Thanks. I am digging my Shaper Origin and always looking for places to use it. It is such a handy tool. I recently wanted a large radius on the edges of a couple charcuterie boards. In the past I would of drawn them out and then cut on the band saw but that rarely comes out perfect. I used the Origin to cut a 96" radius on the long sides of the boards and bam, perfect! love it.

Great video Ramon. I'd be interested to see you work this joint out on the Pantorouter.
@ramonartful2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! This could be accomplished quite easily with the Pantorouter but it would require some spacers perhaps. I don’t think both mortises (or tenons) could be cut with one template. Anyway…thanks for the idea for another YT video!
@thwwoodcraft14492 жыл бұрын
@@ramonartful spacers I can manage. But if it were doable with a single template that would be great.
@ramonartful2 жыл бұрын
@@thwwoodcraft1449 Yeah...I don't really see how one could cut twin tenons this small with a single template at the Panorouter since it uses a 2:1 ratio. Let me think about this. Thanks

Great video, how did you set the grid for the mortise when it extends beyond the workstation table since you need three points of reference... Thanks
@ramonartfulАй бұрын
It won’t matter that your actual work piece or components are beyond the Shaper WorkStation. After you scan…you can grid…utilizing two points along the x axis and a third along one y axis. Hope that helps. Thanks

This is awesome, but a bit time-consuming. I recently got a shaper, but I don’t think I’ll be using it this type of joinery. I can do at least 20 joints with my domino in the time it takes to make a single one with the shaper. Very instructional though.
@ramonartful2 ай бұрын
Yeah…I agree. The Shaper Origin is awesome but there are other ways that are much faster. I just wanted to create the twin M&Ts to show its versatility. Anyway, thanks a ton for watching.

Hi Ramon, so i am currently in the middle of making the decision to get the shaper and i am looking for reasons to bite the bullet... While i know it can be used for tenon and mortice joints as you have shown, surely it is just as quick with the domino, which you could also have used in this situation. id really like to see why it is more than just an expensive toy? dont get me wrong, i love my toys, but this thing is expensive. At this moment i just see it as a template maker and sign writer? Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
@ramonartfulАй бұрын
That’s a good and valid question. Although I can’t speak for everyone, since I don’t know their work load or type of tasks they do…I can say that I use mine WAY more often than I thought I would. I just finished a high end project where the focus point is an inlay of the Mesa Police Logo. I could have created this with hand cut marquetry but it had tiny details that needed to be perfect. Just last week I needed a jig with a hole to fit a vacuum hose. With the Shaper Origin I was able to quickly make a slightly tapered hole that fits the hose perfectly and a custom sized slot! Jigs are perfect and quick. Templates…fast. My recent “Table for six”…I used the SO no less than 12 times for all sorts of tasks that would have been nearly impossible without something this accurate. Pivoting hardware, perfect magnet cavities, aluminum bearing blocks, magnetic & leaf shaped keys, the locking mechanism, signature and logo, a template for the Pantorouter, and even engraved instructions on the bottom of the table. It is pricey. But I can easily say that it can pay for itself, even on one job! I made a large barn door a couple years back that had a large inlay of a mountain scene. That job would have easily covered the cost and some. Anyway, I’m not trying to convince anyone…but for me…I cannot see myself without a Shaper Origin! I have access to a promo code (ends Dec 20th) if you’re interested. Cheers.

Another great video Ramon. Sooo if you could only have one is it: Shaper Origin Pantorouter Domino Yeah, I know Festool has 2 of the above and they are sponsors??...only one though Thanks
@ramonartful2 жыл бұрын
Really good question. Everybody’s situation or needs would be different. Personally, I would probably have a Domino…especially since I sell hundreds of Docks! 😬 In fairness, they are completely different machines, each with their own capabilities and strongpoints. If one was building furniture where integral tenons were important, then Pantorouter all the way! Someone looking at building some furniture and small boxes, the Domino is a good fit. Another that may be interested in doing inlay, or cutting odd sized templates…maybe the Shaper Origin is a good choice. I am sponsored by two of the machines…so I do feel blessed for having all three. Thanks a ton.

I like it. Of course, if I had the space I would have stand alone machines. But this machine is solid and accurate both as a jointer and planer.

I would have used loose tenons. That way you aren't depending on a router for the mating edges.
@ramonartful9 ай бұрын
Yeah…that’s a good option. I just wanted to try the capability of this machine. It’s amazing for many things but not my first choose for mortise and tenon’s. Cheers
@davidbedrosian15672 жыл бұрын
Another great Shaper Origin project, Ramon. It's an amazingly accurate machine and I love it every time I use it. I have a question about your grid layout when cutting the tenons. Is there a reason you didn't reference off the back portion of the vertical table of the Workstation rather than using the workpiece? Wouldn't that eliminate any slight error if the workpieces were not exactly the same thickness? Obviously, it worked just fine since your end result is perfect (puhfect 🙂)
@ramonartful2 жыл бұрын
Hey David…good catch! Yes, I should have referenced off the back of the work piece! By the time I thought of that, I had already started…and a couple thou diff in material probably didn’t make much difference here. I had marked my reference corner front/left…and since I’m so used to referencing off of that corner, I never thought about it until I was already cutting. Meh…it worked 😬. Thanks

I get it. I cut mortise n tenons a lot of different ways. I just wanted to show yet another way. Now, some people like technology and enjoy things like this. You’d be surprised as to the vast amount of things that this machine is actually capable of. I know for a fact that many of those tasks one could not do by conventional methods. At least not accurately. Not trying to convince you…to each their own. Happy Holidays!
