The 10 things Jake suggests to thrive: 1. Learn 5 natural skills 2. Know the 10 foods and medicines in your areas (wild) 3. Put away 2 years worth of food 4. Build your own shelter 5. Harvest your rainwater 6. Get your own electricity 7. Get buff and flexible for longevity 8. Travel to 5 different countries for a long period of time; each 9. Don’t have any debt, all debt is bad 10. Walk, run, bike, skateboard, or sail for travel And if you don’t know how - learn!

Julie Chlarson: used to live in Green Valley, south of Tucson. Now in Phoenix, close to Glendale. I am 74 years old. I have taught people crafts, ceramics, sewing, and quilting. I also have taught people how to do genealogy. I was a university professor of management, recreation therapy and addiction. I can cook from scratch, baking, dehydrating, doing ferments. I have hardened since I was about 10. I have repaired and refurbished my houses, including putting in new flooring, sanding and varnishing hardwood floors. Many other things. These days I am not able to finance my own home. I ended up without a place to live. Now I am in a senior apt complex, but there are no patios only inside hallways. I am planning to grow some edible plants inside my apt. Glad to see you back on KZbin. I saw a little of your tropical property. Nice to see you and Nicole are doing so well and congratulations on your beautiful son Fox

100% agree. You just described my exact journey and current mindset. I'm 40k from paying off my 50 acre mt top property with spring. Its been a 15 year journey of consistent payments but the smartest investment i have ever made. Id also add that if you have ever felt baby fever that you don't ignore it. Listen to your instincts/heart. I thought for a few years that id command my property all alone. Now my little boy and girl have come along so perfectly in the last 3 years and now they have a fine property to inherit and they will never fear homelessness. I aim to help them both have their own cabin/house before they're 21, so they can truly be free to enjoy the best years of their lives unencumbered.

Man! I'm feeling your wisdom, I understand where you are coming from. I followed all the conventional ideas on how to make a way through life. I got a car to establish credit to buy a house. I bought a house to establish credit to buy a rental property. I completed my education with a ton of debt. 2008 happened and all of my hard work to build "success" collapsed. I seriously rethought my life and got myself on the same wavelength you are on I'm still working to get myself on my own and away from debt and dependence on the system. Best of luck on your journey!

As a family with many interests, we have collectively gone to you tube many times for information . It has been incredibly helpful, couldn't imagine not having you tube for this specific reason. When the housing crash debacle happened in 2008, we began working towards a mostly debt free life. It didn't take long & it is less stressful for sure. Good used vehicles still need maintenance & AAA does come in handy if needed. Living in the north can be particularly hard on any vehicle as salt is used on most roads come winter, best to minimize driving on stormy days to get around that if one is able. Working from home has been a bonus for that. As far as a small mortgage, I get what your friend is saying. We chose to pay off what little we owed. We use one credit card for online purchases, but pay any balance owed. Simpler is better & there are many ways to eliminate things from your life you once thought you needed. It's FREEING!

I've been watching your videos and subscribing for a number of years I bought a Chinese wax wood staff from you 2 years ago with the intent of the morning the bo staff. Shortly after I was diagnosed with cancer and been battling it ever since. I'm still going through many doctors visits and hospital visits but I am bound to tournament to teach myself the bo staff. I'm 52 and have always enjoyed martial arts but my parents thought it was always a waste of time so I never got to learn it. A lot of the things you mentioned will be hard for me because I don't have the strength I had 2 years ago. But I will definitely teach myself that Joe and bo staff and I recently even though I'm a devout Christian been picking up books on Buddhism as well. I have a literally almost died four times in the past year and there's something about being that close to death that makes you question things and I think Buddhism we'll bring a calmness and with the little time I have left here thank you for making such good videos

I watch another channel of Wing Chung and I would pretty much never be able to get to meet them or you in person. Learning Kung fu in a gym is very expensive. Though it may be very much worth it some people can't afford it. Plus who can you trust to teach you the right way, the best way. So I m glad to see you back. I hope you continue.

If the door, the window and the dogy door are cloused, then wait. As soon one of them opens up again, don't miss the chance ! The real human life is in the nature in, the woods. Living in the city is like being a batery. Bateries are the energy source for biger apparates or machines. When they are used they just being throwing away. Me and my family are waiting for a door to open up again. Even if it is the dogy door. We 'll take it.

When i look at Jake I see an earlier version of myself, and on many levels you can't knock the guy, I have a lot of respect for him. Yet my road through Toaism met with the real world as it unfolds for humanity as a whole and not me the individual . Whether we all like it or not there is an 'objective' reality that cannot be reduced to psychologisms or moral idealism. They are the laws of capital, and they dictate to all, and they are as true as the laws of physics. We are living them now despite how some of us as creative individuals can offset their effect on their personal lives. Today as I write these very words the Planet itself is threatened with the very real possibility of a nuclear war and irreversible climate change . A life ending phenomena care of a social system that does not produce neither for need be it creative or for survival , but for 'a thing' called profit, 'a thing' called the stock market. Apologies for the reality check folks, but it's the end of the road for the profit system. Its done, finished . Yet in its death throes it will take us 'al' this time round if we don't get our act together and replace it what resolves the inherent contradictions that drives it . International Socialism is not ''optional'' it is a necessity , and without it our kids will see the worse of life and not the best of it , regardless of all noble personal intentions and strivings.

The "System" is not against anyone. Who among us thinks that the system was better 25,50,75, etc years ago? Never has humanity had opportunities to live as easy and as comfortable as we do now.

you and dan best of both worlds as a revision needs to be done each year i think and you should and might are going to start inventing tools and creating your own martial arts if anything for fun. it runs in your soul. A loner. A story or a question. ill put this one together fast.

Awesome video. Been awhile since I watched your channel. Just started to get into Tai Chi by David Dorian. I always liked a simple life style too. Think the system has ruined it for us. Looking at other countries like the Philippines really reminds me of the 80's. Simple houses. Kids and people on the street. Martial arts and daily life essentials etc are so expensive now. Prob why I train on my own even if it's KZbin. Have to say so many interesting martial arts hard to stick with one but never thought I would try Tai Chi or qigong 😂
