This has to be the most watchable manufacturer's assembly video I've ever watched. I particularly enjoyed Winston casually yeeting the boxes over his shoulder.

Please update the video to mention you need to remove the shipping screw from the Z axis mounting plate before mounting, and that the new machines do not come with the plastic strips under the T slot extrusions now.

Just want to confirm that I'll need to cut the belts after tensioning? Seems like I have some more room in the rear to leave some slack, but not the 8" or so I have left over after tensioning...

Just in case anyone cares... the Bulkman3D "Queen Bee Pro" mechanical kit does come with lineal rails and lead screws for like only $700. Your Shapeoko electronics and everything can bolt right up to it. bulkman3d.com/product/queenbee-pro-cnc-machine-mechanical-kit-upgrade-kit

For the this type of machine, belt driven is perfectly acceptable. Benefits of a such robust belt, overweight the cons by a lot.

Winston, will you guys be offering a version with 2 rails on each side of the y-axis in the future? I see the X-Axis has doubled-up rails which should give a vast improvement in stability/rigidity. Would love to have that option on Y-Axis as well - maybe in combination with a beefier Gantryplate as well - double the thickness - should also vastly improve oberall stability of the machine even further! Could you please elaborste on the design choice to have the frame and the rails put on stand-offs? would it not be more rigid via direct connection of milled surfaces?
@beefchicken
@beefchicken 3 жыл бұрын
Look at it this way: the X axis has 2 rails, and the Y axis has two rails. The Y axis rails are just spaced out further than the X axis rails.

I followed all the steps and all seemed well until the machine moved forward toward the bit setter …when I attempted to position the router over the bit setter the x y and z movements were so tiny that it would take hours to get it over the bit setter . Could some wires be crossed ?

@WinstonMakes

I'm not using any currently, but it wouldn't hurt for some of the more permanent attachment interfaces. Just don't use it on things you'll need to loosen later, like the spindle mount.
@henmich
@henmich 3 жыл бұрын
Use Vibratite VC3.. It does all the vibration fixes and leaves the fastener to be loosened when needed. It's expensive, but trust me, it's worth it.

I just received my machine. Go Bahamas! Perhaps you may want to coloraturas code the connecting points. I noticed that both sides of the connectors are not marked. Additionally, wasn't sure which drag chain to install on the x and z axis. You may want to specify what goes where. Nice touch with the video. Definitely better than a difficult manual.

Just got mine assembled and am going through the initialization setup. When I do the steps to load defaults for travel dimensions around 15:10, the defaults it loads are different than the ones shown here, 870, 850, 95, vs the 855, 850, 100 shown on your screen. Just curious which one is correct? Thanks for the video by the way assembly was pretty easy with it.

My x cable came backwards and I had to flip the end clips to install it properly. Also the z bracket that holds the x and y drag chains is machined for the left side of the x bracket and not the right so the bracket doesn’t fit properly. Looks like mounting it wrong might not interfere with anything but won’t know until I get the rest built and running. There’s a chance it crashes into the back right wall.

Overall this was a good video but keep in mind for a newbie it does skip over some steps that you have to figure out on your own. Not a huge deal though. We figured everything out. It would have been awesome if the plastic strips that are nestled in the machine channels wouldn’t have been missing so we could have finished he build.

both x and y limit switches were preinstalled incorrectly. my machine couldn't recognize them and just kept smashing into the walls over and over. had to remove them and dremel out the plastic to be able to get the switches set to a usable condition. have seen others post about this and wanted to let more people know.

Is this compatible with the HDZ? Or is there an expansion pack to Pro? I have a base Shapeoko I’ve upgraded substantially including the HDZ but I’d love to expand and get all the features of the Pro.
@carbide3d
@carbide3d 4 жыл бұрын
There is no upgrade path to the Pro because almost every part is different. We are looking into bringing certain aspects of the Pro to regular Shapeokos, like the threaded table, but don't have a timeline for it. HDZ is not currently supported on the Pro, we're also looking into that for the future.

Impressive machine; however, don't forget about your customers. I am eagerly awaiting a BitSetter that I ordered last Tuesday (12/1). For context, I placed two orders prior using your Black Friday promo, of which you shipped both promptly (w/in a day). However, you have yet to fulfill the BitSetter order I placed two days later. I reached out via e-mail but didn't receive a reply. Again, incredible machines and excellent company, however, please keep in mind that hobbyists like me really appreciate our weekends.

its well out of my price range, i dont think its a hobby machine any more which is a shame as thats where its grew from but you have to admit that its a tidy well designed machine. I think it should at least have lead screws at this price point
@langrock74
@langrock74 4 жыл бұрын
Is a lead screw really a sign for a high-quality machine? After all, those 3018 $200 letter-size CNCs use lead screws, so I’m not so sure that this is the make or break. I’m sure they tested their machines for slippage under load and found belts to be just fine. After all, your car has a timing belt that keeps your cylinders from self destructing;-) If it’s good enough for a car, it’s good enough for a prosumer tool.
@martyn1678
@martyn1678 4 жыл бұрын
@@langrock74 yes it is a sign of quality, at this price point the least they could do is lead screws but probably should have used ball screws, even a £200 3018 has lead screws. Not like this is a cheap machine they are asking enough money dont make excuses for them they did it because it was cheaper
@martyn1678
@martyn1678 4 жыл бұрын
@@langrock74 any way its not about signs of quality, its about accuacy lead screws/ ball screws are more accurate that belts thats all. the custumer is paying enough for them to be included . This is being marketed as a pro machine belts are for hobby machines as they are cheaper and stretch. if belts were good enough theyd be used on the z axis as well
