Listen to Patrick. He's a great teacher and I had the pleasure of being his student for a year. Picking up my own shaper tomorrow, was looking at some refresher videos and he popped up. Wouldn't of had it any other way.

I love spindle moulders used for 50 yrs great machine ,treated with respect . 1.check list of all controls / levers tight. Use all guards available inc a Auto feed if possible or take the time to make guards and push jigs. 2.dont try and take off too much off in one cut. 3.keep cutters sharp & ballanced. 4 Dont be scared of any machine 5. Read as much as you can on spindle moulders/ shapers,As this trade isnt taught in trades any more here in Australia .

Patrick, huge thanks for publishing this series of excellent instructional videos. I've had a shaper (aka 'spindle moulder' here in the UK) for years and have used it very little; probably partly because quality education such as this is a rare find!

Peter, here is another good instructional, from your side of the Atlantic, and older but very high quality info. And the guy is kind of a ringer for Michael Caine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap-Zqod-gqeLa5Y&lc=Ugx1nW7P8g0ovyJZ2n54AaABAg.8w9ey4kRLD897RzfCFE1aV

Ian, reckon you have some good experience under yer belt by now, but here is another instructional, older and British, also very high quality info. And the fellow is a ringer for Michael Caine, cockney accent and all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap-Zqod-gqeLa5Y&lc=Ugx1nW7P8g0ovyJZ2n54AaABAg.8w9ey4kRLD897RzfCFE1aV

Hey Patrick! Did you finally make the video on setting up a stock feeder, or do you plan on making one? It would be really helpful! Thank you! :)

@@PMolzahn That would be great! But still, your videos are super informative, and the only ones on youtube, that really helped me get to know things about shapers, so thank you very much, I really appreciate them!

Makes my decision to go with a shaper than build a router table. Can do more and cheaper.
@leehaelters6182

Routers in tables have their uses, it must be admitted, but no matter how much you are willing to spend on accoutrements, cannot be a substitute for the more massive design and construction of a shaper. Be prepared to pay big for quality, but the safety of using modern tooling has come a long way from the days of loose knife heads. I would counsel putting the money into tooling, if you have to choose. Some of the more massive cutterheads can be had in aluminum, to ease the strain on a lesser machine.

I hate to be that guy, but Jesus Christ, you are the Safty nazi. Now, I do know this is one of the most intimidating machine I’ve ever used, but I’ve never heard of a shaper accident like I have a table saw or even a miter saw accidents. Using a shaper is like “holy shit!” “Is this real” but you quickly find out that it’s pretty safe.
