So, having over 40 years of DIY experience, let me just suggest that now is an awesome time to make a house notebook. In it record what you did, before and after pictures are good and can help you document pipes, electrical etc., and any notes or quirks along the way. Because trust me, over time you will not remember. Then if you years later go to redo an area, you can refer. Or, if you need to find an electrical line, like in your floor, you'll know. We now do this for inside and out. Also in our last home, we left that book for the new owner and he was so grateful. Just my opinion.

"Send me your linens" had my wife perking up, until I reminded her that "small PO box in the USA" probably isn't the most realistic or economic destination for 7+ kilos of terrycloth towels from Germany. They mysteriously stopped working at my MIL's home, and inexplicably recovered after appearing in our no-laundry-softener household during our last few moves and brief episodes in-between washers. Magical towels, these. Personally, I'm terrified to get rid of them in case more appear before we source some decent ones in 1-2 consistent sizes and colors.

If the lamp is similar to the one I vaguely remember from childhood, the glass was a frosted light greenish color like that glass they make with recycled bottles that’s almost clear but has a greenish cast. The one I remember was cut in a rounded pie wedge shape so it spread out above the lady like she was holding a giant fan 🪭

You might consider using Lucite rather than glass. It can be easily cut to shape and polished to a smooth finish. It's also safer, and comes in many colors to match your decor.

Awesome episode! 🎉 The art deco lamp that you have, the piece of glass that the lady holds, was usually a 'fan shaped' piece of stained glass and the lamp globe back lit the glass fan shape. You could have a piece of stained glass made in the colors of your decor to match your aesthetic of your house, or room where you will be displaying the lamp. It's truly gorgeous! Lampshades! I barely sew, so when I bought an antique lamp with a tattered orange silk shade, I had to invent a way to recover it (pre-internet). I found Tacky brand glue and used it to tightly wind bias tape around all of the wires in my shade. Let that dry a few weeks. Then I took a paper grocery bag and made a pattern for each of the different shaped panels in my lampshade. I went to the fabric store and bought a bridal fabric in an off white with a subtle pattern that I liked and made panels for each section. Starting at one rib, I Tacky glued a panel to the ribs on all four sides and moved around the lamp, gluing each main panel until I got to the last one. I let it dry a few days before I glued the last panel to the starting side of the first panel. For the round top, I first glued a stiffer fabric to the top and bottom ribs and let it dry. My error was in choosing a less fine weave fabric for this step. Once I glued the bridal fabric over it, and turned on the light, I could see the rougher weave coming through underneath the bridal fabric. Lastly, I glued a row of rickrack over each rib, and a fringe on the bottom. I got many compliments on it over the years. Considering the sewing skills I did not possess to do a fine fabric shade, I found this method to be a fast and easy alternative. It is still intact, 32 years later. I saved at least $100 over buying a new shade.

I found the lamp! Yours is either a recast from the 1970s and vintage in its own right, or an original casting from the Frankart-Nuart molds made in the 1930’s. It’s titled Winged Victory, and originally had a leaded stained glass fan as the shade. 2:50

I have a vintage sewing box. Even though I have a huge sewing/craft room, mine holds all my knitting and crotchet needles and gages that I am not currently using. And it functions as a small side table in my living room. The slim design works well in my living room.

It’s all looking so much better. I admit to wondering what was wrong with the chair but figured you had a good reason to send it out. And you did! So it might sit around until the moment where I can dedicate some time and energy, but then once I start, often I see it through to the end (exceptions being long sewing or knitting projects that are so complicated that they take long enough that they bypass the knitting "season" because I only knit in winter)

Shannon, I thought I'd impart some experience in covering shades. Make sure you wrap all parts of metal frame with cotton bias tape otherwise the metal will burn through your fabric. I'm having that problem with some of my shades I didn't do that. Maybe a good rust blocker paint might do the trick. Would be simpler

When my Pom started itching and chewing his paws, I gave him fish oil and it helped tremendously. We also changed his food to non-chicken proteins, as many dogs have an allergy. After a while we could give dehydrated chicken breast for snacks and he was ok. LOVED that lampshade frame with the very wide flare at the bottom and smaller flare on the top🥰🥰

Thinking about the space from the basement to the attic: In the far future, there is a possibility of using that space for a masonry mass heater, which would heat your whole house. I had vintage very water stained lamp shades that I used very pretty cable knit sweaters over and they turned out beautifully. They had a scallop on the bottom so I just cut off the top right below the armpit areas and put them on the shades and hand sewed the top over the edge of the shade. worked like a charm. love the deco lamp, a fan shape would be beautiful.

