This is a video of me making a family sign from start to finish. I had planned on doing a quick video but as always, as I got to going I wanted to show as much detail as possible in case it helps someone else out. This design is pretty easy to do. What takes the longest is the wood prep from stain to clear coat. Thanks for watching, if you have any questions shoot me a comment.
Stain was Minwax Mission Oak
Blue FIlm is Oramask
Clear coat is Minwax Polycrylic water based.

Good sir, I watched your video for your very first sign. It was rudimentary but very well made and explained. Watching this video, really made me happy to see how far you've progressed with your woodworking. Thank you for still posting, ignoring the naysayers, and being yourself. Well done!

Wow, that is some serious equipment! Never even heard of that until now. I just started making wood signs, free hand with a router

19:12 I so needed this last night. Had a 17X13in of Cherry, provided by the customer BTW, doing the open book model from vetric. Roughed it out great. In the last 6 minutes of the finish pass, Broke the 1/8in ball nose. Lost zero changing the bit and gauged a big section of the carve. I was able to recover with wood glue and sawdust. Looks like it is part of the grain now, but this little tool would have saved the day for sure. I had to do some sanding so now I will have to add the text to it using the laser.

That’s so awesome and yes please do more in depth videos because those of us that don’t have a CBC are super interested. I guess I am lol. Either way. I think it’s awesome that you take the time to fully explain and show the hole process so thank you so much. I am a new subscriber and I absolutely love your videos so keep it up, don’t change for anyone. Constructive criticism is good but as long as it’s positive. You can’t get too much feedback. God bless and I can’t wait to see what you make next. I love the wood projects for sure.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but every time I use a bit (doesn't matter which one) I always have these burrs that I have to sand out or use a wire brush to get. How are you able to not sand at all when you're finished cutting? You're one of the few woodworking channels I watch. Keep up the good work!

I use “downcut” bits. When I was using the upcut bits I had the same issue with burrs. My bits of choice are the Amana downcut bits. You can find them on Amazon.

This is a wonderful video and your knowledge of finishing is so helpful. Can I ask a question? You first route out the letters using the 1/8 downcut endmill, then you use the v-bit 60 degree to get the fine detail. Now this may sound stupid but here is the question. I will need two toolpaths to complete the letters? And if I do not, how will I know when to stop the cnc and change the bit? I would appreciate any help. Your results are perfect. Thank you.

Which cad software are you using? If it’s carbide create you will have to do advance vcarve and the machine will stop and tell you when to change to the vbit. “Downside is” you can’t reset your “Z” height with the bit change. When I use carbide create cad I added collars to my bits so I knew when I changed them they were the exact same height. If your using vetric vcarve pro which is what I use now and absolutely love it. When you do you vcarve on the letters vcarve pro will automatically separate your tool paths so you can change bits and reset your “Z” height. Hope this makes sense, it’s hard to explain in text. I may have to do a video on this for folks

I use vetric vcarve pro, too. But did not realize that it will separate the toolpaths out automatically. It is amazing what the program can do. I am so grateful for great videos like yours! Thank you very much for the response.

Would you use the pre-stain be used on birch plywood?
@PoposWoodworks
@PoposWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I use Pre-stain on all wood. It goes on clear like water. I do this because some spots in lumber will soak the stain up and you will have to carve deeper to get the stain not to show.
