In this video I will show you how I do an Advance Vcarve in Carbide Create without a bitsetter. I purchased a jig from PWNCNC that I use to set up the depth of my bits with a collar which makes doing advance carves easy not having to spend $150 on a bitsetter. The video i s kinda long but I try to put as much information as I can in the video. If you have any questions, leave a comment and I will try my best to answer them for you. Thanks for watching!!

I have BEEN THERE with the dropping the project and it breaking…..AND a crappy cut day where it crashes, so I appreciate this. And PS…my bitsetter has given, me nothing but problems. I bought that system you recommended and am trying it today. So excited! Thanks for this! I gave up on advanced vCarve!

I just bought the SpeedSetter and bit collars from PWNCNC. Thank you for turning me on to this fixture. I think these will be a huge help.

Very nice. Why aren't you using a larger endmill to clear out most of the flat work? I mentioned in another video of yours about spraying clear into your carved wood to seal the mask and wood pores before you paint. Helps tremendously and leaves nice crisp lines. Also, instead of paint, I use Marsh Stencil ink in spray cans and it last very good outdoors with no fade, dries super fast, and does not bleed. Enjoy watching your videos!

For the power cnc thing, that’s a lot of work for a short swap. Seems faster to just re-probe

I think your videos are great, I'm been doing some research on cnc. Been thinking of buying one. Been using a ortur laser just for now. Your videos are very informative!! You basically explain things that people who aren't familiar with cnc can understand. Ty!! My question is that I see a few shapeoko users having problems with the machine crashing. Is that a common thing. Onefinity doesn't seem to have that problem as often?

Depends on who you talk to lol. It’s like ford versus Chevy with folks haha. I have the Shapeoko and the onefinity now and I like the onefinity a lot better. To answer your question YES! I had major crash issues at the start. I rewired my shop to give the machine dedicated circuits to help. The Shapeoko is very sensitive to EMI interference. That is usually what causes the crash. It will still crash every once in a while but nowhere near as bad as it did. The new models may be better mine is a Shapeoko 3XXL. The onefinity since I’ve had it has ran flawlessly and I have not had one single crash with it. Plus that machine is extremely easy to set up and assemble. I was up and running in 30 minutes from opening the box. It is also built like a tank, extremely rigid. I have a video on my channel of both machines doing a comparison if you want to check it out

When you set the z-axis with the probe in the middle of your material should you have "flipped" the probe block upside down so that it does not include the part of the probe that hangs over the edge of your material when using it to set the X and Y-axis at the corner of the material? (I'm not sure if I explained my question very well.)

On the Shapeoko no, theirs is set to work right side up. With my onefinity I do flip the probe upside down

Love the video so much I bought the collars. Got my collars in the mail and they are so tight I cant get my bit to slide through them. I even took the holding screw totally out. Still can't get my 1/4 inch shank to go through. I tried to check the website for something I was missing regarding install, but there wasn't anything there. Any suggestions on how to get the collars on? I emailed the company but didn't hear back. Thanks for the great videos, keep them coming.

I’ve ordered 2 sets and haven’t had an issue. May try to clean the inside of the collar to make sure it doesn’t have that packing junk in there restricting it. Other than that they may have sent the wrong size. They usually have a good customer support, I’d try reaching out to them again.

Getting close to doing my first Advanced VCarve cuts on my own designs. Thanks much for the reference for the collar set jig and collars - ordered and on the way. Exactly what I needed. Your flag looks great! I noticed what looks like some very minor bleed of the black paint on edges of some stars, letters, etc. You know a lot more than me, but I'm not sure if that is bleed under the Oramask, under the clear coat, or within the wood fibers that have been opened up by the carving. Could that be prevented by spraying another coat of clear before spraying the black paint? Thanks for the great demonstration and information. Happy Carving! :-)
@PoposWoodworks
@PoposWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can, that was my issue. I usually do 2-3 coats of poly but was trying to rush and only did 1 coat on this one. I ended up going back and sanding it to get the bleed out of it.

Awesome job! Do you sand your work after it's cut? What finish do you use?
@PoposWoodworks

I sand before the carve. Then put 2 coats of polycrylic on it. Once it’s carved it’s ready to go.

any reason why you couldnt just use masking tape instead of teh ora mask film?
@PoposWoodworks

Masking tape is thicker and doesn’t carve the edges and fine detail as smooth as oramask.

For this flag I selected the entire design and did an advance v carve. I used a 1/16 bit, then it will stop and let you switch and I used a 60 vbit for the rest.

I went with the Shapeoko do how rigid it is and the controller can be ran without it being hooked to Wifi. Mine is the Shapeoko 3 xxl and it has made me a lot of money on my side hustle. I just bought another CNC machine which is the onefinity journeyman. It’s even more rigid than the Shapeoko. Shapeoko has the newer machines out now also. They are both great machines but I gravitate towards using the onefinity for all my 3D and intricate carves now. KZbin both machines. It’s a bunch of videos on there of both if your thinking about getting into it. I have a buddy that has an X carve and it no where near the quality of the other two. I also have a comparison video on my channel if you want to check it out.

The BitSetter is $120 regular price. $15 each for the SpeedSetter in 1/4 and 1/8 plus $20 for each collar in either size ... let's say I want collars on my 6 most commonly used bits... (6 x $20) + (2 x $15) = $150... I don't see the "not having to spend $150" however I have no disagreement with the convenience of collars.
@PwnCNC
@PwnCNC Жыл бұрын
Sorry... need to be more clear on the product page.. but $20 for the collars is actually for a set of 4 collars. So the math actually works out to just over half a $120 BitSetter... (2x20)+(2x15)=$70
