This is a video of me making my local fire department some wooden flags with the thin red line. I used a Shapeoko XXL cnc to make this. I had already designed the flag so if you would like to see me design an imaged from scratch, leave a comment below and I will try to get a video out for you. Thanks for watching.

Have you thought about in the case of only having a upcut bit you use maybe a 1/8 chamfer mill and glide the edges to get rid of the sanding.

New to your channel. I sold my xl end of summer but plan on getting the xxl soon. Also like the talon vids as I own a green one as well. Good info on the tires as I’m doing the search thing. Cant find 31 carnivores anywhere

If your’s is the R then 32’s will fit no problem. The only way you’ll find 31’s is get them from someone that took them off a KRX 1000. Go with 32’s. Basically same weight and it definitely won’t rub on the “R” they rub a little on the “X”

@@PoposWoodworks I found some 31x10.5x15 not carnivore but decent tires , being the talon rims are 9 and 11 wide u think I’ll have any issues with 10.5? Thanks

Nice looking flag. Can you share the file? I also have a method I think you could benefit from to make hanging slots. I use a keyhole bit and in Carbide Create I make a rectangle that is 0.001 tall by however long I want to make the slot. So it plunges, cuts across, offset by 0.001 and returns to start point, and retracts. Just in case you or someone else reading this want to use the CNC to make keyhole slots, the method I described with the square with a height of 0.001 cannot be pocketed as it will only generate a toolpaths where the bit can fit. With such a small height it won’t pocket. Use a contour path as it will cut the line around the square. Or make the square 0.001 higher than the bits width. My 3/8 inch keyhole bit is 0.375 so I’d make my square 0.376 and can use pocket toolpaths. The contour path is a smidge easier as the file will appear to show lines instead of squares which better illustrates it visually for me. I like keyhole slots better because they can’t come off the wall. Hope this helps. Take care and thanks for the video.

Which version of Shapeoko do you have ? I have the S4 XXL. I use Vcarve Pro for design and Carbide Motion to drive the CNC. Do you season the wood for a while or do you carve them green. I get my bits from Garrett Fromme at IDC Woodcraft. He's a great teacher.

9:08 We are the same way, we have an entire wall full of jobs that never left our shop because we notice something wrong with them. People come over and can’t tell what’s wrong with some of them, but I would far rather redo something than have a customer think our work is crap.

This is a great video! I am a cnc noobie, Marine, and fire chief. I made a Marine flag like this, using a video tutorial, and it turned out okay, except one of my stars always ended up on a separate tool path in CC. Even when all were selected. So I went to Etsy like you suggested, but I can’t find the one you used. Have you ran across it again? Or maybe in your purchase history?

Awesome video, I’m about ready to order my shapeoko. I have a couple of questions, when you use the aftermarket Amana bits, do you add them into carbide create, or do you just use the pre set ones? Say you have an Amana 1/4 end mill, would you just select the number 201 in CC? Also what lumber are you using for the flags?
@PoposWoodworks
@PoposWoodworks 3 жыл бұрын
For the common bits like the 1/4”, 1/8”, and the 60/90 degree vee bits that’s exactly what I do. I just use the ones already in CC. I got the Amana 1/16 bit and I had to add that as a new tool. I just went by Amana’s specs when I added it. Far as the wood, my go to is the premium pine from Lowe’s because it has no knots in the lumber. It’s kinda high $40 for a 1x12x8ft board but they seem to work the best for flags.

My flags always cup after I cut them. Is there a way to prevent this?
@PoposWoodworks
@PoposWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
It’s because the carve let’s the moisture release faster to that side and it cups. I usually clear coat mine soon as I’m done to seal them. If they do cup, I use a torch and burn the back of the flag. Burning sucks the moisture out fast and sometimes it will bring them back. Check out warped wood on KZbin. It’s a lot of methods to see which works for you.
