon. How often does that happen? However I do concur, this murders has severe mental health issues and may be responsible for another death in her past (that is still being investigated).

Here’s what stands out to me about Golyar- I agree the entitlement to harass is huge, playing the victim and demonstrating dramatic (fake) harassment of herself gave her a high and she became compulsive, she was really comfortable with having this stalker and phony stalker sides hidden, and eventually she didn’t have enough self awareness to know it wasn’t anything that could stay hidden forever, it was a fun game to continue playing for years and even if she didn’t initially commit murder she probably would’ve continued this kind of harassment and phony role playing kind of self-harassment for as long as she was witnessing a reaction from everyone including Cari’s family and Dave and his friends. And once the police got involved she fed that angle more and more, too. If people just ignored it she might’ve actually stopped and then they wouldn’t have found out about Cari’s murder. The whole scheme wasn’t only born out of jealousy but was also born out of a desire to create dramatic attention on herself yet hide behind these other personas so that she could take advantage of victimhood

It takes a wicked, black heart to imitate a murder victim to their friends and family for years, taunt and insult them for doubting you and try to frame them for all your wrongdoing. The lesson here is: if you receive a text from a loved one telling you they're suddenly leaving out of nowhere, call the police and don't accept anymore texts, only phone calls.
