@exJacktar
@exJacktar Жыл бұрын
@anajinn l can swim. Some guys didn't when they joined. As was explained to me that's what boats were for. You see, l grew up in the prairies, and it's common to know how to swim, but guys who grew up on the cast here frequently didn't learn. But during recruit training everyone learned how to swim if they didn't already. Knots, yes, was taught but as I didn't used that skill regularly, I'm rather rusty as my trade didn't need a great deal of rope work.

Its a video capture thing and common at concerts and performances with mics. Only reason you catch on-stage audio so well is because of audio feed and speakers while audience audio is not picked up as well, so it translates to what sounds like a poor response when it's very much the opposite.

wow! I didn't know! But the old Norse viking population knew that plants (cabbage, angelica, and leek) could prevent the disease scurvy. These plants were cultivated in kitchen gardens. The theft of these plants was punished according to old Norwegian laws. The old Norwegian name for scurvy, skyrbjugr, was first used in the saga about Thorstein the White in 1000

@@ErikSundheim I would assume I am related to the German part of the family. We don't know much about the geology on my father's side of the family, but we have always known the Lehmkuhles to be Germans. I knew the name was North German, I had no idea there were Norwegian Lehmkuhls. As I said, I don't know much about my father's side, what I do know is confusing. North Germans are by and prominent Protestants, but the Lehmkuhles I am directly descended from are Catholic, which led me to believe the name was south-German till I learned otherwise. It is sort of funny really, I have all of these Protestant ansestors in a branch of my family except my maternal grandmother's (Slovak) and I wound up a card-carrying Catholic. But like I say, we don't know much about my dad's side of the family. Maybe I am Norwegian on that side, I doubt it, I don't know when my part of the family came over to the United States, but I don't think we would have just forgotten where we came from like that.

Its a Norwegian version of Santy Ana: Here is the text, by google translate (Written in sailor English)! In Amsterdam in the Netherlands was a good and old brig Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Worn was its hull, and worn was its rig Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! We were going out of Amsterdam with ballast out of the ground Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! And sail home to Fredrikstad and load off planed boards Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! And when we got to the sea, boy, I'm telling you the truth Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! The skipper drank more liquor than the ship drew water Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! We had no compass, no steering wheel either Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! A but sailed after the pull of an old floss hat Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! It was a Sunday morning, we were urged out to baut Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Oh the chef came from the room, screaming that the keel pig was embarrassed Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! Well, I can no longer sing, for no more he knows Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Ha jo! The chef burned his ass because the gun was too hot Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! --From: I Amsterdam i Holland lå en god og gammal brigg Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Forsliten var dens skrog, og forsliten var dens rigg Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! Vi skulle ut fra Amsterdam med ballast utav jord Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Og seile hjem te Fredrikstad og last av høvla bord Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! Og da vi kom i sjøen, gutt, jeg sier deg for sant Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Drakk skipper'n mere brennevin, enn skuta hu trakk vann Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! Vi hadde inga kompass, ei heller ingen ratt Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! A men seilte etter pullen av en gammal flossehatt Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! Det var en søndag morgen, vi ble purra ut til baut Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Oh kokken kom fra rommet, skreik at kjølsvinet flaut Heave away, my boys, for Mexico! Nå kan jæ inte synga mer, for inte mer han veit Heave Away! Heave Away! Santy Ana! Ha jo! Yes he is very professional indeed! And I definitely heard of how excellent Norway is in Marine Trade! But why is he singing a native British shanty? Why are the Norwegian sailors are singing a British shanty too? is there a common history between British sailors and Norwegians and so Norwegians have learned the shanties ?