But being realistic about your time, skills, energy and motivation (and perhaps also storage space) is important. I'm still working on that. I have entirely too many hobbies but I'm not giving up any of them. But I'm at least pretty good about my kitchen rule, if anything new comes in, something has to go out.

For the lamp I would just add a bulb and buy one of those shades that clip onto the bulb. Then you can use it and search in antique malls and stuff for a glass shade. Those wooden "feet" are actually curtain finials. You get a wooden pole and screw them into the ends.

It would make a very nice little sewing table I've used them many times that the right height. Measuring tapes Harbor Freight used to have them for a buck a piece I have 15 million of them and finally used an Old Spice rack I set some of them inside of it and some can be clipped on the outside that is how I organized all of my measure tapes when they're all connected together.

Crazy idea! if you look online for stained glass window hangings or sun catcher, you should be able to find one that is thin enough to fit into that art nouveau lamp , AND stained glass is what was probably in there to begin with. Anyway as always ONLY an idea. I believe that is a Finial or topper rather than feet, but no reason you can't use it as feet if you wanted to! Yes Reading Rainbow! my kids loved it and STNG. LOL Confession, I have a collection of lamps (shades stored elsewhere) on one side of my fireplace, that I left there because it looks like weird art to me, rather than my weird collection of lamps. When I was a young girl my brothers bought be that exact same sewing box for Christmas one year. At some point along my life’s journey, it was donated or given away. I regret it to this day. I hope you can fix it and love it for a long long time!

If I recall correctly from growing up in Oregon, only postal workers are allowed to put anything in a mail box / PO Box. Couriers are not allowed to deliver to them. I live in Canada now and our small town only has P.O. Box delivery unless you live on a rural route. Couriers make it clear they cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes. I think P.O. Boxes for personal use is not as common, generally speaking, in the US. It took years for me to convince the IRS that they can't send mail to my house. On the flip side, don't get me started on the Amazon debacle when they decided briefly to only ship to mailing addresses meaning lots of Amazon packages got sent back by Canada Post because there were no P.O Box addresses on them.

I believe that UPS or FedEx has to deliver to a central postal hub, not a town post office?... I may be wrong. I have a PO box because my house is too close to the post office for them to deliver my mail, so they issued me a PO box free of charge. Sometimes I will get a package delivered that was UPS, but it was delivered to the post office in another state and then the post office sent it along. Super slow and weird.😂

I see an open fan or scallop shape as the piece of glass in the lamp. Diffused for sure - creamy warm white to potentially a yellow/orange tone. Lovely size.

The vapor barrier is a great idea - but I'd be concerned about that moisture now building up inside that inssulated cavity and creating wood rot and mold. I dont know how to fix it though....I guess blocking off the basement area feeding to it, but would be interested in what an expert has to share. Wishing you luck!

Blocking off the basement is 100% the way to go, and on the list to be sure! Unfortunately doing that properly and completely requires knocking out the chimney, so... work in progress!

Just catching up your posts and caught this one. The art deco lamp should hold a stained glass panelled fan. I have two lamps the same which I bought when doing a stained glass course about 20 years ago. They are not old but are made to look like they are. They are still lovely though. I made a fan in bronze and golds and one in pink and green for my mother.

I’ve seen little lamps like that with a fan shaped cut glass on the front. The cut part was done in an art deco style. It was lovely.🤗❤️🐝

That beautiful lamp you got from your viewer would have had a stained glass shade, probably in the shape of a fan, and recovering one of your many lampshades could you do one to match the screen your renovating?, a patchwork shade would look lovely Shannon, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧

that little lamp you are looking for a suggestion on what shape shade to put on it?? i would go with either a round shade or horseshoe shape shade. one that the edges will meet up with the middle point of the deco sticking out. the largest size i would go with is just past the farthest point on the deco. what would be even more awesome for a shade would be if it was a tiffany style one. you can make one easy. all you have to do is get a clear glass shade then buy the liquid glass and brass and make the colored Tiffney style shade the way you want it to look. it is super easy to do by using a sharpie to draw the pattern first then use the liquid brass and draw the lines in and color them in. good luck! it is a cute piece and would look awesome with tiffney style shade

An easy way to tell what it is for. If the end is flat it is a foot. If the end is pointed or round it is a finial. Of course nothing stops you from using either for either.
