mdmr.osiris I think he might use it because most people start their martial arts training with Japanese martial arts and are able to understand the vocabularity he uses. It took me 30 seconds to Google a list of the Chinese vocabularity for Wushu (Kung fu.) He's able to use the proper terminology wether or not he knows it, he just chooses not to. These martial arts tutorials and fighting demos you find on KZbin are not ment to give people a proper training for free. They are ment to get people intrested in the arts, which is easier if people know what the heck he is talking about.

God damn this is bad kung fu. As a guy that moved to Hong Kong for over 7 years to study and also cross-study with other martial arts (including MMA) to learn to apply the techniques in a modern setting. Definitely lots of fundamentals missing. That being said, Jake Mace is still in better shape than most traditionalists out there - he trains almost everyday and does have some pretty decent techniques up his sleeve from different disciplines, which is more realistic than what people train from traditional styles with authentic lineages. Also, he's building a community which is important for having a sense of belonging. Keep up the great work, Jake and also keep researching and fill in some of the smaller details by learning with credible teachers to support your journey. All the best!

@brentcruz87794 жыл бұрын
@Jhobs 69 Aight, let me get something straight. Kung Fu is definitely real, it is just practiced wrong nowadays. Behind every form, there is a function and it tends to be that there is multiple. Kung Fu is no different from Karate and Taekwondo. It is just that Kung Fu is so commercialized that the common connotation of Kung Fu and actual Kung Fu eventually merged.

This worry about Kung-Fu "Dying" reminds me of when Kung-Fu first came to N.America, Sensei Ed Parker seemed worried Karate students would drop their art for the "flashiness" of Kung-Fu. Kung-Fu won't die because of MMA; its up to the teachers and Grandmasters to adapt their art for modern times. Keep in mind, UFC rules are some what biased towards JiuJitsu and grappling. In the streets, there are no rules stopping your opponent from finger-jabbing you in the eyes, or elbowing you in the back of the head or twisting your neck when you attempt that "diving tackle" maneuver.

I can see the validity in the training. Irrespective of the origins of this style: it has potential!
@rainynight027 жыл бұрын
mrphotoguy1 Every style was "just made up" by someone at some point. I'm pursuing Ying Jow Pai, Eagle Claw Kung Fu. It was created by a General who refined it and taught it to his soldiers. From him it was passed on. Over the years some aspects may have been lost, while other parts may have been modified. Same as any other style. If someone today has developed their own style, then I don't see how they could be any more "fake" than any of the originators of any other style of martial art. It's simply new. ~ Now, if by "fake" you mean he is lying about where his style came from, or he claims it is good self-defense when it is untested, or worse, proven ineffective. Or if he claims this is some traditional art when really it is his own style inspired by traditional, or what have you. Then I would agree with you.

It's because the people making the harsh comments are not kids. They're guys who actually study a real martial art and can see his glaring mistakes. I have a green belt in Kung Fu and three stripes in Tai Chi, including Xing-yi and Bagua, and even so I can see he's just showing off. He also lies and makes things up and mispronounces. It's fine to make a vid on Bo spinning,, but don't call it a kata. Go look at some of his other videos. Read the comments there! Also Google "McDojo."

If Bruce Lee was alive Jake Mace would kick his ass so bad. Here is how he would do it. Mace would lure him into his secret life longevity garden to make believe he was teaching him about vegan gardening..then when Bruce wasn't looking he would summon his killer tortoise to bite Bruce in his balls and infect him with the dirty mouth bacteria and Bruce would die two days later. Mace would bring him back to life with one of his vegan juices thus gaining huge respect in the Asian martial arts community right back to the Shaolin Temple. He would be a hero in china were they would ask him to stay for the remainder of his life and teach vegan gardening. He would have to leave his mistress salsa partner but it would be all worth it as his name would be gold through out China.

Spinning the staff adds to the psychological factor of fighting...some of you guys are too shallow to realize that there is more to fighting than just a physical brawl...spinning the staff also adds to overall familiarisation of the weapons capabilities and weight-swing ratios.....etc etc etc....training...which is why it's training....
@Heimdal0016 жыл бұрын
Kung Fu staff has plenty of spinning. They are actually strikes, first and foremost, combined fluidly enough that it is a spinning motion at speed. This accomplishes everything you've brought up, in addition to maintaining physical stability and power if contact is made during spinning. But Jake doesn't train those spins. He trains the ones up in the video here. Jake's are literally for spinning a flag, not training in a weapon.
