Yeah it's hard for a Westerner artist to success in Korea. Just like it's hard for an Asian artist to success in US-UK. I think Jeon Somi of JYP was feeling the same before. But JYPE have more experience than many other agencies about how to work with these foreigners and make them become stars, they know how to make Korean audiences accept them so that Somi had the chance to prove it following JYP's formula. I hope Shannon will join JYP and well maybe she will team up with Somi and Lily Morrow lol. That would be the Avengers team!

I can tell she lost her color after being in MBK...and she knows it too. You can see it in her eyes that she doesn't know what to do at this point. It's all or nothing for her. Honestly, I hope she leaves and goes into a smaller, secure and creative company that allows to bring back her inner colors and passion. She has such a gift at only 18 years old.

she was amazing...I loved her ever since I saw her in Star King...her voice in this perf was great, but i think she did lack in conveying the emotions of the song to her audience. There are singers that have a great technique especially in belting out high notes, but lack the capability to allow the audience to feel and understand the song. I think she's still struggling to find out how to do that now unlike when she first performed Daybreak Rain (I love that song ♥) I can relate to her in a way. When I sing I become too conscious of my technique (ie. breathing, pitch, and even facial expression) that I tend to forget what singing is all about. It's about telling a story through your song. She's still young and has great potential. I hope she finds a good coach to help her improve more :)

I think that listening to the audio independently of the video and without all these comments about "singing like a machine" nobody would have even mentioned it. I'm not a fan of Shannon, but I don't think that her singing is mechanical. I also don't think that SIXTEEN is a reliable reference for how accurate or founded JYP's criticism is. He's not a vocal coach, he's a producer and a CEO. He has a public image that he's been trying to cultivate for a long time. One where he is seen as exacting, even harsh at times, but ultimately knows what's best and can always fix a person's flaws with a few 'deep' sentences. I think that he doesn't care about Shannon at all. He simply wants to further this image, so he picks apart a performance which otherwise would have been pretty quality. Shannon just wasn't doing well as a solo artist. I saw her on many variety shows. She had her chance to make an appeal for herself, but just didn't get popular. That's another thing. You'll get your opportunities in the beginning but if you don't become popular, the broadcasting companies won't invite you back to their shows. Shannon did a great job of singing this song. Whenever I hear one of the judges's start talking about singing from the heart, I think of the quote from the American Comedian George Burns, who said something to the effect of "The secret of being a successful actor is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made." I think maybe if at times she had sung the song less strongly and shown more vulnerability at times, her singing would have been viewed as more sincere.

MidnightAshess Maybe you should actually listen to her lol. Her voice is consistently well placed and often resonant. The only problem here is the repeated belting on the "aye" vowel, but other than that she did fine. In her Breath performance(on Kpopstar) she was able to maintain resonance while phrasing D5s and Eb5s without any trouble. Shannon's biggest issue is that she doesn't pick the best songs for her, but I guess her choice is getting better.

I agree to what JYP told Shanon because in the first place the reason she applied was to get criticized(you'll know if you watch the whole episode). If JYP didn't told her anything then I think that she will regret going to kpop star. That's why she cried when JYP mentioned her problem because it is exactly her concerns. -P.S. I don't understand why mention Twice. Shanon is a solo artist. Why not mention JYP's solo artist like Baek A-Yeon. Idol groups and solo artists are different anyway.

Aldous Kim well actually YG also does that kind of thing like when they did win and also mix&match. They also needed a media boost, sixteen also was because they already had their group but it disbanned bcs 2 of them left. But we need to admit that the two companies are guaranteed to start with a big fanbase if they debut a new group.

RealJudyi JYP is an entertainment company, his idols don't need to be the best, vocally. They need to be charming and alluring so they can bring in audience and fans. They're idols, not artists. (although some idols are artists, like Zico) Twice can't really sing but JYP has succeeded, seeing as they're so popular. He has good artists like 15& but it sucks that they're not popular and that's just how entertainment rolls :-(

+Shaz Green kpop star let already debuted singers and trainee of other company to be able to apply this time because this is going to be last season of kpop star and also called "kpop star the last chance". purpose is thay because many idol group or singers debut but not get best attention. also, many trainees work hard waiting their chance to debut.. (if they get positive reaction from this, they will get debuted faster). Plus, the tv program called 'produce101' with tons of trainees was hit. so it is good chance for the kpop star itself to gain more attention from viewer as last season had lower view. It is win win reasons.

+Shaz Green Not all the cases but usually it is not easy for trainees to move their company because the companies put their money to train them. so because of that groups debuted from not top 3 company get their money much later than their debut in order to pay back the cost for train. there is a case that they need to 'pay' to move as there is contract for trainees too. but especially I dont think company that has shannon (?) or other applicants(havent watched this yet) will let her or he go easily if they get attention by this program. they will try to not let them go. so maybe you should pray yg or jyp to find them very attractive but they fail the show. ;p Additionally, cost for moving their company for 'already debuted aritist' with contract is much expensive. for example, Jay park had to pay 2 hundred bilion to get loco out of previous company and before his first single at aomg, he was not even famous or had any hitted song...

It's really a shame that MBK Entertainment doesn't promote their artists good enough. She debuted back in 2014 for "Daybreak rain" then in 2015 she had a comeback for "Why why". Ever since then she has been mia for awhile. Her talent is amazing, her singing is truly nothing to be played with. I think she will make it really far in kpopstar6 and I wish her all the luck in the world. I hope she makes it and I hope jyp takes her in bc she needs to be recognized and appreciated more. Yg is good too, but they're known for leaving their artists in the dungeon too long. They all deserve better, she deserves better. In my opinion, she should just stay a soloist, bc she's too good to be in a group. Besides her dream is to be a soloist singer. I love you so much Shannon,fighting! 💪❤

I think a lot of people DON'T understand what JYP said to her or why Shannon went there in the first place. She knows this problem... singing wasn't a joy for her anymore because her company/teachers keep telling her to be PERFECT, she couldn't take a break and enjoy herself singing. JYP is impressed, but even more so worried for her since she knew this and it's suffering from it. He gave her advice and a No, because he wants to see what can change for her in a week. Stop mentioning TWICE, and making JYP look bad, that just brings hate againts Shannon and it is unfair.

Subarashi Cat he said she sings like a machine. I agree, she is a good singer but I'm not getting the same feeling from her as I did when that little girl who sang Adele's song. She's missing the artistry part in her singing which is different from being able to do vocal flairs. A good example of this is Janis Ian's "at seventeen", she doesn't use a bunch of techniques but you can feel the pain in every word she sings.

Agree, people get so up-in-arms about what JYP said to her calling him a hater and bashing his groups, but in reality he was just telling her because he cares. He knows she's a great singer and he wants to see her do well, that's why he told her that. I would be the first person to take Shannon's side as a huge fan of hers, but in this case JYP was right, and a lot of what he said was the truth. Hopefully she'll work on it and come back utilizing his advice instead of just dismissing it like it's nothing. As a side note: I think she should branch out from Ariana Grande songs, I don't feel like her voice really fits them all that well and makes her kind of strain when singing.
